this is a sound collage with layered vocal tracks and nature recordings. i wrote the song after a workshop on melody led by @dianecluck.

the music is turning you inside out
you’re as good as a sock thrown down, 
half pulled, nudged by cats
you have grown

words emerge from the weave
rubric writ in turmeric
gilt peel of pressed script
you take leave

the leaves fall 
fall 
in your head
the old ways falling down
blue sky up ahead
you might fly

a swell a swell
a balm applied
our bodies bear the weight
sun on horizon moon realizing
we have tried 

to give to give of your core
there’s no more
how it is met with what is offered
the reward

Fool Poem set to Jon Collin's Smoke & Wind Music

I decided to do my own little sound collage with these lyrics that I wrote for some friends in a band. It's the second song I've ever written. I layered the vocals and then created a round. The background sounds are from a construction site. I recorded everything on my phone, but then I joined the construction and vocal tracks in Garageband.

Crouched on the stairwell
I heard the news
That’s when I met my deepest blues
Peeking round the corner of the room
Half woven story on the loom

Shackled Shrouded 
A silky dark cocoon
Stitching slowly through the winter gloom

Breaking settlement
Elevate underserved
Foresee tyranny

All of our structures must come down

a study of sorts. i sang the initial track next to a creek in the blue ridge mountains. my dog whines at some point. i added a few more vocal tracks and some recordings of rainfall.

A sound clip from a Black Women Matter rally where participants were encouraged to bring instruments and noise makers to rise up and show up for the Black Women of our community.
