Not This Time

A 19th-century spiritual reimagined for the 21st-century dance floor.

This track started as a simple question: Can a melody this timeless and soulful be transported to a completely new sonic environment? I took the iconic spiritual "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot" and deconstructed it, then rebuilt it from the ground up with the tools of modern synth-pop.

The goal was to preserve the haunting, emotional core of the original while infusing it with a propulsive, hypnotic energy. The arrangement is built around classic 80s-inspired synthesizers, a driving drum machine beat, and layered, ethereal vocals. It’s a sonic experiment in bridging eras and genres—the very heart of The Sound of Pop Culture project.
