c'è in giro da tempo una specie di 'nuova musica assoluta', astratta, che sta fra la cosiddetta 'ambient music' e la 'drone music', nei pressi dei cosiddetti 'soundscape' o, meglio ancora, degli 'innerscape' .. a volte ha tratti più 'cameristici', o addirittura per strumento solista, a volte è più 'sinfonica' .. a volte usa solo sonorità 'sintetiche', a volte invece anche strumenti 'tradizionali' .. ha antecedenti illustri, sia nella cosiddetta musica 'classica', diciamo storica, sia nella 'popular music' e nel jazz .. a quella soprattutto io guardo.

Here’s a poem by Matsuo Basho I came across in the book Cento Haiku by Irene Iarocci (available only in Italian).
According to Iarocci the word Hana in Japanese means flower, but if the type of flower is not specified, it means cherry blossom.

Shiba Sonome (1664–1726) was a haiku poet and disciple of Matsuo Bashô. Reichhold wrote about her: “One sees that most of these women gained access to the inner circle around Basho by being related either by marriage or blood to one of his disciples. It is possible that Shiba Sonome was one of the few to be accepted as a poet on her own. ”

The author ofthe week is Takai Kito, a disciple of Yosa Buson. Despite becoming a professional haikai master in 1771, Kito remained one of Buson’s most trusted disciples until the death of the great master, and was the de facto coordinator of Buson’s haikai group.

Mizuhara Shuoshi was a 20th century Japanese poet. Shuoshi rebelled against the principles of emotional detachment in haiku, which he thought limited his ability to emotionally express himself through poetry: he started a magazine called Staggerbush which focused on a more romantic, lyrical type of haiku.

Shirao Kaya was born in 1738 Fukagawa, Edo, now part of Tokyo. Shirao ran a school in Edo during Spring and Autumn, but in Summer and Winter he would move to the countryside to teach thousands of aspiring poets from throughout the Shinano province (now Nagano Prefecture). He’s considered one of the first enstablished haikai writers to help spread cultural forms from national to regional urban centers.

Ogiwara Seisensui was a Japanese haiku poet active during the Taishō and Showa periods of Japan. He started the school of free haiku which made Ozaki Hōsai and Taneda Santoka popular. In 1911 Seisensui, with the support of Kawahigashi Hekigodo (1873-1937), founded the literary magazine Soun.

Like Santoka and Seisensui, Kawahigashi Hekigoto (1873-1937) was an important advocate of the free verse haiku.
Besides being a writer and critic of haiku, Hekigoto was a literary scholar, noh dancer, art critic, calligrapher, social commentator, and mountain climber.

Dakotsu Iida trained under Takahama Kyoshi, and was chief editor of Unmo until his death. His son Ryuta Iida, a famous haiku poet himself, took over as the editor of Unmo after his father’s death.

Akutagawa Ryunosuke is one of the most well-known Japanese authors of short stories: his works include Rashomon (1915), A Fool’s Life (1927) and Spinning Gears (1927). A brilliant student and avid reader, Akutagawa was also a prolific poet.
