Flashin' Like Gatsby is a new 4 track EP on Freshly Squeezed. It’s the debut solo release by ATOM SMITH  @atom-smith – formerly of the Californian duo THE GENTLEMEN CALLERS OF L.A. @gentlemen-callers-of-la - It offers a distinctly west coast take on the largely European phenomena of Electro Swing which is only now beginning to get some traction in the US.

As one half of THE GENTLEMEN CALLERS, ATOM developed and produced almost a dozen releases, including multiple projects for film, television, and performance, notably the world renowned MUTAYTOR, a 20 piece traveling tribal electro circus. ATOM has also made the ubiquitous international DJ appearances from Glastonbury to his home-turf Burning Man Festival to Coachella among many others. 
 
Flashin’ Like Gatsby mashes up hipster-hop, ghetto funk and electro swing in a distinctive and uniquely Californian (low-rider) way, featuring 2 tracks in collaboration with L.A. rapper BURKEY of @vokabkompany fame, sandwiched between a sample heavy (and guaranteed crowd-pleasing) version of the saucy 30’s Blues classic IF IT DON’T FIT (DON’T FORCE IT) by BARRELHOUSE ANNIE featuring LIMBOS AKIMBO (@damien-gonzalez), and a more traditional scat-jazz club banger in the EP’s closing number MISTER CAD featuring Andy McBain on clarinet and DJ EMMA CLAIR @Emmaclair .

After the completion of what we thought was the 12th and final release in our Blue Cover Series culminating in the massive 27 track retrospective compilation THE COMPLETE BLUE COVER SERIES (2012 - 2017) - we’ve found Flashin’ Like Gatsby a completely irresistible and worthy addition to this set and so we’re back once again starting a second helping - BLUE COVER 2.0!

Look out for forthcoming releases in this ‘just-won’t-quit’ series from likes of PiSk, JAWN, K.D.S, FAB SAMPERI and many more… but until then, we are really excited to kick off the new series with this super strong opener…

Swing Revolution is Jazzotron’s fifth official release with Freshly Squeezed. After three EP’s and a special Valentine’s Day single, this 12-track album is aiming to bring together the best of Jazzotron’s musical output, while also introducing several brand new songs.
Far from a simple compilation, every track on Swing Revolution has been revisited, reimagined and remastered into a new body of work. Apart from classics like Let’s Go and Diga Digga Doo, Swing Revolution also reveals a sneak peak into Jazzotron’s future with the new song My Revolution. It introduces a new featuring artist - vocalist Barbora Priester - whose voice could be heard on the 2018 Valentine’s Day single Be My Love. My Revolution weaves an arrangement around the singer’s voice that effortlessly blends electronic dance music, pop-drops and a brisk jazz guitar into a song that’s equal parts musical and clubby.
Jazzotron’s songwriting versatility and eclectic musical experience ensure that this Serbian producer and multi-instrumentalist repeatedly delivers music that pleases those who seek a fresh take on a beloved musical tradition just as much as club-goers looking for an exhilarating dance-floor anthem. ‘Blue Cover’ Series 2.1 marks the return of the popular Blue Cover Series as it began in 2012. The original Blue Cover Series ended after 5 years and 12 EP’s with a comprehensive collection and there was no intention of continuing it, but a few recent Freshly Squeezed releases proved to be worth reviving the concept.

The intention of the Blue Cover Series is mainly to showcase new signings and one-off singles by emerging and developing artists. Atom Smith, formerly of the Californian duo The Gentleman Callers of L.A., contributed two songs from his four-track Swing-Hop EP Flashin’ Like Gatsby, while the ever-enigmatic masked DJ The Swing Bot added his surprisingly dark and heavy Swing-House song Coquette. Pisk, better known as the mastermind producer behind the Italian Electro-Swing band Swingrowers, returns after 2017’s single Minnie the Moocher with his new track It Ain’t Right, influenced equal parts by Dancehall Swing and Latin Dance rhythms. JAWN is another returning artist, who waltzed into 2018 with a defiantly tempo-shifting seductive track Obsession (By My Side), featuring Alanna Lyes from label colleagues Grinny Grandad.

‘Blue Cover’ Series 2.1 is part of the revived Blue Cover Series, with future releases planned from the likes of, K.D.S., CHARLIE BEALE, FAB SAMPERI and others so keep your eyes peeled!
