Driven by that overwhelming sense of wonder, surprise and contrast that has been incubating deep in their subconcious for so long, Bain is a reflective exploration of worlds, sounds, pictures and emotions informed by years of theory and practice in both the electronic and classical realms. 

This is their first adventure, the beguiling debut It's You; an enigmatic weave of ambient, techno, progressive and score music, chased back with a subtle sip of Gaelic.

And now for something completely different. Following Sofa’s no-nonsense jungle adventure, we now have something so utterly nonsensical and ridiculous it will either enrage or delight you. Please welcome gladde paling. 

The smoothest eel this side of the Scheldt, part merrymaker, part mad scientist, gladde paling has been tickling fans silly with his intense two minute hype bullets for exactly a year. Launching last July, his signature is based in finding daft, surreal and plain stupid samples and flipping them into meme-ified missives that flex between jump-up, hardcore and hard dance. 

Literally anything is fair game to this young talent. From the announcement sound on a Dutch Intercity Sprinter to sounds of chickens, sirens, strange spoken vocals, his own Instagram followers and cult theme tunes anyone who grew up outside of The Netherlands will have no clue about.   

Sitting on the fence is impossible. You will either love or hate it. But no one can deny the freshness gladde paling offers amid a sea of identikit dark rollers and emo copies right now. As he says himself in this interview, people don’t go to a rave... so why be serious?

It’s officially a good time to be a Submorphics fan, appreciator or enthusiast… Fresh from his involvement in the hive mind heroics of The North Quarter All Stars, the Netherlands-based, US-raised soul man has just launched his own label Rosebay Music.

Established to develop a more prolific output for himself and music from peers and new talent in the future, Rosebay Music launched earlier this month with a warm and toasty two-tracker: the footwork-inspired Blastoff and the whirling orchestral euphoria of Cinerama.

Building on a discography that’s now the best part of 20 years deep and boasts releases on some of the most respected labels in drum & bass – Innerground, Hospital, SGN, Liquid V and of course The North Quarter where he’s a firm fixture on the roster - both Blastoff and Cinerama capture where he’s at sonically, creatively and soulfully in summer 2023. 

Plenty more can be expected imminently as he makes a concerted effort to push himself out of his comfort zone and boost his music on a level he’s not operated at before. Not just on Rosebay, either. If you’ve been checking for drum & bass jungle since the 2000s then the name Social Security should definitely be familiar with you… 

First emerging around 2000-2001, brothers Moses (Child Support) and Inzajeano (Crisis Loan) Latif made a big noise with a gritty sound that would stir deep deep deeeeeep into the jungle melting pot. 

Named after the old benefits system in the UK (which pretty much anyone who came from working class background would have to rely on at points during the 80s and 90s) the community-minded duo’s sound was powerful, soulful and rolling with serious intent. It was a consistent signature throughout the 2000s and a decent chunk of the 2010s… And is now back for the 2020s. 

A defiant middle finger to the current (and scarily escalating) Cost Of Greed crisis, Social Security returns after taking a break to focus on other aspects of life, including an ongoing acting career. Now with Moses rolling solo at the helm, he continues with the work he and his brother started all those years ago. 

Fresh from dropping the hair-raising sci-fi odyssey Dimension X, last week, Social Security is ready to dish out another round of benefits for the scene at a time when we need them the most. 🌞Welcome to Marble Elephant's garden for our first al fresco Come B2B With Me!! 🌞

This one is special. I have a lot of time for Marble Elephant and the sonic range they trek. Both big advocates of the deeper, emotional and cinematic sounds across the 140-170 spectrum, their cuts on labels such as Incurzion, Fent Plates, Fokuz and their own Fragrance play a key role in my deeper mixes and they're awesome people too.  

I first met Tina and Baptise at a stream called Mental Health Matters exactly four years before, back in May 2021. It was during that strange time when we were coming out of the lockdowns and one of the first times any of us had human interaction beyond our bubbles for a long time. For that reason alone it was a profound encounter but for added extra, it was also where I met Chiz who would eventually become my first mentorship student and has been a huge part of 1 More Thing. 

It turns out that particular stream was Tina's first ever set, too... And that's she'd actually learnt to mix for it! Four years later, you can see how much she slays and how deep she digs in this mix! With a partner and creative soul mate like Baptise, it's clear they both push and support each other in a really lush and wholesome way. 

With this in mind, plus everything this mix concept is based on - inclusion, fusion, sharing ideas and inspiration and having a buzz together - this has all the right ingredients. 

A deep connection, some deep-assed tunes and even a random Lakeway in background all in a beautiful outdoor spot on a lovely balmy bank holiday afternoon the day before Tina and Baptise hosted a little private party. 

It'll be impossible to forget this one!!

By far the most ambitious and talent-racked session of the series so far! 

One sunny afternoon in Bristol earlier this year 1 More Thing interrupted a Yamatai Records and Transparent Audio writing camp and took up two of their hours with this mega mix up. In Selector J Man's studio no less!! 

A proper Sunday flavour with a few beers, plenty chats and a chill vibe that felt like it could go well into the evening, this was a unique and super cool moment between Dave and a bunch of new-generation artists who represent two very on-point labels that are right on the futuristic cusp of drum & bass. 

