Finnish producer Jori Hulkkonen needs little introduction, having been at the heart of the electronic music scene for the best part of two decades, recording for legendary labels such as F Communication & Turbo. 2012 saw the highly respected Mr Hulkkonen team up with one of the hottest labels around, Toronto’s My Favorite Robot Records for the release of his latest long player ‘Negative Time’. Now Jori and the label’s A&R team have compiled a stunning selection of remixes created from some of the highlights of the album.

The package kicks off with ‘Step Aside feat Harri Falck(Phonogenic remix)’, a track that sees fellow Finnish producer Tuomas Salmela AKA Phonogenic take the reins and create a pulsing, acidic version that is simply stunning. Next up MFRR stable mate Fairmont gets to grips with ‘Liquid Hologram feat JiiHoo’, turning in mix which steps further into the acid area with a full blooded 303 workout. The Scandinavian connection is picked up once again as Denmark’s Kasper Bjorke gives his interpretation of ‘Vile Talk feat JiiHoo’ offering up an excellent disco tech fusion that does justice to the original song.

Entering the second half of the package we have Of Norway taking apart ‘Do It feat Olga Kouklaki’ and reimagining it as a stripped and spacious slice of techy house with real electronic soul. The penultimate cut sees up and coming artist Sync Mode remix ‘Technowater’ into a taught, bass driven groove that draws on twisted vocal parts and some sterling drum programming. Finally we get a dub version of the opening mix from Phonogenic bringing a Larry Heard-esque vibe to bear in a very good way.
A superb package of mixes that truly do justice to Jori Hulkkonen’s brilliant originals, enjoy!

Toronto label My Favorite Robot Records started their ‘Stimulus Package’ releases back in 2009 with a view to putting out a series of EPs featuring one off tracks from existing label artists and fresh talent alike. Along the way the series has boasted tracks from the likes of Kenny Glasgow, James Teej, Phonogenic & Michael J Collins to name just a few and has become a regular highlight in the imprint’s release schedule.

Now the MFRR team looks to their eighth chapter and in doing so brings onboard four new acts to join the label’s impressive roster. The EP kicks off with a cut from DJ Glen & Vitor Munhoz called ‘Nadie Tiene que Saber’, which translates as ‘Nobody Has to Know’. The pair are based in Brazil and have recorded for a number of labels such as Kassette Records and Der Hut, this particular track was signed by My Favorite Robot member James Teej whilst on a recent tour of Brazil. Deep, rolling and with a brooding dark feel to it, ‘Nadie Tiene que Saber’ is perfect fit for the Stimulus Package series and with it’s haunting vocal clips and bubblin bassline it is a surefire winner.

Next up we have Vancouver based Stefan Z, owner of the Rhombus label and sometime Resopal Schallware artist. Here he offers up the excellent ‘My Mind’, a spacious and atmospheric house cut with a melancholic electro-esque vocal, quality stuff. The penultimate cut sees London based/Mexican born Betoko team up with Culprit artist Climbers for ‘Timeline’, a heads down techy groove replete with old school synth lines, skittering percussion and swirling FX, sublime. Finally we have Manchester based Jouhl who delivers the superb ‘Vodou’ feat. Gaika, a piece of deep vocal techno with a warm organic feel and a perfect closing piece to this superb package.

My Favorite Robot’s Eighth Stimulus Package has hit the mark once again with a selection of tracks that shine from beginning to end, enjoy!

ZLATO is the latest solo alias of Tomá Ivanov, known for his techno live‑act KOMATON, whose track “In Between” ended up on Cocoon Records’ Compilation J—a fast‑rise moment into the inner circles of Sven Väth’s label. After a creative hiatus and exploring various electronic and live projects under different guises, Tomá has found his way back to the dancefloor.

Under the ZLATO moniker, he channels that experience into grounded, groove‑driven House/Techno—combining tight percussion, dusty low‑end warmth, and textural synths for a forward‑thinking yet soulful sound. His debut single “ktnip” teams up with Austria’s breakout vocal virtuoso Lou Asril. Lou—classically trained, Joe Zawinul Award winner at 17, former #1-charting soul artist, and recent forays into electronic soul, layers emotive vocals over a club‑ready beat that nods to the likes of Kaytranada and Kerri Chandler. It marks the first release off a 2‑track EP and kicks off a larger series of tracks planned over the next months.
