After an intriguing debut appearance on Lobster Theremin’s PLUR compilation in 2020, New York’s Talker prepares his debut on Cheeky Sneakers with four varying cuts of emotive breakbeat and squelchy electro NRG.

‘Information’ takes the swaying aesthetics and waved basslines of contemporary breaks and wraps it in a digital ribbon; a periodic dip into a post-humanoid world where information is no longer something we consume, but something we have become. Delicate melodies swirl above the clouds leading the raver to their inevitable peak, before large kicks and percussive power sparks the fuse with a flurry of gun fingers and hands ascending towards new heights.

‘Da Business’ again wraps its electronic sequence in a modern blanket with elements of grime, garage and electro taking it in turns to wow and delight; a distinctive, lairy UK energy moulds together with ice-like synth work on an emotional trip that packs a punch, before the B-side is introduced on ‘X’, a squelching cut of acid-electro made for late nights and strobe lights.

‘Echolation’ finishes things off the way it stated - cinematic breakbeat that invites the listener to take a moment for themselves on the dancefloor, looking inward for moments of private contemplation as the euphoria is pushed increasingly outward.

Nerang Recordings celebrates its fifth trip around the sun with the second ‘Freaky Friends’ compilation. The six-track compilation features a well-rounded cast of producers, some of whom are marking their return to the label, along with Cologne’s Turk Turkelton, who makes their first appearance on the imprint. Nerang Recordings head honcho DJ Whipr Snipr pulls out all the stops with this excellently curated compilation.

Since its inception in 2016, the Berlin-via-Australia imprint has featured releases by the likes of Interplanetary Criminal, DJ Swagger, Subjoi, Cassettes for Kids and Low Tape, amongst others.

Kicking off the release is DJ Swagger’s ‘Hoticewater’ with its shimmering, ethereal breakbeat feel. Russian electro wizard Low Tape marks his return to the label with ‘So Delicious’, a mood-inducing electro bomb that the producer is known for creating. Rounding off the A-side is Nørus, alongside label head DJ Whipr Snipr, with ‘Molecular Collision’, an acid-tinged electro jam that picks up the tempo.

The B-side maintains the pace from the get-go with Ole Mic Odd’s ‘In The House’, a track that harnesses 80’s futurism with its use of robotic vocal lines and electrifying arps. Next up is ‘Stop Talking Boy’ by Nasty King Kurl, a track that makes great use of hard hitting drums and commanding percussion. Cologne’s Turk Turkelton finishes off the compilation with the track ‘Offenbachs Father’, another electro-leaning track with a razor-sharp drum workout.

Next up on eudemonia is the Frankfurt-based duo ‚not even noticed‘. With only a couple of vinyl releases during the last years the two artists are relatively new to the scene. However their sound is perfectly produced and meets the tooth of time. The ‚No More Waiting‘ EP consists of five outstanding futuristic electro and breaks-influenced tracks each going into their own direction. It is no secret that Montreal had a bubbly disco scene, but there are still some under-the-radar gems. Sophie Stanké is one of them. The charismatic Quebec-Lithuanian actress, radio host and singer hung around with some of the hippest disco people of the 80s, and worked on the sexy boogie song "L'amour d'une diva" with no other than Geraldine Hunt. Scandalous at the time, it became a local disco hit. Famous french singer Daniel Guichard noticed her and signed the song – slightly rearranged – in France on his label Kuklos. Here is the rarest original Canadian arrangement that Stima reissued, in all its glory: long and instrumental versions.

The other side includes the more obscure and even more erotic "J'adore". It was issued in 1987 under her first name, Sophie, with synth-pop and new wave influence. An instrumental was missing, thus Baerlz delivers a new dub cover and now each song has also its “version”, in the purest 80s 12 inches tradition.

After ten years spent in France, where she worked with another star singer Nicolas Peyrac, Sophie is now still active in Québec's cultural life. Stima is proud to have her permission to reissue these 2 fresh 80s tracks to hit the modern dancefloors.
