Icarus - Flight Towards the Sun

Made purely with Berlin Strings v2.0 default patches, Tree mics only, no EQ. Orchestration is for a large string section, two percussion and piano.  Articulations featured for each section: Legato, Sustain, Pizzicato, Spiccato, Playable Runs, and Tremolo.

Here beginneth the sorrowful tale of Onav the Bastard.

Born with no name, no sigil, no father nor favour,
the said Onav was but a bastard — not saint, not knight, not pure —
yet in his heart stirred a dream more noble than his blood.
He did swear, by the Black Star above,
to climb unto the Mountain of Dragons,
where lay, enchained, the noble princess forsaken by the Gods.

Many perils he braved:
woods of shadow, beasts without tongue, living stones, and winds of falsehood.
And when hunger and fever brought him nigh to death,
a humble hut did appear at the edge of the world — smoking, silent, and still.

There dwelt a lone lady: fair of visage, dark of word.
She did offer him warmth, wine, and enchantment.
That very night, she took him — not as lover, but as prey.

By ancient words and blackened breath,
she bound his soul unto hers, then cast him aside.
And when dawn broke, Onav was but a toad.

And the dragons, weary of waiting, did feast upon the princess.

Cy commence l’histoire douloureuse d’Onav le Bastard.

Né sans nom, sans blason, sans père ni faveur,
ledit Onav estoit bastart — point preux, point saint, point preux —
mais en son cœur vibroit un songe plus noble que sa chair.
Il jura, par l’étoile noire, de monter jusques à la Montagne des Dragons,
où gisait, enchaînée, la noble princesse oubliée des Dieux.

Maints périls il affronta :
forêts d’ombres, bêtes sans langue, pierres vivantes, et vents de mensonge.
Et lors qu’il faillit choir de faim et de fièvre,
une chaumine parut au bord du monde — humble, fumante, accueillante.

Là vivoit une dame seule : douce par le regard, obscure par le verbe.
Elle l’abreuva de chaleur, de vin et de sortilèges.
La nuit mesme, elle le prit — non pour amant, mais pour victime.

Par les mots anciens et la fumée noire,
elle lia son âme à la sienne, puis l’oublia.
Au matin, Onav estoit crapaud.

Et les dragons, las d’attendre, dévorèrent la princesse.
