The morning will consist of taking shelter, shuffling through every possible record shop I can find towards the destination. After almost four hours, with wet hair and fingers dirty from digging, I see the Brooklyn Bridge from a bench with a rainbow in the background. It has stopped raining. I smile, welcome holiday."

Irina Kotik (@irina-kotik) has been actively pushing the deep sound through her music platform, Delayed (@itsdelayed). Delayed aims to connect the New York underground scene with talent worldwide and present what is exciting in underground electronic music. Apart from the enormous support she is offering to the scene, she has joined musical muscles with her partner Gilles Wasserman in a duo known as Moon Patrol, creating breathtaking arrangements and being released on such labels as Huinali Recordings and On Board Music.

This is a live recording, captured at Ego club in Düsseldorf, June 5 1999.  The music has been created with a self written step sequencer, the PX-18, controlling  a basic sample player and effects engine, all done in MaxMSP, running on a Powerbook G3. The step sequencer had some unique features, e.g. the ability to switch patterns independently in each track, which later became an important part of a certain music software.

I found the recording on a backup disk today. It has not been edited or mastered. During the first 20 minutes of the set, and before the 'encore' the Monolake CD 'Gobi' is playing in the background.

The deep, immersive echo chamber that sits at the centre of DeepChord’s signature work with Echospace may appear inspired by the genre-defining work of first-wave dub-technoists that appeared on the Chain Reaction label in the mid to late 90s. But it’s also work that’s quintessentially building upon the Detroit scene where it was born, and that divine marriage of roots and vision makes the work of Rod Modell and Steve Hitchell at once so highly considered, so timeless, and so pertinent. The distinguishing feature of the duo’s sound is its ability and willingness to stand still; whereas much of dub techno attempts to propel the listener forward in either a lover’s rock groove or the cushioned reverb of a driving beat, DeepChord’s synth-driven analog warmth trades not only in static ambience but also propulsive design. Their set at Métropolis in 2011 was nothing short of enveloping and transcendent.

Marco Shuttle has been a hugely prominent figure in the Italian techno scene over the last decade. He pushes an abstract, hypnotic sound that often draws close comparisons with the legendary @donato-dozzy. He’s released sublime records on Dozzy and Neel’s label @spaziodisponibile, @thebunkerny and his own fantastic Eerie imprint, who have just released a remix package of his classic ‘Vox Attitude’ featuring @atom_tm and @pessimist.
