Capturing the essence of the Crosstown Rebels and Robot Heart experience at Burning Man, DAVI’s selection of deep melodic odysseys for Rebellion are awash with the other-worldly magic of the Playa. A-side ‘Rebel Heart’ fuses ancient Eastern melodies with moody bass and mystical arrangements.  Second track ‘Anunnaki’ (a name denoting a group of deities in ancient Mesopotamian cultures) continues the theme of spellbinding, earthy tones and on the remix, Mark Jenkyns toughens up ‘Rebel Heart’ with a squelchy acid-flecked bassline, solid kicks and overlays of his own wonky synth structures. Last but not least the masterstroke ‘Two Suns In The Sky’ hypnotises the soul with rolling drum beats and epic chords as waves of spooky energy and polyrhythms punctuate the cosmic sunrise soundscape. 

In DAVI’s words...
"The Rebel Heart party helped me find myself at Burning Man last year. The music was new and inspirational and I felt it deep inside of me. I was back in my studio within 2 days of returning from the desert, fired up by this new direction and I think I managed to create my own spin on this most magical experience and of course I sent it to Crosstown straight away".

Berlin based Dial label boss Lawrence tees up a deep and stripped back remix of KiNK’s ‘Ta’ for the Hypercolour label.

A well-respected producer via his releases for Mule Musiq, Giegling, Smallville and the aforementioned Dial imprint, Lawrence takes ‘Ta’ from KiNK’s recent ‘For The People’ EP and turns in a deliciously deep revision for the heads!

San Francisco-based producer @federsen inaugurates his @altdub imprint with an exquisite EP consisting of four deep and hazy dub techno tracks from himself and Cologne-based production duo Hidden Sequence.

Pressed on heavyweight blue marble vinyl, listeners can rest assured that the quality of wax is on par with the music. Our pick from the release is Federsen's solo track 'Polarity', which could easily sit alongside the likes of Basic Channel, Maurizio or even Deepchord. One of the most sought after records of all time on 20/20 Vision finally gets a re-issue from the original master recordings for its 25th anniversary. 

‘Lockdown’ has been on the radar for the next generation of vinyl collectors for many years with its “Do You Want to Feel the Bass with Me” vocoded vocal courtesy of Carl Finlow accompanied by Kong Trinity syncopated synth sounds and tight staccato drums. 

Finlow lets loose and goes freestyle on the keys for ‘On the Air’ which has stood the test of time as a bona fide slice of turn of the millennium Electro Funk. ‘Undercurrent’ continues the pulsating bass driven drama also becoming a much in demand underground dance floor weapon.

The EP is rounded off nicely with the Lo Fi 8 Bit Electro bomb that is this shape of things to come for his output as Carl Finlow - Disconnect. All the tracks are classic Finlow, all the tracks still sound as good today. Absolute essential re-issue for any record collection.

Honorary Rebel Mathew Jonson will soon be unleashing his long awaited third artist album on Crosstown Rebels but first a slice of the Canadian minimal house pioneer’s inimitable style with two tracks of distinct tonal contrast both with the unique stamp of a Jonson production.

Killer A-side ‘Automaton’ is a powerful trip with a solid yet nuanced drive, intricate tribal beats with an almost syncopated African influence combined with gnarled bass sequences in a never-ending groove.

B-side ‘In The Stars’ enters a more abstract realm, with celestial synth melodies melting into a sound bed of futuristic bleeps and a soporific groove of percussion and a heavy bass beat. In the breaks, vague jazzy chords fuse with an echoing voice descending from space.

The Mathew Jonson sound is instantly recognizable. Rhythmically complex and with a truly timeless fluid style, Jonson has a propensity for epic, dark and dynamic sound scapes that leave a dancefloor helplessly enthralled. Canadian born but residing in Berlin for the past decade, Jonson is widely considered a figurehead in the minimal house and techno surge of the early 2000s. Also part of the ground-breaking live techno project Cobblestone Jazz, Jonson is part-founder of the illustrious Wagon Repair imprint as well as his own Itiswhatisis Recordings and has appeared on heavyweight labels such as M_nus and Perlon. ‘Automaton’, Jonson’s second release on Crosstown Rebels after the runaway success of ‘Dayz’ in 2012, is a precursor to the hotly anticipated forthcoming album ‘Her Blurry Pictures’ – due on the label in June 2013.
