It's 10:15 he lights his last cigarette and casts his eye on the bowl of peanuts.
It's two stools down next to that frizzy haired girl who sips her drink like she's the princess of Venus
It's 10:35 he waves the bartender by who reads in Cosmo 'bout the importance of layers
And on his third try, she finally saunters by, he pays twenty dollars for a pack of Players.
And he , "Hey, can you slide those nuts on down?"

10:54 and the princess looks bored, she checks her watch as he licks salt off his fingers.
From her drink she pulls a cherry while nametag that says "Mary" passes by with a perfume that lingers.
He puts his cigarette down, straw makes a gurgling sound, he's not sure, but it seems the princess's pulled nearer.
Behind the bar, Mary looks like a star, she puts down her magazine and stares at the mirror.

He bets she's thinking that,
Hey, pretty soon I'll walk out that door
This fat guy's drink'll be the last I pour
Or maybe Hey, tonight's the night that I mop the floor
I wonder if thereís anything good tonight on Channel 4..

she puts down her magazine and stares at the mirror.

He tried to make him strong,   
so he caged him where he belonged.     
And with his hand he showed him what was wrong.
And he held in his fist an official list of what it takes to   
be a man.       

Now the boy he wanted his desires to be known.
But then he found out it's much easier to be alone.
Because all the time too many inconsistencies were shown,       
by the man with the plans and the rough leather hands   
who was determined that he'll
make a man...   
he'll make a man.       

It just takes a kick here and a belt there,     
forgotten promise here and a threat there.     
Some structured time and some discipline       
to get this boy out of the mess he's in...     
and make him a man.

But now the boy is growing old.
And he's tired of doing what he's told.
And suddenly he finds that he's enrolled,       
at a height where he no longer pays half price

And so now he trips here and he falls there,
he drinks some beer and he loses hair. 
He passes by with a hidden twitch

can find his niche and his father said to use his head but     
he never really let him think, instead,
he tried to run his life for him and cure him of unspoken sins,
and he tried to breed him well with speed and make a man       
who soon would lead.   
But now the boy don't know who to follow       
just when to talk or when to swallow   
and now his life is sick and hollow filled only with the threat of tomorrow.
But tomorrow comes and he wakes up     
puts on his clothes and straightens up 
walks out the door once more with the hope     
that he can be a man.

Charlie's Changing (Be A Man)

I've been playing music since I was 14. I sing, play bass and drums and just enough guitar to write songs. I've been blessed to work with a few very talented musicians over the years. Songs I post here may be just me but most will be featuring contributions from old bandmates I've worked with for years.  All recording, production and mixing is done in home studios by me or us.
