Holidays on secluded beaches; long hikes up a mountain to catch the sunset; an unforgettable meal at a restaurant on the square: her preferred means of escaping reality had become impossible over the last year. Now she relied on her imagination to whisk her away. She closed her eyes and pictured herself somewhere free from the pressures of daily life; the waves gently lapping at her feet, the wind rustling her hair and the sun streaming down on her face.

For his debut release on Loose Fit Records, Leipzig-based producer Planetary Secrets explores themes of escapism, translating his personal take on what escaping reality means to him. Conjuring up fantastical feelings of nostalgia and imagined worlds throughout, the opener, 90s rave-inspired 'Guatemala Dreams', transports listeners into dense jungle, while B-side, 'Burning Fist', is a love letter to vintage video games, specifically Tekken. These two original cuts are backed up by remixes from Lobster Theremin affiliate Pépe and Breaka Recordings boss, Breaka.

Written between 2020-2021, “Cerulean” is a ten-track album which delves into the isolation of the emotion of blue. The tracks flow between UK genres, combining sliced breaks, emotive melodic synths and deep pulsating low end to audibly display Jeigo’s intricate and melancholic production qualities. The album was produced in his former family home in South West London during the pandemic and finished in his home for the last two years in Peckham. Each track sits on the border of home listening and club functionality, with essences of crying on the dance floor euphoria, to those blissful or challenging moments alone.

After a fantastic year of quality releases featuring the likes of Otik, Cameo Blush, Demuja, Nikki Nair and Ivy Lab, legendary Australian label Future Classic now closes its 2023 with a compilation consisting of its heaviest hitters from the past year.

Among its twelve tracks sit two fresh new remixes and an original from the emerging Japanese artist Stones Taro. The first remix is by Memphis LK, who reimagines Sycco’s pop-infused, vocal-laced breakbeat track ‘Ripple’ to an evocative garage number. She is then followed by a DJ Slugo remix of Martyn Bootyspoon’s ‘These Nike Shox’. The ghetto house pioneer imbues an already pumping track with juking, boundless grooves, amplifying it for the dance to great effect.

“I loved 'Ripple' as soon as I heard it, what jumped out to me particularly was how much colour and personality the main synth sound has. I had so much fun chopping and creating my own version of that sound. I wanted to create a dirty crunchy breakbeat version of the track that still kept the playful and emotional energy of the original.” - Memphis LK

Stones Taro then provides us with ‘Final Rule’, fusing raw bass, hypnotic vocal snippets and gorgeous melodic soundscapes into a potent, psychedelic dancefloor trip carefully laid over a garage shuffle. Following years of growing global talent like Flume, Flight Facilities, and the late SOPHIE, this compilation shows us a glimpse of Future Classic’s promising future in the club.

Matching his signature melodic futurism with enduring club music structures, Pev brings the Pulse series to a natural conclusion with the Pulse Phase EP. On this third release he underlines the broader approach to tempos and styles he’s taken across this latest period of his output, soon to be coalesced into a new live set. 

If there’s been a nostalgic streak detectable amongst the crisp modernism of the Pulse series, it comes through clearer than ever in the looped-up house jack and starry-eyed techno synth hooks of ‘Pulse IX’. ‘Pulse TEN’ pares back for a lean soundsystem workout driven by a strafing arp and fractured drums while ‘Pulse XI’ revisits 90s bleep techno with a deep, dubby intention. ‘Pulse XII’ completes the picture capturing the skeletal pressure of 2-step at its most slender and deadly.

There’s never a sense of over-familiarity — the exacting angles of the drums and alien hue of the synths maintain Pev’s distinctive sound first and foremost. But this series has also been an opportunity to hear some of his musical DNA more explicitly than before, cast in universal rave motifs propelled by the unrelenting pursuit of new forms for the dance.

Here is my first self release on a new personal label called ‘Heart Somersault’. 

I'm using this as a way to share my tracks that are more hard hitting/anthemic, and geared towards the club. 

I've been testing these all over in shows for the last year, and they had a real impact on my recent tours. 

The approach here is DJ friendly, underpinned by feelings of euphoria that make the heart spin. Textural Techno!

Slated for a vinyl only release initially, Dusky invite Hodge and Jerome Hill to remix the rolling techno of “Parakeet Feet’ from their recent ‘Ordinary World EP’.

Part of the Livity Sound collective, Bristol’s Hodge has been responsible for some of the most fresh and leftfield UK techno excursions in the past year or so. Focussing on the original’s ‘talk to me’ sample, Hodge drops a dark, twisted techno banger in his unique style.

On the flip, underground legend Jerome Hill cranks out a raw, ravey acid house work out that builds and builds with a dynamic surge of screaming, layered 303s.
