After a brief hiatus due the pandemic, Russian label Minor Notes Recordings returns for their 7th release. During the first 6 releases they have gained a reputation as one of Russia's finest exports of house music to the world, introducing many us to the likes of Scruscru, Baltimore Chop and Lowres. However, after nurturing his own artists it's the turn of Guydee himself to shine and make a much-deserved debut on his own imprint. Over the last year Guy has taken some time out of releasing to rebuild his own sound and sharpen his production skills, now fresh out the studio he and has a full stack of new music to share with the world. First up is 'В стол EP', where Guydee presents 3 super deep compositions which include collages of organic sounds and original instruments by the man himself. Malta's deep house don Melchior Sultana is also drafted in on remix duty and provides a sub-aquatic flip of the lead track 'Svet'. Tom Bruce has long kept his nose to the club grindstone. A Sydney stalwart, T.B has worked tirelessly in his efforts to further the harbour city’s dance landscape. From steering his own label ship Start Local Records, to releasing records via clipp.art and Paradiso plus delivering mixes for online radio shows such for Balamii and Area 3000, it’s fair to say Tom’s been putting in work! 

Until recently, Tom had called Nottingham UK home. Over two years, he soaked up all there was to learn about how those in the Northern hemisphere navigate the rave. Now, back on home soil, the dude is spilling over with creativity and vigour. Welcome to ‘Cloudy Days Often Have The Best Sunsets’.

This optimistically titled EP certainly lives up to its name, gliding along like a puck on ice. Straight out of the gate is ‘Faux Personality’, a jolly bongo number with acidic licks and 80’s synth play. If you’re looking to break the world record for the longest light jogging distance, throw this on repeat. In addition, Dutchman and label friend HATT.D lathers on more acid with a tidy remix.

PREMIERE: Tom Bruce - Faux Personality (HATT.D Remix) [Gallery Recordings]

A jazz track that is heavily under the influence of psilocybin. There is no element of the track left unadulterated by the psychedelic juices flowing through this floor-filler. Driving and full of energy its hard to escape the infectious rhythm. A phat bass pops and distorts, a ghostly flute echoes and a rhythm section so complex it feels like a fever dream of snares, hi-hats and claps, pulled to your present consciousness.  This driving house track compiles elements of garage, jazz and an altered state of consiousness.

When we think about Austrian house, Demuja is likely to come top of mind, yet closely followed with a staple artist of the Viennese thriving underground scene: Felix B. Nowak. a.k.a. Jon Gravy. Jon kicked off his career quite early, starting to produce his first track at the age of 17 and has now been blessing us with quality music for approximately 10 years. He first developed strong connections with South African grooves and 70s soul music from his dad's vinyl collection, before getting inspired by house and techno pioneers such as Paul Johnson or Underground Resistance. Jon's productions are quite easy to spot: upbeat and groove-ridden house against a backdrop of driving and stinging basslines that you could find on labels like Neo Violence, Blaq Numbers or Rough Recordings. He is also known as the owner of the record label “Step Back Trax” and its event series (Super Motel 168) which has already welcomed lots of worldwide house names (Baltra, KETTAMA or Adryiano). Actually, nothing could currently stop him as he has just founded his second record label "Gravy Trax" and released his own album on it.

We all hope we will get to be dancing again soon this year, but for now, this one should definitely be enough: 60 minutes of both classy and dirty house vibes featuring jams from Lood, Palms Trax or Mogwaa. People, this is assuredly the only way to enter 2021 properly!

After an amazing first release, 10Questions ventures deeper into Italo territory with signing one of the scene’s longest running duo’s: ‘PBR Streetgang’. PBR has been known for big dancefloor tracks, whether it’s house or disco, they always deliver. This EP will surely add to this legacy.

The title track ‘Dayskipper’ sets the mood with it’s 707 drum programming and rolling Italo bassline. The track slowly progresses to show it’s dancefloor pedigree. A catchy synth hook combined with synth choir stabs drives the theme home. What makes this a standout track is that the hook is not an obvious one. The ominous chords are very well crafted and will cut through you like a knife through butter.

‘Dayskipper’ shares the A side with ‘Knockout’; a track that is both a tribute to the early history of house and a contemporary piece of music in one. The ‘Moog’ style bassline sets the mood for a playful approach but it’s the addition of the vocal hits and the piano hook that drives that theme home. Add a pinch of hip-house and you have the recipe for a good time.

On the third track (and a full side on the record) ‘Chi-Lite’ you can hear that PBR still knows how to get the most out of a house beat. The theme however is more a dreamy proto house track than anything else. The syncopated synth stabs set the perfect mood for the DX7 style bells that are played on top. PBR masterfully shift from floating moments to dancefloor energy within a matter of minutes.
