Raw Meat" es una pieza musical profundamente emotiva que surge de las experiencias personales y reflexiones de Santa Niña. La composición, iniciada alrededor de 2019 pero finalizada recientemente, sirve como un medio de expresión para canalizar las emociones intensas y la rabia interna que la artista experimentó durante momentos de adversidad.

El título mismo, "Raw Meat" (Carne Cruda), evoca imágenes de vulnerabilidad y dolor. Santa Niña compara la sensación de dolor interno y el sufrimiento invisible con los hematomas que deja un golpe contundente. La música es una metáfora poderosa de cómo el dolor puede ser profundo y penetrante, como la carne cruda que duele incluso cuando la herida está oculta a simple vista.

La historia detrás del track añade una capa adicional de significado. La creación de la música comenzó durante un período en el que Santa Niña enfrentaba serios desafíos personales y estuvo al borde de la muerte. La música se convirtió en una vía de escape y en una herramienta para procesar y liberar la rabia y la angustia interna que experimentaba.

Sin embargo, el proceso de finalización del track se vio interrumpido nuevamente cuando Santa Niña estuvo involucrada en un accidente automovilístico, enfrentándose una vez más a la mortalidad y a la fragilidad de la vida. Esta segunda experiencia traumática provocó una profunda reflexión sobre las creencias personales, así como sobre la naturaleza efímera y precaria de la existencia.

A medida que Santa Niña continuaba trabajando en "Raw Meat" después de estos eventos, la música se convirtió en un medio de autorreflexión y autodescubrimiento. La rabia inicial se transformó en una búsqueda interior para reconciliarse consigo misma y para encontrar significado en medio del sufrimiento.

El entorno en el que se creó la música, el estudio Sweet Visions en Coatepec, Veracruz, también juega un papel significativo en la atmósfera y la energía del track. La naturaleza exuberante y la serenidad de la ubicación contrastan con la intensidad emocional de la música, creando un ambiente que refleja la dualidad de la experiencia humana: la belleza y la brutalidad, la luz y la oscuridad.

En última instancia, "Raw Meat" es más que una simple pieza musical; es un testimonio poderoso de la capacidad del arte para sanar, transformar y dar voz a las experiencias más profundas y personales. A través de sus ritmos pulsantes, melodías inquietantes y letras introspectivas, el track invita al oyente a sumergirse en un viaje emocional y a reflexionar sobre la naturaleza de la vida, el sufrimiento y la resiliencia humana.

You cannot separate pleasure from pain. Grotesque drums hiss and boom inside drill’s stricture, voices utter shattered phrases to each other in a darkening chain of whispers, synthetic violins mourn their last and rush towards singularity. Drawing upon the ‘self indulgent, purple prose’ of Angela Carter, the staggering works of composers Villa Lobos and Xennakis, the fissure between pagan mysticism of England past and its feckless, soul consuming present; ‘England as a Succubus’ is a lustful spirit that writhes and vibrates against a backdrop of lurid sonic pressure. 

Raised amongst the trees of the North Dorset countryside and presently residing in Manchester, Ship Sket grapples with a frenetic and maximalist style that subverts and perverts expectations of UK bass music with equal measure.

His new EP 'England as a Succubus' will be out on 7th June 2024 on Illegal Data.

Following up from work on Björk´s 'Fossora', Icelandic trio 'sideproject' debut on SVBKVLT with their new full-length album 'sourcepond'. Taking influence from the fog-covered wetlands of their native island, sideproject transfigure influences from the low-end frequencies of grime and bass music, and reshape it into a haze of transient-smeared beats accompanied by breathy synths that grow ever wetter till they slip beneath the surface tensions of their harmonic stratum. Compared to previous output, 'sourcepond' opts for a more concise approach to their music, stacking up their influences of experimental electronic, Icelandic punk and contemporary club music, and builds a sound that oscillates between melodic hooks and experimental rhythms. Each track carves through the sensuous material, pulling the listener into the dank sourcepond as though magnetic forces were guiding a bird's beak towards misty horizons.

The 42nd release of katharsis is the collaborative album “Soft Space” by label founder jjjacob and various other artists from around the world, coming out on May 31st. The album works as a sequel to his previous full-length release "Brutal Nature" from 2022, both in terms of the collaborational dogma in production but also in the thematic connection and contrast between the brutality of nature and the softness of space. All tracks emerged as infantile jjjacob sketches, then taking more form and gaining inspirational matter from the collaborating artists' conduct and care, before finally being concluded by the final touches of jjjacob again.

The result is as the title suggests smooth and gentle at most times, but it does though have more wicked and harsh moments and aspects throughout the album. The emotional journey of the album keeps pendulating between the pleasant floating sensations of celestial emptiness and the brute mysticality of the unknown. At times it feels aerodynamic or dissolving, at others it tastes crispy and anthemic, but the overall output is definitely ethereal and cosmic.
