Quick & dirty preview on creative uses of PITCHMAP. A loop from a lounge-flavored track provided courtesy of absolutesongs.com first plays unprocessed, then we step through a couple of snapshots in real-time, changing harmonies on-the-fly. We didn't bother optimizing for fidelity or drum transients, we deliberately chose somewhat extreme settings to show off some creative options and tuning-effects, and didn't bother with mapping pitches to the closest octave when changing harmonies. Here's an example of changing the chord/harmony/melody of a song. Loop provided courtesy of absolutesongs.com . First, we play the original loop, then we change the chord/harmony/melody using the standard algorithm, then we switch to "strict" mode, which tunes extremely accurately. Note how the standard algorithm leaves the drums and transients nearly completely untouched! Strict mode sacrifices transient detail slightly for increased reduction of intra-note pitch variation.

Showing some more creative options PITCHMAP opens up. First, we play the original loop, then we pull nearly all notes to the same output pitch while changing the key/scale and tuning strictly, to get a nice, resonant yet focused sound. Next, we increase the "Purify" parameter, which makes the sound rather liquid/resonant, and add some portamento/sliding using our "Glide" parameter.

While PITCHMAP is not optimized for suppressing/extracting elements from a mix, its content-aware "mute filters" can be used for such applications to some extent --- consider this a bonus thrown in! First we play a latin flavored dub-esque loop, then we drop the bass line and other low-end instruments from it. We return to the original loop to make the difference clear, then we suppress pitched instruments, isolating the drums. Note how transients remain crisp and phase coherent !Next up, there's a deep house loop, playing unprocessed first, then we suppress everything except the vocal. Note how the vocal retains most of its detail, thanks to our Natural mode. Again, PITCHMAP is not optimized for suppression/extraction, but does it rather well. PITCHMAP lets you set the target pitch grid by playing MIDI to it in real-time. Effectively, this lets you play music with your source signal providing the instruments and rhythm. Just insert the plug-in, play some stuff on a MIDI keyboard, done.
In this demo, we first play the original loop, a snippet from a tune provided courtesy of absolutesongs.com. Then, we use PITCHMAP in MIDI MAP mode and play some melodies and chords, generating a completely new piece of music on the fly.
