‘Sweet Airs’, is part of  ‘The Hebrides Suite’, a series of works focused on the Outer Hebrides, islands off the west coast of Scotland with a rich and distinctive cultural identity as well as a complex history of settlement and migrations. Gaelic language and culture are strong. Through interviews, field recordings and existing oral history materials it investigates aspects of people’s relationship to place, moving beyond the visual and listening out for the sonic traces of past lives and past events..
Sweet Airs was composed as an 8-channel installation work during a residency at Q-O2 in Brussels in August 2014 and exhibited in a solo exhibition at Ohrenhoch Gallery, Berlin in September 2014 It was also released on the Framework Seasonal Issue 8 CD , Framework Radio, and online at

‘Sweet Airs’ returns to an aspect of Hebridean life which I previously explored in ‘Gaoth’. The wind is an constant  accompaniment to all aspects of life and responsible for so many things in the Hebrides. ‘Sweet Airs’ concentrates on a particular type of sonic experience, common in the Outer Hebrides where, neither blocked by the built environment nor masked by the sounds of traffic, the wind acts as a carrier of human and animal presence, labour and activity, and the sounds of inanimate objects. These airborne sounds often come from far away, their source hidden from view. The piece uses recordings of some of these sonic occasions - the sounds of a birthday party far across the island; sheep roaming the cliffs; people singing hymns together in a house; cows waiting to board the ferry to be sold on the mainland; snippets of a church service and the cries of different birds. The wind also has its own voices and activates the songs of gates, plants, leaves, and fences.

Diffused Dead Icon Inspires Hobbyist To Exceed Entry Level Building Skills is the first track from a new project called "Then She Reaches For The Gun". Its inspiration is two fold: Firstly its a homage to some of the stuff i grew up listening to like Mr. Bungle and other noisy bastards where anything goes, and often in quick fire succession and secondly its a chance to work with an never ending stream of talented musicians that i have known for years either in real life Australia or via the Internet. "The one that's right, I think, is the story 'bout folks livin' up on Red Hill, lookin' down on the flat Delta, all covered in red clover in the Spring...that sounds like a Red Sea, don't it?" (Uncle Hassell, taped interview, May, 1989)

For this piece, Hassell used tape loops ("some of 'em was so worn out, you couldn't tell what it was") and synthesizers to evoke the sight of Prairie Mer Rouge in the early days of settlement, as a warm breeze created waves on a sea of red clover.

As a break from the routine of farming and cotton gin operation, Uncle Hassell enjoyed the occasional business trips to Lake Providence or Tallulah. While there, he would always make time to stand on the levee above the Mississippi River and watch the big barges churning upriver with manufactured goods and supplies and coasting back down with agricultural commodities.

This piece of synthesizer-generated loops was meant to evoke the slow passage diesel-engine tugs on the big water.

I lived in South Minneapolis for 4 years, most of that time in an apartment building on Chicago Avenue and 39th St, just a block from the intersection where police murdered George Floyd. 

Music for Insurrection is a sound collage, blending field-recordings I made in South Minneapolis, livestream audio from the Uprising in May 2020, samples, and improvised instrumentation (flute, practice soprano sax, sampler, fx).  
Livestream samples from Unicorn Riot, friends' Instagram stories, and Youtube, including  a sample of Mel Reeves speaking to protesters. Excerpt from Octavia Butler's Parable of the Sower (1993) read by me.

During the second wave of the pandemic in Poland, in autumn, vocalists Agata Harz and Katarzyna Smoluk recorded improvised tracks based on an ancient Slavic spell, or ‘enchantment’, as they called it, the purpose of which is to call forth spring after a dark, terrifying wintertime. The vocal tracks lie at the heart of Tim Hecker’s composition, commissioned or Unsound's 'Intermission' album, to be released on March 5th, 2021.

... still not able to play sax, so I'm on a "wandering path", focusing on alternatives:-) -------- here some overtone vocals, acoustic & electric guitar (improvisation in one take) ... synth & drum VSTs and some drum loops for the right feeling ... I tend more to jazz, but sometimes I have to rock :-D ... The feeling of being able to go wherever we want - I think that's moving a lot of people right now - I had fun to express this feeling !
