Track three added to the iMAKE GOLD compliation album! ✨️

This joint started in 2021. I first heard C-Red rhyme from #WhiteCoatWednesdays on her IG. Every other day I tuned in to hear her rhyme - pen game, delivery, spirit, voice - Dope! One day I showed her some love on a post and she hit me back like "we should work!" YES! I knew we could make something cold. A little after I connected with C-Red, I was watching this documentary about the history of Sugarcane and the transatlantic slave trade. The seriousness of the documentary, inspired the feel of the beat when I was creating. Raw, serious, and it also reminded me of some ol' mid- 90s Kool G Rap sound. I could hear C-Red's voice and flow complimenting the beat, so I sent the idea to her. YO! When I first heard what she sent back, I played it like 10 times back to back.

I met SHAD at DJ Jazzy Jeff’s Playlist Retreat (real dope guy!). I was familiar with his music before and loved how he rhymed. SHAD is always posting freestyles on Instagram of him just rhyming over instrumentals. There was this one verse he wrote over Kardinal Offishall's "Ol' Killin Time" beat that inspired me. While listening to SHAD's effortless flow and how he described and displayed dope emceeing simultaneously, I heard the whole beat in my head immediately. I started building the drums first, then listened to his vocals over just the drum track. Chopped up a sample then sent him a demo. SHAD loved it and wanted to recut his vocals to the beat. The track that you hear now became the first joint we ever made together —which led to me producing SHAD's "REEL SPEAKERS EP".

July 2024, last year,
We lost Sonya Massey to the hands of the police.
Amidst processing her tragic killing, I was building with my brother Tall Black Guy about expressing ourselves more in the moment as artists and challenging ourselves. TBG challenged me to make a beat using 3 James Brown records because I never sampled him before. It was mostly because I heard soo many classic Hiphop and R&B records that flipped James Brown since the 80s.


✂️ Challenge accepted.

My aim was to chop those records to fit how I was feeling about Sonya Massey's story in that moment. TBG put me up on Jermaine Holmes after sharing some work he did with him. I wasn't familiar with Jermaine's work at the time, but I knew he had an ill voice and that he sang background for D'Angelo on the Black Messiah tour. Days after I made this beat, Jermaine posted he was open to do features on his IG. I sent this beat to him, without even mentioning what inspired it.

KT : "Man I think you could do something powerful to this joint. Something the people really need to hear in these crazy days."

I, Ced "Now Or Later" [14KT Rmx] (feat. Stopha Vasquez) Prod. By 14KT

Ypsilanti, Michigan’s own golden child, Kendall Tucker, bka 14KT, is a multi-talented Artist/Producer/DJ. His musical roots came from growing up singing in the church choir. It was there and by studying his parent’s jazz and soul records, along with piano and upright bass lessons, Kendall learned the fundamentals of music.

14KT got his start as 1/7th of this mighty Hip-hop collective, The Athletic Mic League. He started out as an emcee, inspired by the sounds of Wu-Tang Clan, Nas, Gangstarr, A Tribe Called Quest and Outkast. Finding it hard to get instrumental beats, KT started using the “Pause/Play/Record” method, by looping breaks on cassette tapes so the crew could rap over them. 

14KT’s solo career began in 2008. After a rich history with AML, he entered and won his first beat battle competition, in Red Bull Big Tune Detroit. Later that year, he released his debut instrumental LP, “The Golden Hour [Soundtrack].” The Golden Hour made its mark appearing on many year-end “top albums” lists. Okayplayer said “this is the sort of striking project that can singlehandedly create an artists following.” And so it did.

14KT is the last Big Tune national champion, which he went on to win in 2010.
He’s worked with the likes of Aloe Blacc, Black Milk, Bun B, Danny Brown, Elzhi, Jay Electronica, JMSN, Masta Ace, Mayer Hawthorne, Legendary Motown Funk Brothers guitarist Dennis Coffey and many others. His music was featured in the DVD for Michael Rapaport’s A Tribe Called Quest documentary, “Beats, Rhymes, & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest.” Live, he’s rocked with the Stones Throw crew, at Low End Theory, SXSW, on tour with Mayer Hawthorne, Slum Village, and across the U.S., Canada, Europe and Australia.

To date, 14KT has released seven solo albums, as well as his collaborative Hip-hop album, "Takin Ls" with emcee Ozay Moore,  R&B/Soul album, “Saturn Return” with singer/songwriter AB, and “The Big Knock”, together with Mayer Hawthorne as the “Beat Wave” group Jaded Incorporated [Universal Republic/Casablanca Records]. Jaded Incorporated was born out of their mutual adoration for the Post-Punk and New Wave music of the early 1980′s, and Ghettotech music in the 90′s Detroit scene.

14KT is currently revving up to release another duo collaboration album with Michigan rapper Ro Spit, entitled "RSXGLD" to be released in 2017.
