It’s been over two years since a 140 Single entered the free download series on the label, as fresh talent T!M joins the ranks with a flip of M.I.K’s ‘Ice Rink’. Cult hero of the Grime scene and the Family Tree member first released the vocal in 2014, and could be heard far and wide from the scenes top selectors, from radios to the dance. Now 9 years later, it’s had the Bristolian treatment with the young producer breathing new life into a classic of the 2010’s Grime era.

21 year old T!M started producing around two years ago and only released for the first time in August this year. Key influences such as Disclosure, MPH and Coki signpost his diverse taste for electronic music, which have lead to an accelerated learning curve and is already helping him carve out his own sound.  

With less than 6 months under his belt of releasing music he’s already played a number of venues around Bristol, released music on the likes of Deeprot, and had his music played at major UK festivals and leading underground radio stations such as Boomtown, Kendal Calling, Rinse FM and Reprezent.  

His debut release amassed 60,000 streams and since then has gone on to gather support from DRIAA, Danny Rankin, Saint Ludo and DJ Jackum leading him to be picked up by 1Forty, making it the perfect way to tee up 2024.

The first release of 2024 sees the return of Sketchi, 18 months after he brought the first official Dubstep single for the label ‘Osami’. He kicks off 1Forty’s year with a high octane Dubstep/Grime hybrid take of Flowdans infamous ‘Shell A Verse’ acapella that the ex Roll Deep member made available on Bandcamp in 2018, and has since seen new heights hit with Sammy Virji’s UKG Remix in 2023.

1Forty has featured a selection of artists on the Label from its home in Leeds and Sketchi is part of those very grassroots. Starting off his journey learning to mix and produce at the age of 14, growing up in the same area of Leeds a musical relationship was born with Mikey B thanks to their shared love for UK Bass music.

Taking inspiration from the early era of Grime and Dubstep along with the artists he follows across the bass music spectrum that have such a strong focus on low end sound design such as My Nu Leng, Taiki Nulight, S.P.Y, Dimension, Joker and Enigma Dubz, it is yet again on show here.

Doc Zee returns to the label some 5 years since his last release, to put the cherry on the top of that release back in 2018. A VIP of his funky flip of Wiley’s eski-classic ‘Colder’. The original released back in 2006 as part of the ‘Eskiboy Da 2nd Phaze’ Mixtape. The bootleg in 2018 and subsequent VIP were given a name change ‘They Don’t Know’ due to the additional sampling taken from early Grime raves.

Starting out DJing from a very young age and jumping into production at the age of 16, despite never taking it seriously at the time it set him up for a future in music. Attending university to study music production in 2014 the music artistry started to flow. Since then he has released on a multitude of labels including fellow signee Ali Mck’s label Articulate Sound, My Nu Lengs label Maraki Records, Hyphos label Manuka and the legendary Four40 Records out of Birmingham to name a few. The Suffolk based producer has gathered support from My Nu Leng, Skepsis, Distro, Marcus Nasty, Murder He Wrote, TC4 & loads more.

The original version of bootleg ‘They Don’t Know’ saw huge support and was premiered on BBC Radio 1 on Toddla T's Show back on the 8th November 2018, with the likes of JME spitting over it two years later in 2020.

Yancey makes his debut on the label by taking Yizzy back to his 140 roots with a gritty Dubstep flip of his announcement to the Drill & UK Rap scene with ’Blue Freestyle’ that was first released in 2021.

Born and raised in New Zealand & now residing in Bristol, Yancey has built a name for himself in his homeland's underground music scene & beyond, known for his eclectic sound & unique performance style drawing inspiration from the rich history of hip-hop, jungle/drum & bass & their many contemporary offshoots. His music has been released & featured by notable labels including Noisia Radio, Quality Goods Records, & Sony Music NZ, played on Rinse FM, BBC Radio 1 & regularly on GeorgeFM in his home country, & supported by the likes of Tsuruda, Cesco, Klinical & Sepia. This notoriety has led him to perform at renowned showcases for the likes of 1985 Music, SWU:FM & Redbull.

9TRANE makes his return to 1Forty some 4 years after his last release alongside Logan on ‘Evil Side’. Having been part of the Label since Day 1 when he laid down a statement of intent with lead track ‘Compute Riddim’ Ft Killa P & Badness on the debut release when the Label arm was formed - 1FGRM001. We couldn’t be happier to welcome him back with his first track to enter our Single’s Free DL series with a UKG take of Danny Weeds iconic ‘Salt Beef’, one of 9TRANES favourite Grime instrumentals of all time from the producer and member of Roll Deep.

9TRANE’s rich history with 1Forty is woven with his unique trademark sound yet versatile approach including ‘Assault’ on 1FGRM002, and ‘Appletize’ which made ripples throughout the scene. Toddla T latched onto the Norwich talent through these releases and gained regular support on his show on BBC Radio 1 over a number of years before his exit from the station. 1Forty’s mainstay also tinkered with some UK Funky collabing with Arridim now also known as Criticals' Particle for ‘Plazma’ and the follow up ‘Plazma VIP’ both still receiving regular plays some 5 years later.

Making up 1⁄6 of Tremor Music Management, Sammy Virji has firmly imprinted his distinctive sound into the UK Bass and Garage scenes, particularly over the past year. With support from Holy Goof, TQD, TS7 and many more, he has landed himself regular DJ sets at renowned clubs and events across the country including Printworks (London), Tank (Sheffield), his residency at World Headquarters (Newcastle) as well as being welcomed onto Chris Lorenzo’s Bass Mentality Tour.