While the rest of this series is quite intense and reaction heavy, this one is a far more laid back. The mixes are tight, the dubs are fresh, the music is cutting edge but this is business as usual for everyone in the room so there's way less focus on the mix and more focus on the social. 

Just like those Saturday and Sunday morning post rave sessions that were part of the inspiration for this series in the first place!

Not just because Chiz had me at a Pirates to do a tear-out neuro mix at 10am on a Sunday but because this mix is a celebration of everything we have achieved together in the last two years. 

Chiz is Marc Chisholm who has been a consistent voice and hugely positive energy at 1 More Thing since he came on board as a mentorship student two years ago. As he explains in the interviews pre and post mix, his life was in a very different place than it is now.

Now one of the co-owners of exciting, forward-thinking neuro label Brainrave, and literally about to do his first ever international headline show this week, Chiz has taken all opportunities I've given him and rocketed to places neither of us could have imagined in August 2023. 

The love and respect is a two way street and he's been a vital powerhouse at 1 More Thing allowing me to do all the cool things we've done over the last two years including hosting takeovers, launching the label side of things and running events. He was also the curator for our Freshest Drum & Bass playlist for most of his time with us so if you've released any D&B in the last two years, and we've playlisted it, that's down to him! 

Marc will always be 1 More Thing family but for now he's with us in vibe and spirit as we watch him take his inspirations and passions to exciting new levels.

We've hit the 140th edition of our mix series!!!!

To mark this significant milestone we've called in some serious kindred spirits - C-Bo & Cuttah AKA Deep Tempo. 

Two music lovers who definitely come from a similar place in terms of how they support, celebrate and document the culture they love, C-Bo and Cuttah's Deep Tempo podcast has been one of the most consistent and solid platforms for dubstep and 140 related music across the board and across the generations. 

From its podcast roots their brand has grown to comprise a label, a zine, merch and a pretty intense DJ schedule. Listen to this mix and you'll hear just why they're booked for respected nights like Heavyweight and Deep Medi!

It's another biggie!!! Following last week's emotional rollercoaster with CHIZ, NoDave drives over to Bristol for another meaningful clash of sounds, souls and vibes, this time with kindred spirit KJAH and the focus is very much on the classic rolling Bristol sound. 

It's a sound that's so synonymous with KJAH that I honestly thought he was literally a Bristolian for years before we first spoke years ago when I interviewed him for UKF. 

Turns out he's just a deep deep DEEP nerd for that timeless, foundational essence of West Country jungle. The fact he regularly works with originator and Full Cycle pioneer Suv is as big as co-signs get in this field. And the fact I am able to go toe-to-toe with him in his own studio is an amazing feeling for me! 

I say it every time but I love it when a B2B makes me focus and zone in on a particular vibe and style. Mixing with Keiran definitely made me do that. This is proper unapologetically headsy session of late 90s inspired basslines, deep jungle and contemporary bass rollers that we could have continued for hours.

Unfortunately a little tech failure occurs along the way so you'll have to deal with just the sound for around 10 mins mid way but honestly who would want to look at these old grumpy faces when you can close your eyes and listen to some serious BEATS? Especially as many of them from KJAH's side are unreleased, forthcoming exclusives!!!

That first time you ever heard or felt or saw something you've since come to love. That raw connection with no preconception or social conditioning.  

This is what Bairn stands for and what we're here for. This mix - recorded on June 7th this summer at our launch stream for Fireworks Factory - this was the first time Kat had ever performed as Bairn so was a very real and unique moment to capture. 

Instantly inspired by their concept, Bairn's set then sealed the deal. So freeform and unpredictable and full of sudden twists and turns, there was no way we were going to leave our connection at a guest mix... We signed their debut EP It's You within weeks of this set. This is how the last hour of our Big Love takeover went down...

Hot on the heels of incendiary mixes from the likes of Lakeway, Pinks, Congo Natty, Winslow and Vxrgo, Fireworks Factory shut down the Fire Truck stage with this mind-blowing musical adventure of arsonist proportions

Pure rave flames from the stroke of midnight to 1am: this non-stop energy session carried strong themes of drum & bass, hardcore, hyperpop and many other flavours in between. 

Truly, it was a moment that we'll never forget. 

What makes it even more special is that this was Fireworks Factory's competition prize from him winning our Mixmas contest last December! 

Over the months that passed since that victory we've collaborated on many exciting projects, leading to the release of his debut EP on 1 More Thing - Breaking Gemstones / Can't Stand The Rain. 

He's also performed quite a few other sets for us, including a back to back with Lakeway at our birthday party and a Come B2B With Me session with NoDave (where he won the crown of being the only DJ to ever pull out a tune that NoDave couldn't find a mix for) 

This mix, however, is our favourite one so far. There's a really considered vibe and dynamic running the whole way through, creating space for all kinds of surprises and creative twists and turns. 

It's an awesome snapshot of Fireworks Factory as a DJ and also sheds a little light on his influences and musical loves. It also features a few unreleased tracks of his so keep your ears open... And watch out for them on 1 More Thing as we continue to collaborate and work together.
