It's been 5 years since I dropped my debut EP Protegé. 4 EPs, 3 albums, 12 singles, 7 features and 60M+ streams later, we are here today and that shit blows my mind. When a2k and I first recorded ‘Romantic’ back in 2017, we never anticipated everything that was to come. So much has happened in the past 5 years from graduating university, to losing Mum to cancer, to 2 years of COVID lockdowns, to meeting and marrying the love of my life. But one thing that has remained constant throughout is my passion for creating music. In celebration of Protegé’s 5 year anniversary, I've made this EP - a collection of songs about heartbreak, losing loved ones, finding love and time passing by. Enjoy ❤️

Prod by ARIA-nominated Jay Loon, this song is unlike anything I’ve ever made before. When I heard the beat I was so intrigued by the unique combination of nostalgic sounds, and I had such a blast writing to it. This is guaranteed to get stuck in your head, so apologies in advance. Enjoy!

The first single from ‘5 Years’. Taking things back to the sadboi sound that popularised my music. ‘Last Dance’ is an emotional ballad about letting go of someone despite still being in love. Even when you know it’s best to leave, that doesn’t necessarily make it any easier, and you can’t help but hope that things will all just magically work out one day.

Single number 2 from ‘5 Years’. A timeless, jazz-infused love song featuring one of Melbourne’s smoothest R&B vocalists Kobe White. A little something to slow dance, kiss in the rain, and fall in love to. This song feels like a warm hug, and is my personal favourite from the EP.

The final single from ‘5 Years’. A remake of the song that started it all, but with a new flip of the sample, a change in mood, and a very special feature. Before I started releasing my own music, I used to upload covers on Facebook and YouTube; inspired by @willsinge. If not for his influence, I may have never put myself out there online, so having him on my track is a real full circle moment for me. And my guy absolutely killed his verse. Super proud of this one.

Last year I found out my Mum’s now 4th fight with cancer will be her last. This is a poem I wrote at the time to express what she means to me and how I felt about the reality of losing her - a tribute to an incredibly resilient, inspiring and beautiful woman. It’s the most difficult track I’ve ever had to record. It samples ‘Tere Bin’ by Atif Aslam.