His releases with Chip Butty Records & Off Me Nut Records really put him on the map and has since amassed hundreds of thousands of plays thus leading him to sign with UAA Agency.. The Teeside based producer recently announced his ‘Tremor Presents: Sammy Virji Show’ on the third Friday of every month from 11pm-1am on Reprezent Radio. Sammy’s reputation is only set to continue growing in the coming months with appearances coming up at the likes of South West Four Festival and his debut 1Forty release on the way.

The first track on 1FFEM001 is the rising star of experimental electronic grime and dubstep music, L U C Y.

The Bristol born producer now based in London has been producing for 6 years and in that time has honed her unique sound and stamped her authority across the underground and is recognised across different scenes for her original electronic sound. Having played at Bandulu, Fabric & Motion to name a few as well as Keep Hush apperances she is also on the opening night line-up for 13 Weeks of Flava D at XOYO alongside Flava D, Skepsis & Sharda. She’s supported artists such as Swamp 81 boss Loefah, Bandulu’s Khan & Neek and Hi5 & Boofy as well as Murlo. The Bandulu crew have been supporting her music regularly.

With releases on Trapdoor, Astral Black and Femme Culture she also won 2017 the South-West heats of Red Bull’s Riddim Rally in 2017 as well as competing earlier this year in the Beat Boss Qualifiers and hosted various music workshops for Red Bull, Apple and Saffron Records.

Nina Wilde has been putting in the work for the Midlands for over 10 years. Based in Wolverhampton she started DJ’ing in 2000 and jumped into production in 2004. Over her career she has played up and down the country and overseas in the likes of Norway but recent highlights include BoomTown, Beatherder and a number of appearances in Sheffield at the likes of Tank & The Night Kitchen. Releases have spanned across Champion’s Formula Records, FooR’s Yosh, Saucy Records, Hot Cakes & loads more.

DJ Q highlighted Nina as one to watch in his interview with Fabric in 2017 and its not hard to see why. As well as her long list of reputable labels she has released on she has gathered support from Herve, TS7, Kissy Sellout, Mike Delinquent and My Nu Leng who used one of her tracks on their Fabric Live promo mix. Marcus Nasty has also heavily supported her through playing her music on his radio show on Rinse FM as well as welcoming her for on their for a Guest Mix.

Whilst working on the track for this project she was on the hunt for some vocal stabs which she shouted Champagne Bubbler for. He sent a full vocal over which he recently wrapped up and after hearing it Nina decided to use the full version on the track.

Bamz, the 22 year old programmer/producer & DJ hailing from South-West London. With a love for music from as young as 6 beatboxing before jumping into production at the age of 10 it seems music is ingested in her DNA. Pursuing various musical ventures through secondary school soon after leaving she met rapper - Nadia Rose. 5 years later she now has the privilege of being Nadia’s right hander both in the studio and as a DJ spinning for her at major UK Festivals such as Wireless, Glastonbury, Love Saves The Day, Bestival as well as international appearances at Sweden, Ibiza & Brazil where they performed at the 2016 Olympics.

The last couple of years has seen her pursue her own productions as well as assisting Nadia focusing specifically on Funky House. She hosted her own show on Radar Radio until recently before dropping her long awaited self released Buggin’ EP on Bandcamp which received a huge reception. Flexy shows her raw talent and various influences from different genres she has been following over both her younger and teenage years.

The final track on the all female release comes from K Minor. Based across the Thames from Bamz in North West London she started producing in 2013. Although playing instruments from a young age of 8 including piano and guitar gave her a real understanding for music theory. Having also hosted workshops for Native Instruments and Red Bull on electronic music production.

Since taking up producing more seriously in the last 4 years she has been self releasing her own UK Garage music with support coming from DJ Cartier, Mike Delinquent, Marcus Nasty as well as a feature from Complex UK. Funnily enough it was the Prince of UKG himself Conducta who recommended K Minor for this release after coming up short on our hunt for a female UKG producer.

For the next Single on the Label 1Forty welcomes some homegrown Leeds talent in the form of Vital Techniques & Dialect, they link up once again taking one of the oldest Grime Instrumentals in the book and flipping it into a 2 step heater.

Brothers Antony and Liam have been producing all things Grime, Garage and Bass since 2007. Vital Techniques and their Record Label Second To None Music was established in 2010. After a couple of years grafting on the Leeds circuit they earned their stripes playing for the likes of Jungle Jam and Boombox Circus leading to support billing for the UKs biggest promoters - Detonate. Year on year each release has boosted their reputation which has seen them become one of Outlooks go to bookings, having played the festival 8 years running including playing the Main Stage, as well as Room 1 back home at Fabric for the Outlook Launch Party. Although they have become notorious up and down the UK supporting major UK artists such as Chase & Status, Skepta, Kano, Ms Dynamite and Preditah they’ve also played a number of headline shows, both here and across Europe in Amsterdam, Budapest, Lyon and Prague.

With a discography spanning nearly a decade, aside from their own Label they have released with Benny Page’s imprint Dub Shotta, Mungos Hi Fi’s Scotch Bonnet, as well as Four40, Sleeping Is Cheatin, Hot Cakes & more earning support from a vast majority of artists in the underground, past and present such as Benga, Skream and Hatcha to the likes of Logan Sama, DJ EZ, Majestic and Holy Goof. They also receive regular support across 1Xtra, Kiss FM, Rinse & Reprezent. With strong roots to the underground they’ve worked with Jungle royalty - General Levy as well as fellow 1Forty artist Killa P. Other names they have worked with include Devilman, Lady Chann, Dread MC and P Solja.

Often looking to work with fellow Leeds artists Dialect has been one of their go to MC’s for some time now, and in the running up to his clash with Jafro on Lord Of The Mics 8, the works haven’t stopped running.
