After the huge success of Honey Riddim alongside Snowy in the spring, 1FFNG004 sees the return of Murder He Wrote under very different circumstances. Having being one of the leading names in the UK Funky scene in recent years Murder He Wrote has served up his first ever vocal UKG release with one of the stand out MCs of 2019 - Logan.

With influences spanning UKG, Hip-Hop, Dancehall and Drum & Bass, MHW is one of the most distinctive producers in the UK’s fertile bass scene. His original productions have seen him not just make himself right at home on Roska Kicks And Snares but his prolific remix schedule has taken in official reworks that have released across the likes of Black Butter, Universal and Skrillex’s NEST imprint. The last couple of years have seen performances in China, Australia and Canada whilst maintaining a healthy schedule across the UK and Europe, shows and festivals alike. Regular appearances on the airwaves included Guest Mix’s and shows on Rinse FM and NTS since, not to forget BBC Radio 1 where Toddla T named him as one of his Freshman 2017 alongside AJ Tracey and Nadia Rose. This year has seen MHW on remix duties once again for various labels as well as a release on his own imprint - Rhythm Athletic, a release on Swing Ting with MC Fox and of course one of the stand out tracks this year in the UK Funky scene - ‘Honey Riddim’ alongside Snowy. This lead to being invited back to BBC Radio 1 in August to do Annie Nightingales ‘Quest Mix’. MHW already has collabs lined up with NYTA and MC Fox and a third Australia & New Zealand Tour lined up for 2020.

The last couple of years have seen a wealth of new talent rear its head in the Grime scene. A group that is often referred to as the next generation of Grime. One of those names is Logan, the North West Londoner started producing and MCing in 2002. Music took a backseat going into his teens as he was one of the best track athletes in his UK age group going into 2014 before injury struck which saw his future in sports derailed. 2016 saw him brush himself down and pick music back up vocaling tracks and rolling through to radio through much of 2017/18 which really saw him start to make a name for himself. It is 2019 that has really seen Logan come into his own though as both an artist and an MC, being picked up for LOTM8 by Jammer paired with a string of high profile releases making him without doubt one the most versatile names of the next generation. With releases across MoreTime Records, with Kouslin on Durkle Disco and Idris Elba’s Yardie Mixtape respectively says all you need to know. There is also honourable mentions for tracks ‘Like Me’ with Treble Clef and ‘Ready Fi Di War’ with Trends both of which gained significant traction across the BBC, Rinse & Reprezent also. Making himself a Grime Originals mainstay and being one of the most active names at Outlook Festival shelling down boat parties and stages alike throughout the week, December see’s Logan round off a stellar year with ‘Worthwhile’, using one of his trademark ad-libs to make a sub-low UKG banger.

Murder He Wrote x Logan - Worthwhile

‘What You Gonna Do’ sees Hamdi make his return to 1Forty for the first time since the birth of the label two and a half years ago on 1FGRM001. This time around however its the first time stepping in the vocal booth with it being his first ever vocal release as an artist. That aside it’s one big Brighton link up with three artists from the south coast coming together for a modern day funky classic.

Being one of grime’s shining lights in 2018, Razor made 2019 his year with a work rate even Killa P would be proud of. Becoming famed for his high energy presence, electric live performance and undoubtable top grade consistency. In recent times, Razor has sped to the top of the grime scene, being one of the most exciting vocalists to hit the airwaves and main stages, racking up an untouchable number of radio hours and live performances around the UK. These performances include a run of high profile livestream appearances on platforms such as Just Jam and Keep Hush, along with a stand out segment at Wiley’s Birthday Bash, catapulting him drastically forward, and much like Logan, Razor gained a substantial number of new fans at Outlook Festival, doing between 1 and 2 performances each day of the festival tearing down stages and boat parties alike.

Pairing up with Razor on the vocal is fellow Southpoint artist Hamdi. Growing up listening to a lot of Grime and Dubstep it’s not hard to see the path he's taken firstly as a producer and secondly as an MC. In the last 12 months the Oxford born 21 year old has gone on to release his own series of freestyle videos entitled ‘Bars’ all of which have amassed tens of thousands of views across social media whilst still having the likes of Novelist, Prez T, Manga and a number of other artists regularly spitting over his beats on radio sets and gaining support on his music from the likes of EZ, My Nu Leng, Flava D, Sir Spyro, Spooky, Conducta, Sicaria Sound and more. Only last month Hamdi was drawing wheel ups from Plastician on deck alongside Razor on mic and it’s not often in this generation you see an artist be as strong with the mic as on the buttons, that being said we may have another Jammz on our hands.

