First appearing in our inbox with a persistent flurry of interesting dubs, then smashing almost every episode of the Demo Drop series so far, causing a riot in the chat with every submission, Essex-based new talent Sonnet is the first artist to be signed by 1 More Thing through the Demo Drop... And we have A LOT of heavyweight dancefloor tracks of his to release in 2025! 

But first, a widescreen showcase of his sound, his influences and vibes as a DJ as he takes us through our paces by way of a killer selection of upfront cuts and many of his own persy IDs.

2024 was a busy year for Kidsonic.

Following the release of his debut album Finding Faith in late 2023, he’s since proceeded to slap us silly with a barrage of beats on an exciting range of imprints: Drumad, Beats In Mind, his own self-titled platform, Nymfo’s LFLF imprint and brand new label Mustard Music where he’s found a spiritual home and dropped some of his most impressive tracks to date.

Now with more releases locked for 2025, Kidsonic reflects over his best year to date and what he’s had to overcome. Autistic, born blind and now heavily visually impaired, Kidsonic's route up the ranks comes with its own unique challenges which he perpetually rises to with a calming and philosophical air and approach.

In his own words he celebrates his abilities rather than focus on disabilities. And he’s definitely achieved in tearing our HQ speakers into shreds with this cracking MIXMAS trip. A story told the classical 1210 way, this is a special vinyl only trip into a whole other side to the rising artist. By day, a mild mannered minimal crafstman. By night, a bad-ass wax wrangler who has the chops and confidence to try and blend Twist ‘Em Out and Mr Majestic. What’s more, he makes it work perfectly, too. Then Section comes along with the mix equivalent of a hard man uncle who rubs your head with his knuckles, grins at you, calls a c-bomb multiple times and tells you to behave yourself. Yeah it’s one of those ones.

For the final mix of our MIXMAS season, Kravitz goes old school. Not the usual go-to foundational old school, but a slightly younger old school where many of us overlap in terms of reference points and roots regardless of generations… The noughties. A time when D&B was in a wild state of flux, booming, shaking and tearing between two critical commercial points around 2000 – 2012.

It’s not a decade that’s celebrated as much as the 90s or cited as much as the 2010s in terms of its influence within the modern streaming/social media age. But it was a decade when some of the biggest names today emerged and blossomed and a time when some absolutely humungous anthems were crafted. Total Science’s Nosher, Zinc’s Creeper, Noisia’s Block Control, Un-Cut’s M.I.S.T, Bad Company’s Snowcat, Brookes Brothers Take Me Away… The list of heroic dancefloor headbutts from this era is endless and they’re pretty much all in Kravitz’s mix.

Next up on the 1 More Mix menu we hit a hearty new course. A hardgroove feast across the house music’s strongest flavours. Our chef? Say bon appetite to The Cooke. 

New Zealand born and raised Dylan Cooke caters a crazy tale. The story beings with a trip to escape the trappings and frustrations of being a commercial club resident DJ. A moment to reflect, press reset and get away from it all on a backpacking trip around Europe. It’s now a game-changing opportunity for him to develop a whole new creative chapter as DJ. 
 
Winner of the Back2Back DJ Battle in November last year, The Cooke’s high energy, multi-genre performances scored him the most fans during the unique contest and has now led to a G Shock Radio residency, a festival booking with Riot Noise and many other cool things lined up for 2025. Having arrived in London with no plans whatsoever, he’s now in London for the foreseeable.

1 More Mix 130 - The Cooke

Galvanizing over 40 years of friendship, over 20 years of music and touring together, no less than around five different aliases and countless musical inspirations from around the world, Tina Tokio is the zenith of Muadeep and FxFarmer’s art so far. 

Their expressions, ideas, passions and energy all wrapped up in a twisted bolt of tribalistic 140 fury.

