1trax continues its numerically themed mix series with ‘Four’ mixed by Hector following contributions from Subb-An, Matt Tolfrey and most recently, Huxley.

As with previous instalments, the DJ behind it is one of the house music scene’s new breed of tastemaker. An alumnus of London’s Phonica Records store, Hector has become a noteworthy touring DJ in recent years while also building as a producer for the likes of Desolat and Siesta. The Mexican- born Berliner’s continuing association with Loco Dice and his Artist Alife management company has done little to harm his burgeoning reputation, which has been on a slow, steady burn without needless hype or fuss, in recent years.

For the first time in the 1trax series, the mix for ‘Four’ was recorded in a club setting, namely that of the legendary Womb club in Tokyo. Musically, Hector is a house music devotee who favours deep, hypnotic grooves and this sensibility bleeds through his entire mix. From the smoky feel of the Melchior-esque opener, Arapu’s ‘Flash’, to the airy but dominating force of Boo Williams’ ‘Mortal Trance’, ‘Four’ snakes through a multitude of modern house variations. West Coast vibes courtesy of Joeski and Secret Society, stripped minimalism from Bruno Pronsato, warm techno from Ben Klock and pulsing darkness from Hanfry Martinez are all deftly threaded together into a dense and rhythmic mix from Hector.

As with previous instalments in the series we’re also treated to exclusive tracks and mixes, this time from tiNI, Fernando Constantini & Alexandar Kyosev, Anthea and John Dimas – all of which will feature on a separate vinyl sampler.

Introducing tight bass lines and hypnotic beats as a cinematic vocal rolls into the mix, ‘Common Threat’ opens the EP whilst carving a path for the second track, ‘Dark Passenger’ to explore more eerie, tripped out grooves. 

Drafting JustMe in on remix duties for ‘Common Threat’, the Bulgarian upstart adds his sultry overtones to seal the strong EP.

Kameleon continue to impress with their sonically rich, techy grooves, ‘The Common Threat EP’ lands July 22nd on 1trax.

This set was recorded on my first trip to South Africa, where I performed at a festival and a free show in Soweto alongside local artists Vinny da Vinci , Dj Fresh, Euphonik, Culoe de Song and LSG. All tour dates were partnered with non-profit organisation Bridges for Music. The aim was to use music to break down socio-economic boundaries bringing people from different communities together . Each one will attempt to capture the feeling and direction of the night, giving those who were there a reminder of the events they experienced while giving those who were not present a fragmented distortion of what they missed.

Next up on 1trax, the debut release from a promising young Bulgarian talent, JustMe.

A producer with a penchant for sultry aesthetics, dark overtones and killer grooves, JustMe has already grabbed the attention of top discerning selectors and labels alike. 
A trained sound engineer, JustMe’s emphasis of sonic quality is paramount in his production, with every sound carefully placed and tweaked into its own frequency range, all contributing to the greater cause, the sum of its parts, the groove.

‘Zero Gravity’ rings true to its name, with a heavy-set bottom that draws the listener into heads down space – hypnotic and heady. Techy, yet organic, like a dark earthy hole with shards of daylight poking through its dark exterior. On remix duties, Dean Barred gives ‘Zero Gravity’ a certain bounce whilst retaining its moody nature.

Following suit, ‘The D.U.B.’ rolls along in a composed fashion with pin point precision on the processing. Rounding off the EP, ’303py’ broods with a gnarly edge. 
JustMe is just getting started but already impressing.

Having become a member of the Moon Harbour agency and label family recently, Germany's mysterious Sable Sheep is back with a new four track EP that continues to explore his trademark tribal tinged tech house sound with great panache.  Sable Sheep is no stranger to success given the widespread deployment of his previous tracks like 'Painting My Fur', and that's a good job, because all of his latest missives are sure-fire dancefloor dynamite.

Upon Burning Skies is the opening track, and one that builds and builds in tension to an invisible peak that will have ravers on the edge of their feet as the tribal male chanting acts like a call to action above bouncing, buoyant kick drums and slick percussive details.  A dub version is also included in the package.

Torn To Pieces is another full-blooded groove that will lock you in from the very first rubbery kick and silvery hi hat ringlet. As they roll on next to each other without any friction at all, a knotted bassline and deft little synth stabs add some detail as a warm wind seems to howl in the background. Its stripped back but fills the airwaves and is the sort of physical track its impossible not to get carried away by.

Finally, Thy Suffer is another warm concoction of sound that Sable Sheep fills with rattling drum hits and sandy shakers. Some twitching alien sounds suggest the presence of life amongst the machines and the deep looping kicks help draw you in.

An EP produced with great precision restraint, Sable Sheep knows just how much to add into the without over doing things or allowing things to get stuck in a rut -- it's a perfect balancing act that is designed for maximum impact on the dancefloor.

Having previous collaborated together, Tripwire and Italian duo DZeta N’ Basile ventured back into the studio for ‘Prospect Zero’ – a deep, stripped back house track built for the clubs. Accompanied by a dub for later night moments, ‘Prospect Zero’ is sure to find its way into the boxes of a host of discerning jocks.
