It's hard to believe it's been over a year since the last secondnature party in Seattle. It feels simultaneously as if it's been many years, and no time at all. Lost in the fog of pandemic timelessness, it's easy to forget that it was once normal for us to commune in sweaty togetherness in dark basements and fogged out nightclubs. 

The second volume of our secondnature & friends series brings together contributions from some of our close friends and collaborators who we weren't able to host on the first go around. We've shared dance floors and DJ booths with all of them, and if we can't be together IRL, we're happy we can at least be together URL. This compilation is a statement of intent that we will see and share space with each other, and with all of you, again soon. Stay safe and healthy!

For the third stop of our Huacast series we are fortunate to get a peek into the record bag of CHENG NWSH @chengnwsh . 
As co-founder of event series and record label Awkwardly Social @awkscl he has become an important audible part of the Berlin underground with regular shows on HÖR and THF Radio. 
For this mix the guanxi master dug out some of his groovier and melodious b-sides and blended them beyond genre restrictions (exactly how we love it).

Over the past few years, LCP has been steadily releasing ultra-high grade deep and leftfield dnb, ambient and techno on his label, @relationreset - including artists such as Owl, Dyl & DB1, Simstah, Barefoot and many others. There's also the Inhmost LP coming out on re:st soon and it's sounding STUNNING - worth a listen for sure. It's a total pleasure to have him on the show and he's sent a mix filled with textured goodies and grooves 🙂 If you like what you hear you can find his monthly radio show on @radiorabe 

This show also comes out around the same time Gabriel Hops had a track released on a VA on On Board, alongside tracks and remixes from Oreste, Aucuba Replica, Shaded Explorer, Merino, Eschate, Polygonia, Vand, Absis, Laura BCR, Estrato Aurora and others. Lui Mafuta presents This Ain’t Jazz, a boundary-pushing new EP that fuses live musicianship
with electronic sensibility - an exploration of jazz influence through a deeply personal and
collaborative lens. 

The release is available on digital platforms and as a limited vinyl edition.

At the heart of This ain’t Jazz is a long gestating idea: to bridge electronic music with an
organic, band oriented aesthetic. Lui Mafuta reunited with four longtime friends and
collaborators: Paul Janoschka, Felix Roos, Jonas Esser and Benedikt Jäckle - who all studied
music together in Mannheim before scattering across the globe. Under the loose collective
named Weiller, they came together once again to create a sound that lives between genres.

The EP is a globe spanning production. Piano was recorded on Paul Janoschka’s Steinway in
his Frankfurt apartment; trumpet and clarinet were tracked in a rural French studio with Felix
Roos; drums came from New York via Jonas Esser; and saxophone was laid down in Lui’s own
studio in Mannheim alongside Benedikt Jäckle. All elements were finally assembled and
shaped into a cohesive vision back in Mannheim.

“There’s less synth work on this one than usual,” Lui says. “Most of the textures come from
the instruments themselves and a lot of sample mangling. I wanted it to feel raw, human and
alive.”
Despite its title, This Ain’t Jazz is a love letter to jazz’s influence. “I called it that just to be
safe,” Lui jokes. “It isn’t jazz but it’s coming from that space.” The project also serves as a
reconnection to his roots: two of the four featured musicians are teenage friends from his
earliest days making music.

This weeks episode also containt emotional content, it also looks like that deep and dubby house sound that emerged from the US in the early 90's has now started to resurface but with a definite UK twist. The man like Adam Pits morphing sounds and genres with ease and pushing things forwards nicely with his new one on XKALAY. Jonno & Tommo from the Ornate stable choosing to incorporate more of the aforementioned sound into their forthcoming release and then as if that wasn't enough they rope in 2 of the finest in Brawther & Andres for the remixes, pure heat!  
 The Australian connection runs deep, Timo Deeprhythms and cohort Steffan who co run Coymix Ltd and Timo's Echocentric dropping bombs from both labels in this show.  Depth & Weight's head honcho delves into the psyche and brigs us a spoken word masterpiece that informs us about the magical properties of the mushroom, gwarn Leee!
  Bufo Bufo has a hand in a couple of numbers, him n partner Corporeal Face team up on their Ritual Poison imprint as Escape Earth for the breakbeat pressure and also more of that UK dubby houseyness with a solo outing, not to be missed.  Kessler, MOY, Tys and Konerytmi also providing the atmospherics.  Take the plunge!
