A very important week is here for the Magic. A two-night Draft where Orlando currently holds the 25th, 46th, and 57th picks. Will they use all three? Do we see trades and/or cash considerations make an appearance? Decisions still need to be made on the team options for Moritz Wagner and Caleb Houstan. And then free agency begins the night of June 30th before a Paolo Banchero contract extension announcement occurs.

Orlando has some roster gaps to fill after the Desmond Bane trade. There’s still a need for a sixth man scorer, point guard bench help, and a look at the center position. So of the draft, trade, and free agency options available, which routes get taken?

175. Filling in Gaps; Draft Time

Paolo Banchero’s 5-year rookie max extension is now official. No surprise there. 

Contracts are being officially signed around the league with the moratorium period over. Jase Richardson and Noah Penda have signed and are preparing for Vegas Summer League. Tyus Jones and the returning Moritz Wagner have officially signed as well. Jamahl Mosley’s coaching staff should be stronger as well with the additions of Joe Prunty and God Shammgod. 

Things are looking promising with the Magic. The roster currently stands at 14 players. Will it remain that way going into the season, or is Jeff Weltman not done yet?

179. Summer League ends, EuroBasket prep begins

The Magic are going to be playing two regular season NBA games as part of the Global Games series in January. A home game at the Uber Arena in Berlin, Germany, which is Franz and Moritz Wagner’s backyard, and an away game at the O2 Arena in London, England. Orlando will be playing the Memphis Grizzlies in both meetings. It’s an Alex Martins dream come true. FIBA friendlies are also happening this week with the buildup towards late August and the start of EuroBasket. Get your VPNs if you want to watch Franz, Tristan Da Silva, and Goga Bitadze before August 27th.

182. Magic Focused EuroBasket 2025 Preview

The EuroBasket 2025 Round of 16 knockout stage is happening this weekend. Franz Wagner and Tristan da Silva enter their matchup with Portugal on Saturday an undefeated 5-0. Goga Bitadze and Georgia sneak in and will face France on Sunday. The NBA unveiled a new All-Star weekend format. Dwight Howard goes into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame on Saturday night. Will Shaquille O’Neal play nice?

183. EuroBasket Knockout Begins; Another ASG Format; Will Shaq Play Nice?

We’re on to the EuroBasket 2025 quarterfinals. Guess what? Both Germany and Georgia will be playing in it. Franz Wagner led the way against Portugal in what was a tight game until midway through the fourth as Tristan da Silva hit daggers. With Serbia being eliminated, the door for gold is open for Germany. Georgia upset France. Despite having a tumultuous game, Goga Bitadze made critical plays in crunch time in the win.

184. Goga Upsets France; Gold Door Open for Germany

Goga Bitadze and Georgia crashed out of EuroBasket, losing to Finland in the quarterfinals. It ends a historic run for that nation. Meanwhile, Franz Wagner just made his 4th consecutive FIBA tournament semifinal, carrying Germany to a win over Luka Doncic’s Slovenia. Franz was Germany’s best player again, but Tristan da Silva’s 3rd quarter buzzer beating halfcourt heave was the spark that swung the game towards their way. Germany will face Finland in the semifinals on Friday.

185. Franz Carries Germany; Goga Hits Wall

At 24 years old, Franz Wagner is now a FIBA World Cup as well as EuroBasket champion. Unlike two years ago, his brother Mo Wagner couldn’t be on the court with him. At 24 years old, Tristan da Silva in his first senior national team tournament is a champion. Tristan got to celebrate on the bench with his brother Oscar as Germany took down Turkey 88-83 to win EuroBasket 2025 in what was a fantastic final in Riga, Latvia. It capped off great experiences for both Magic players, as we’re 2 weeks away from Orlando Magic training camp.
