Cairo-based artist Zeina has been championing women in electronic music through her Unfamilar series of events around Europe and in her adopted base of Egypt. Since its inception, she has welcomed a diverse, yet dedicated list of artist that include Jane Fitz, Lola Haro, Laurine, Vlada, Karine, Julietta, and there are many more to come. If you find yourself in Cairo make sure and look her up wherever she may be performing, but there will be more than just these options to catch this well-travelled selector in action.

With so many influences at play, it is clear that Zeina operates on many different musical levels. This is also especially evident in her InSession mix for us where she moves through many shades and moods that encompass introspective house jams, more wigged-out jazzy moments and a brief stop-off in one of house music's most defining moments.

Very kindly recorded live on the night by @mucaromusic and given some mastering love by @alignrepeat, this is my opening set from the 2nd room at Vent for Mind Off. I really wanted to dig out lots of old deep and warm sounding records for this set and slowly build as people ventured into the room, so I spent a lot of time trying to pack my record bag with old favourites and others I've hardly played since getting them 10+ years ago! Those that have seen me play a lot in Manchester will likely recognise the odd 'Slagbat classic' in there so hopefully that'll bring back some good/questionable memories too. So pour yourself a brandy, turn on your lava lamp(s) and get come take a dip in the deep end.

Techno moves in cycles, trends come and go, but true character endures. FW25/26 captures that tension with 12 tracks from 12 artists, from rising talents to established names, each bringing a distinct voice to contemporary techno.

Marcel Dettmann sets a dark, slow-burning tone with This Is a Test, Peder Mannerfelt pushes boundaries on Alternate Current, and Force Reaction explores trippy terrain with Mysteries Unfolding. Sanna Mun and Dynamic Forces channel mid 90's Detroit grooves, while Section 6, Sonic Propaganda, and UFO95 deliver peak-time power. Conrad Van Orton, Jeroen Search, Kerrie, and Aleksi Perälä opens the compilation with hypnotic, emotive, and unmistakably unique sounds.

FW25/26 isn’t just a compilation, it’s a statement. A journey through contrasts, personality, and forward momentum.

We’re delighted to share a true collectors item of a mix; a 7 hour b2b from Jane Fitz & Carl H, recorded at Transmissions in Studio 94, London in December 2021.

Some live recordings need to be put out quickly before the music ages and the records become overplayed, but not this one. It could be from any time over the years as timeless-tune-after-sought-after-banger are built and blended with the kind of precision and flow that can only come from DJ’s like Jane and Carl. 

From the low-slung start spanning EBM and downtempo gems through to the tunnelling psychedelic crescendo, this is a true masterclass in how to build and pace a set… and it sounds just as incredible today as it did on the night.

The London-via-Bilbao DJ marks 15 years of Cartulis with two hours of punchy techno and electro, recorded live at FOLD.

When you think of London label and party Cartulis, dark, muscular electro and tough tech house spring to mind. But the name is more revealing than it first appears: in founder Unai Trotti's native Bilbao dialect, cartulis translates to "nerd." Like any labour of love, the project is driven by a deep, obsessive dedication, centred around sound, mood and community. 

Recorded at Cartulis' 15th anniversary party this autumn, RA.1017 captures why Trotti is such a compelling DJ. Playing only vinyl, he has a deft ability to balance functional club pressure with more leftfield selections, and as he outlines in his Q&A below, it comes from a belief in creative limitation, committing to a finite set of records and trusting instinct over abundance. 

Across the two hours, there are plenty of big, physical tracks built for the dance floor, but also some genuinely strange, confrontational stretches. Around the 15-minute mark, church bells ring out as a gothic female vocal looms overhead—David Lynch, if he needed an electro soundtrack. It's the kind of material you only hear at parties where dancers feel truly at ease, unafraid of the weird. That's Cartulis.

On 28th October, The Pickle Factory hosted a special extended set from Jane Fitz and Jade Seatle's Night Moves alias, whose eponymous nomadic London party Night Moves has long been close to our hearts. 

Their superb 4 hour+ session is the first in our new OSM Live series - a fitting way to begin.

TPF–002 comes from the first lady of The Pickle Factory, Jane Fitz. Jane has been pivotal in the evolution of Pickle. Her passion, integrity and deep knowledge of dance music informs everything we stand for, and we’re proud to continue her residency into a third year in 2019.

Fitzy’s mix is a live recording from our 3rd birthday in November, a remarkable night of music, and a very special party for all of us at Pickle. Jane closed the party 5am-8am, coming on as a secret guest after Donato Dozzy. As Jane said to us at the time, this was to be a unique peek at some of her most precious records. In her own words, the sort of tunes “that barely leave the house, they’re so special to me.”

As a document of the final hours of the best party we’ve ever thrown, this mix is priceless - there have been a few misty eyes in the office listening back. But more importantly, this is Jane at her very best - the UK’s finest DJ, showcasing a life’s work of collecting records. A mind-bending excursion through a kaleidoscope of deep, trippy, ravey sonic textures. A quite miraculous mix, that we’ve come back to time and again over the last few months. Now you can, too.
