There are only a few record labels that conquered the last sixteen years harmlessly. And even less of these still have a considerable impact across a broad front nowadays in 2013. This success is being celebrated this fall at the Sonar Kollektiv Festival '13 in Berlin. 

The festivities are now available as a hand-tight supporting document in form of a sixteen-track-strong, limited and special festival compilation, “Sonar Kollekting Vol.1”. These sixteen tracks provide an appetizing overview about what Sonar Kollektiv stands for these days and displays the wide spectrum of musical styles. There are amongst others the label's biggest hits of the last two years: FETSUM's "Letter From Damascus", The White Lamp's "Make It Good" and Alex Barck's "Re-set". 
Barck's just released debut solo album “Reunion” also spins off “Doubter” (in a Hannes Fischer remix). Another teaser is served with “White Walls” off the upcoming debut album “Lux” by  Paskal & Urban Absolutes. Of course Neve Naive can't be missed on this showcase neither. How sophisticated their album "The Inner Peace Of Cat And Bird" from earlier this year is shows the song "How I Learned To Fly" impressively. A rather surprising contribution comes from Jah Wobble & PJ Higgins with “Watch How You Walk”. But this track, as well as the according album by the London based postpunk and world music legend, will also be released on the Berlin quality imprint very soon. 

The collection would definitely not be complete without tracks by Hot Coins (“New Beat” in a Ron Basejam remix), the latest signing, Manhooker & Snax (“Cloud 9”) and the re-discovered Berlin folk jazz band from 1981 Spinning Motion (“Confidence In The Future”), soon to be reissued by Notes On A Journey.

And there's even room for specials & exclusives that haven't been released on Sonar Kollektiv yet,  like “Stuck” by Mao, Travis Lee's “Take You Away” (coming 2014) , “Blue Waters” by Rockford Inc., Stee Downes' “Caught Up” (from the upcoming album!) and “I Hope” by Beaux Sunchazah.

A compilation rich in variety at the highest musical stage and a valid evidence for Sonar Kollektiv's on-going claim to be one of the main places to go to for good music that works in clubs as well as at home. On the next sixteen years!

Berlin artist Dominique Dillon de Byington aka Dillon released the follow up to her 2011 album 'Silence Kills' back in March and 'The Unknown' once again showcased her intelligent songwriting and beautifully whimsical vocals.

The first single to be taken from 'The Unknown', released via BPitch Control, was 'A Matter Of Time' and the striking piano chords and haunting feel gave listeners an idea of what to expect. Now, the single gets a full remix package.

As well as spellbinding remixes from Anstam, Planningtorock and Monokle, Dillon's track has been edited by none-other than Berghain's resident and techno master Marcel Dettmann and we have the first play.

Following their ongoing relationship with Soma Records, Ukrainian duo Woo York are set to release their new record that proves to be somewhat representative of recent dramatic events in their country. Entitled I Am Against, both the main track and the EP itself are referring to the developments that lead to revolutionary struggle of the Ukrainian people. Fighting inequality, saying what you have to say and doing what you have to do seem to be the core ideas of the record. You might have figured that out yourself by spotting a rebel protester from January’s clash with riot police depicted on the record sleeve. The EP also features a special remix from UK Techno producer, Ø [Phase].

Music-wise the EP presents the same idea: the epic energy of the title track highlights the drive that was fuelling peaceful individuals to go out onto the streets and fight for their rights. An excellent remix from Ø [Phase] follows a similar path, although in its own original way that has made the UK-based artist’s name associated with the finest techno to date.  Closing the EP ‘In The End’ is a more abstract side of Woo York’s music works that reminds us once again: every single act of violence is bound to come to an end at some point.

Oxia & Yannick Baudino - Just As Well EP

For their second release of 2015, Saved Records put their faith in two seasoned pros of the house and techno scene. With a combined total of over 30 years experience between them, long-time friends Oxia & Yannick Baudino step up to the plate and deliver some deep, sultry and groovy tech-house with the Just As Well EP.

“I heard You” is a pacey tech chugger that comes with plenty of drive and purposefulness. Built around a swaying bassline, lush swabs of synth and tight, punchy beats, the track evolves with a thoughtful yet visceral groove. Billie Bergström’s sensual vocals interplay perfectly with the jangling piano keys, creating a spiraling cascade of rhythm and groove.

“Just More” is more laidback but heavier and deeper also. The soundscape is sparser, giving the track a stripped back feel but the beefed up bass keeps its dancefloor head on. Subtle melodies are intertwined in the mix, creating a vibe that is as beautiful as it is functional.

The dub mix of “I Heard You” rounds off the package with a joyful rendition of the original. Just stripped to the idiosyncratic bassline, the track takes on a life of its own and settles into a party mood that is devoid of any tension or drama. It’s just sheer adulterated fun.

Cadenza Records displays a deft touch in showcasing new talent, just as much as it leans on its core of established producers.  The ‘Split’ EP shines a bright light on the musical endeavors of Enrico Gasperini AKA gAs, and fellow Italian, Lino Pugliese.

One side of vinyl each, and gAs opens up Side A with ‘Rack Attack’, its woody hits and scattering hi-hats holding a solid groove whilst gentle keys entwine a melodic touch with a stuttering synth riff that’s designed to circulate around the brain.  Splashes of cymbals and white noise provide the all important drama as the track rises to a crescendo.  Enrico’s second contribution, ‘Agogo’, keeps up the ante with another slice of exquisite house grooves.  The inner-city street ambience opening gives way to an undeniably funky rhythm track, incessant spongy stabs and frenzied percussion that makes this one a sure fire winner.

Over on Side B, Lino Pugliese gets to flex his sonic palette after recent releases on Cadenza Lab and Memento.  ‘Banging On Your Door’ takes its time to unfurl; a percussive swing not too dissimilar to the Stones’ ‘Sympathy For The Devil’ sets the tone magnificently, as low frequency synth sweeps and distant vocal effects build, the kick drum jolting the track into life with bursts of furry snares and handclaps. More ambient soaked business on ‘Aniwama’ as Lino forges melodious piano and clanging ride cymbals with low end sonics as the track deconstructs as quickly as it builds, tearing up the arrangement rule books to create a unique cut that can perform as a mood-setting piece just as well as a peak time genre-shifter.

Dear friends, we are all living through a really difficult moment in these days. We must stay positive, and music can be a great help in releasing some of the stress and sadness we are experiencing. 

Exactly 2 years ago I released my debut album on @thegodsplanet . This was an amazing opportunity - I had the challenge to demonstrate myself as a deep techno artist in the scene, and DJ’s and even magazines like @resident-advisor , @monument-podcast , @orbmag and @clubbingspain reacted with positive feedback.

To commemorate this special moment i made a unique continuous mix, slowing down the tracks and changing the tonalities, making the mood even more ethereal. 🙂
