This album is about how we view our past. I dedicated it to my grandmothers to pay homage to my own Southern roots. Every song has a story to tell - literally. Sometime I Miss You (But My Aim is Getting Better) started with a collection of horrible jokes my mother found in my grandfather's personal effects after he passed away. Just a Trickle is a reflection of my own experiences with homelessness and a recent experience with a mentally ill friend who disappeared into the streets. What’s a Little Fire is about me burning down the cabin in the woods I lived in as a child. But just as they did in my grandmothers’ time, I talk about many heavy subjects with the tenderness and lightheartedness still expected of women.

I Wanna Be Your Fool

A Country tune with a Reggae twist, this song considers the lives of homeless women. “I was homeless on and off for a couple of years in my teens. The people I met on the street were abused, mentally ill, victims of sexual assault, violence or medical trauma. That was over 20 years ago and absolutely nothing has changed - people just keep blaming suffering people for their predicament. I wrote a happy melody, so I could sneak in my sadness into the lyrics.”

First single off upcoming album This Hen, Gotta Stop Loving You (But I Can't) is a familiar tale of self-inflicted heartbreak that anyone who has repeatedly failed to keep a long-term relationship together can relate to. This catchy Country ditty, with its 70s harmonies and weeping guitar, is as hopeful as it is resigned to love’s futility. “Initially written about one guy, I realized I was actually writing about the same emotionally unavailable guy I keep dating, over and over again.”

What’s a Little Fire?

This quirky, old-fashioned ballad was inspired by corny punchlines from Zoe’s Grandfather’s personal writings, discovered after his death. Intended to be a commentary on 40 years of his life as a husband, his “zingers” are reinvented here, to serve the lamentations of a put-upon ex-wife. This soulful homage to female artists like Wanda Jackson is delivered with lush mandolin arrangements by Kevin Breit, and horn arrangements by Rebecca Hennessy.