The third and final part of this track sees Bristol based Retrospect churn out a heavily grime influenced funky track that resonates with the 2007-2009 UK Funky sound. Taking inspiration from the likes of Sir Spyro, Champion, Roska and Jook the Brighton born DJ & Producer has been making 128-160bpm tracks for 3 years putting out music on the likes of Nottingham’s Tumble Audio and Articulate respectively both focusing on underground Bass, Grime & Funky. Having played at a number of Brighton and Bristols most reputable venues he’s also seen appearances on Reprezent w/ Kade and Roska Kick’s and Snares newest member Motu with a 100% productions mix on Marcus Nastys show to look forward to this December.

Razor x Hamdi - What You Gonna Do (Prod. Retrospect)

Arriving like a freight train out of seemingly nowhere, Higgo has taken the UK Garage and Bass scene by storm. Blending UKG sensibilities with his passion for old school hip hop and the raw, bass focused attributes of the current sound of UK underground music, Higgo has quickly seen his music pick up support from top names in the scene, most notably the ‘Prince of Garage’ Conducta and Todd ‘The God’ Edwards which sees him land on 1Forty for the first time with a soulful UKG cut.

In 2019 Higgo’s music has been featured heavily by DJs across 1Xtra, Rinse and Reprezent, making appearances himself on the latter two. His reworks of Ms Dynamite’s ‘Dy-Na-Mi-Tee’ and Estelle’s ‘American Boy’ have received a hugely positive response, picking up heavy support from Sammy Virji and being uploaded by YouTube channel The Deeprot with the tracks achieving a combined play count of over 350,000 on Soundcloud alone. Higgo has released with Wang Records, Four40 and Rare Supply, his debut EP came out on the latter in June 2019. The ‘’95 EP’ went straight to the top of the Juno Download chart and has since had ‘Work’ feature in Spotify’s own editorial playlist, ‘New UK Garage’.

Higgo’s ever increasing popularity has resulted in headline shows up and down the country, including Manchester, Bristol, Nottingham, Exeter and Plymouth. He also made multiple appearances on Sammy Virji’s ‘Like A Virjin: Part II’ tour and held down support slots for Mind of a Dragon, El-B, Sharda and Royal-T. During festival season Higgo was at Forbidden Forest and BassFest and also took part in Conducta’s ‘Redbull Roadblock’ in Sheffield.

With more original music lined up for 2020, as well as a rapidly growing demand as a remixer, Higgo looks certain to become a leading name in the UK Garage revolution.

Higgo - Soul 2 Soul

Killjoy has taken the reigns on the bass infused funky track as part of the last couple of FNG Releases, however this time around LR Groove and Dryman have come together to deliver something exactly that. ‘Life Form’ sees a debut on the label for the both of them, with Dryman also becoming the first foreign artist to release on the label.

LR Groove has been mixing since 1994, initially in Jungle before moving toward UKG and Funky in the 00’s before going on to produce in 2007. Having been born and bred in North London and in and around the scenes for two decades he’s seen both Funky & Garage boom, simmer down and come back around again. In that time working with and receiving support from a number of established artists over the years across both the Drum & Bass and Garage/Funky spectrum in Marcus Nasty, Scott Garcia, Pioneer, B Live, Navigator, Killa P and more. The last few years have seen LR focus on the tribal side of funky taking masses amount of inspiration from African sounds and his Jungle roots. This has seen his productions release on the likes of Formula Records, Durkle Disco and DJ Mags Best Breakthrough Label 2019 nominee Nervous Horizon amongst others leading to a number of appearances on Rinse FM, Reprezent, Keep Hush, Just Jam as well as a number of shows, one of which being Drymans Funk’d Up events promotion based in Czech Republic where the two met leading to the creation of this track.

Dryman commonly known in his native Czech Republic as one of the leading promoters and DJs has played a host of shows across Europe in recent years, having been on the circuit since 1999. Performing with the likes of DJ EZ, Skream, Benga, Newham Generals, Preditah, El-B, Joker and Champion over the years just to name a few, its lead him to work and release with some highly reputable artists past and present from Flirta D, Scrufizzer, Slick Don and Milli Major to Bru-C, Deadbeat and the legendary Smack One.
