Heading straight for the fast lane is Josh Gigante with „Attention Seeker“. A hypnotic one-note bassline with ritualistic vocals takes you onto a night ride on the highway, until the overdrive kicks in and a sudden chainsaw-sounding lead is giving off sparks.

„Tanzwerk“ by Jepe takes you to a sinister sounding technocratic utopia, where suddenly all the sounds of machine processes align and form a dance floor symphony.

Next on the 21st Four To The Floor is „Folk“ by AIKON, an upbeat affair with slight hints of 80s, New Wave and Acid.

And closing off is „Music is the way“ by Spada feat. Klara Sestiniova, a dreamy end-of-night soundtrack that will definitely provide for a hands-up and eyes-closed moments.

Ahead of the release of his album entitled ‘+’, Swiss multi-instrumentalist Jimi Jules teases us with the first, mesmerizing and most sought-after single of the last month, entitled ‘My City’s On Fire’ executively produced by label boss Dixon. The artwork concept is developed and designed by iconic graphic artist Trevor Jackson, whose multi-disciplinary works formed the graphical identities of design, music, fashion and art by the likes of Soulwax, Massive Attack and HFD / Comme des Garcons.

A perfect match for ‘My City’s On Fire’ with its bold, razor-sharp synth lead and low-slung indie/disco live drumming. Jules touches on heritage dance genres while fusing in futuristic sounds and surreal lyricism throughout, amalgamating to a truly unique and danceable experience that embodies his clear abilities as a musician, vocalist, and producer all in one.

The seeds of KC & The Sunshine Band were planted when two South Florida boys, Harry Wayne Casey and Richard Finch met while working at the attic studio of T.K. Records, above the warehouse of Tones Distributors. Rick had worked his way up to assisting producers, while Harry's duties included processing returns and boxing up records, and sometimes playing keyboards in recording sessions.

It was Casey’s idea for him and Finch to pool their skills. "Everybody else had a team together already", says Rick. "He found out I played bass and drums, and I found out he played keyboards, and when the studio was empty in the evenings, we would go up there and find out what kind of music would happen. A lot of people would throw tape away because they couldn’t figure out how to make the machine erase properly, Rick recalls. It was expensive, so I would take it out of the trash can, wind it up on the reel, clean it up, and use that for recording".

Not only were the boys thrifty, but, thanks to the sessions they had already played in the studio, they were also fast. It didn’t take much experimenting for the two to get their own eclectic sound together. KC & The Sunshine Band released two singles from their first album, "Do It Good" and hit the R&B charts when "Blow Your Whistle" went to #27 in the fall of ’73 and "Sound Your Funky Horn" made it to #21 in early ’74.

The first real sign that the Casey/Finch sound was really clicking came in September of 1974, when "Queen Of Clubs" reached the U.K. Top 10, and the Sunshine Band was in demand for live gigs all around the country. This was good news, of course. But the best news was yet to come courtesy of one George McCrae and a song he wrote called "Rock Your Baby".

As studio musicians, Casey and Finch recorded the rhythm track in just 45 minutes, with just one additional player, Jerome Smith, on guitar. Company brass, Henry Stone and Steve Alaimo felt the song had potential and offered it to Gwen McCrae, who passed on it. Then, George McCrae, who happened into the studio, heard the instrumental and in a mere two takes, put down his own vocals. The song was released, and George McCrae had a number one hit on his hands.

Le Rubrique, who’s been at the forefront of Germany’s disco-house scene with his work behind the scenes with Sucio, is back with his new track “Pata Pata”, releasing on the latest volume (012) of the German Footjob label. Demonstrating his versatility with this addictive, well crafted, afro disco machine, Le Rubrique also utilizes pieces from oft-sampled afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti.

Le Rubrique, employs his signature disco-house sound on "Pata Pata", but in a fresh and striking way. The song is kicked off by an infectious drum fill which helps to drive the main beat, creating an irresistibly catchy groove. The percussion is quickly met by the introduction of a choppy warm rhodes melody, that when paired with the subtle shakers and crispy open hi-hats, give it the rawness and organic feel of a live show. Let's not forget the sampled vocals from the famous Fela composition, Upside Down, that really tie the whole piece together. Le Rubrique is normally known to mix his tracks to have somewhat of a softer vibe, but with this track's soaring brass hits and powerful drums, his versatility shines through. You can find Footjob's latest compilation including Le Rubrique's track "Pata Pata" here.

The eight chapter of the infamous Slow Motion Compilation series, “Italian Dance Wave Disco Otto”, has quite some hidden gems to be discovered. Beginning with a track from Marcello Giordani DJ (half of the duo Marvin & Guy), that expresses a perfect Italian melancholic sunset (as the title also states), energetic, strong, but always poetic. Always following that “beachy” vibes we find The Caribbean House, serving a track that could last a century, and we would never mind. Electro hints mixing with deep and balearic vibes: ears glued to the headphones. Moreover, we have again Slow Motion queen, System Olympia with a track that could make even nuns sweat on the dance floor: beats and bass to die for. To close this chapter, you can pamper your ears with a angry balearic track from Gallo, not suited for the more weak hearts, that’s for sure.

Back around the turn of the millennium Tepat Huleux and Giac Di Falco, lured by dazzlingly eclectic sets by the likes of The Glimmers and 2manyDJs, would sneak out of their Lille homes, cross the Belgian border and dance all night at the legendary parties that birthed Eskimo Recordings. 20 years later the pair, now known as You Man, make their debut on the label with the stunning 4 track ‘Altered States’ EP.

Those early club experiences obviously made an impact as the pair have followed that open minded approach with their new EP embracing everything from dark disco to muscular EBM, euphoric trance to Konnakol, a percussive vocal effect used in Southern Indian Carnatic music, and even Di Falco’s background as a trained psychologist and hypnotherapist. The result a mesmerising experience primed to both open and expand minds on the dancefloor.

With releases on labels such as Tronik Youth’s NEIN, their stunning live shows and hypnotic visuals created by Huleux, the pair have firmly established themselves on the underground disco scene, their eclectic tastes and esoteric interests combining to create a distinctive sound that is sure to win over even more hearts and minds in 2020 with the release of the ‘Altered States’ EP.
