The Essential Mix is a weekly radio show on BBC Radio 1 currently broadcast between 0:00 - 2:00 AM UK time on Saturday morning. Originally broadcast on 30 October 1993, the Essential Mix features contemporary DJs and music producers of electronic dance music. The show has been presented since its inception by Pete Tong and features an uninterrupted two-hour mix from a different artist each week, overlaid with occasional continuity announcements delivered by Tong. With a broadcast run in excess of 25 years, the Essential Mix is one of the longest-running programmes in the current BBC Radio 1 schedule, and is one of very few Radio 1 shows which is not broadcast live.

In the blink of an eye Steyoyoke finds itself approaching its second birthday. A lot has changed since the label first emerged on the scene and tremendous strides have been taken in becoming a label to reckoned with on the scene. In mark of such efforts the label has put together its second Anniversary EP, featuring four remixes from four top artists on some of the labels highlights of the last year.

All tracks will be available on vinyl from the 14th of February and in digital on the 10th of March with the additional Pete Oak Dub Remix of ‘Play Again’. The 14th of March will see the label hitting Ritter Butzke to celebrate their second birthday coinciding with the release of the Anniversary EP. All featuring artists will be playing their part in showing that there is still plenty more to come from Steyoyoke.

“When I first met Jean Michel LaPointe (my creative partner) in Tarzana, Inspector Jack was one of the first songs produced at the legendary studio. We are both avid fans of classic movies from the 60s through 90s and me, being a huge fan ofInspector Gadget (growing Up watching it as a kid in Farsi). 
We thought it would be cool to produce a song that felt like it had the energy and gave a wild cinematic energy in the most organic way possible. Jean Michelle laid down an amazing Bassline and we thought why not add more layers to the Bassline like top notes. And then we were like, why not hire a whole brass quartet with the Bassline?? So we got the amazing Brandyn Phillips Brass Quartet to come in and we recorded them playing the bass line. Having real instruments was a game changer and something I had not done in this caliber, we really went full Lawrence of Arabia on this one. Pete Tong made his debut on Suara in September 2014. For this release called 'The Bumps', Pete had teamed up with his friend John Monkman. It was to be a juicy melodic tune. The influence of John Monkman could be felt heavily on the title track, derived from earlier Monkman releases on Get Physical, Armada, Warung or Anjunadeep. The original cut came backed with a remix from Pleasurekraft, who turned it into a peak-time stormer.

After a year, Suara is coming out with a remix package of the original, presenting some more household names this time: Moby, Suara boss Coyu and Julian Jeweil.