It’s percussive, it’s full of surprises, it’s laced with intoxicating humanised elements. Cries, chants, shouts and grunts are all weaved intricately into tight pulsating patterns of toms, hangdrums, bongos and cowbells while necksnap breakbeats as the pair explore their shared sonic vision.

It’s a vision that can be dated back to the early 2000s when the pair of them (and another old friend Uwe) formed Funkanomics, a ghettofunk troupe who toured the world with a sound that was whipping parties into frenzies for years but hasn’t matured quite so well as other genres have.

Various iterations and aliases later, Patric Muadeep and Daniel FxFarmer have rekindled that groove with a much more sinister, deeper, hypnotic and technoid way. It’s a sound that’s already been supported by French culture connoisseurs Studio and long time underground champions Flexout. It’s a sound you can hear right here in this crucial mix.

Say hello to Soul.Crew. A rising duo from the south coast who came from hip-hop and are now cultivating a fine line of weighty, dancefloor-minded D&B, often with a strong focus on MCs. So far they’ve released on M Ocean, DeVice and now Grand Theft Audio.

So far Soul.Crew (AKA Dan & Dev) have released a track called Filth on the label. A high-grizzled, heavyweight slammer fronted by Genesis Elijah. 

Next week they will follow it up with a new track Poison Ivy. Featuring more vocal titans, Dread MC and Exo, Poison Ivy was first played publicly on Demo Drop... And very quickly signed by James Sola who was guesting on the show that episode.

Vio.let has got everybody on strings. Literally.  Fusing classical violin with drum & bass, she’s already got a reputation for pushing boundaries.  On stages, she's wowed crowds across the UK and Europe from Hospitality shows to major festival sets. Her classically trained sense of drama and suspense can also be felt on many productions thanks to collaborations with the likes of Fred V, Cliques, pyxis and many others. Now she's started her own line of releases with Worlds Apart; her debut release on Keeno Music.

Written with vocalist Lauren Paige , this track dives into grief, loss, and perseverance, wrapped up in beautiful string arrangements, heartfelt vocals, and Keeno’s production magic. It’s a track that feels like a journey—and you’ll want to come along for the ride. We caught up with Vio.let to chat about her path from classical stages to the dancefloor, how she blends live violin with D&B, and what’s next now that 2025’s shaping up to be a big one for her.

If you’ve been checking for drum & bass jungle since the 2000s then the name Social Security should definitely be familiar with you… 

First emerging around 2000-2001, brothers Moses (Child Support) and Inzajeano (Crisis Loan) Latif made a big noise with a gritty sound that would stir deep deep deeeeeep into the jungle melting pot. 

Named after the old benefits system in the UK (which pretty much anyone who came from working class background would have to rely on at points during the 80s and 90s) the community-minded duo’s sound was powerful, soulful and rolling with serious intent. It was a consistent signature throughout the 2000s and a decent chunk of the 2010s… And is now back for the 2020s. 

A defiant middle finger to the current (and scarily escalating) Cost Of Greed crisis, Social Security returns after taking a break to focus on other aspects of life, including an ongoing acting career. Now with Moses rolling solo at the helm, he continues with the work he and his brother started all those years ago. 

Fresh from dropping the hair-raising sci-fi odyssey Dimension X, last week, Social Security is ready to dish out another round of benefits for the scene at a time when we need them the most. We've hit the 140th edition of our mix series!!!! 

Say what?!?!

To mark this significant milestone we've called in some serious kindred spirits - C-Bo & Cuttah AKA Deep Tempo. 

Two music lovers who definitely come from a similar place in terms of how they support, celebrate and document the culture they love, C-Bo and Cuttah's Deep Tempo podcast has been one of the most consistent and solid platforms for dubstep and 140 related music across the board and across the generations. 

From its podcast roots their brand has grown to comprise a label, a zine, merch and a pretty intense DJ schedule. Listen to this mix and you'll hear just why they're booked for respected nights like Heavyweight and Deep Medi!
