For almost two decades Jeffrey has been a programmer in the underground cinemas of Amsterdam, describing himself as a 'cultural activist'. In this podcast he and Vanja explore diverse soundtracks to neglected and forgotten movies. When the use of music in modern cinema has become clichéd and standardized, perhaps it is better to turn to the abandoned past for inspiration. Therefore in this podcast-journey there is an emphasis on delving into uncharted territory—secret places of mystery and otherworldly alternatives. Jeffrey feels it's in these buried treasures that a hard-hitting counter-culture can be envisioned. During our discussions in between the music tracks there is also an attempt to create a different idea about how music can be used in movies, one where the music clashes against the image rather than melting together with it emotionally.

This selection of music soundtracks traverses many parts of the world, embracing directors like Andrzej Żuławski, Kenneth Anger, Marguerite Duras and Shuiji Tereyama... and features music by Jean Guérin, Andrzej Korzyński, Bernard Parmegiani, Wanda Warska and Toru Takemitsu among many others.

To wrap up our @Antinote-Records takeover this week, we found time to sit down with the big boss man, @Zaltan-Dance to discuss the current French music scene, mainstream boundaries and he takes up the age old discussion of which audio format is best (I think we already know the answer!!)

Having released "L'Île Sous l'Eau" with us only a short time ago we are very happy to have this here cochlea cockle from a man who very nearly went by the name ‘DJ Windsurfing Life’ and place it into the figurative bucket that is our Forecast series. Vague Imaginaires - as well as being an old and dear friend of ours - is an artist that we knew we absolutely had to work with way back when we began our mission to spread cultural Marxism/quantum mysticism through a relatively small, boutique record label and having had the feedback on his EP we’re very pleased that our intuition was a winner and had not been completely corrupted by the amount of lava lamp liquid we had been consuming. We feel the mix gives quite a lovely insight into the sorts of sounds that influence Vague Imaginaires’ creative machinations and pairs incredibly well with the outstanding levels of vitamin D currently pouring down on us, even more so if there’s a Negroni involved.
