"The idea for this release came to me the winter before last. I happened to come across an article in the New York Times about how the Canadian police were training eagles to intercept drones. This unusual story interested me, and even then, I came up with the cover and the concept for the release. Musically, a lot has changed since then: I removed a lot of tracks, some were released on other labels, the sound quality improved, and the timing decreased. The result is only two tracks, and eighteen months of work. I hope you like it”. @shadowunit

2064年 Recordings, specializing in futuristic electronica, presents a release from label curator SHADOW UNIT. The EP consists of five tracks, each of which is a story that happened to me during the six months since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. 

'I started writing ANGEL CRY at the very beginning of the invasion. This track is about the hope for the best that remains with us even now. 

SPRING ENERGY is about the energy that is born at the turning point of spring. When winter really dies, and new life is born. 

PRAY is the most hypnotic track from the EP. I really like to play it in my sets, the version that got into the album has a new mastering and is different from the single. 

MAGIC DAY — I really like long walks in the forests of Kyiv. I have been planning this day for a long time, and I call it 'Magic Day'. Everyone needs such a day. 

LOVE AND AFFECTION has a summer vibe. We recorded it last summer together with Sasha Dog. This is the lightest track on the album, and it fits perfectly with the conclusion of this story.'

The debut release of the label 2064 年 Recordings and electronic musician Shadow Unit. The person behind this name is an experienced Kiev-based producer and DJ who earlier released his music under the names of Zipmix and The Dark Wood.

In 'Inside Us' you can hear the echoes of Sci-Fi movies: slowly developing melody like the ocean waves straight from the subconscious, which envelops and mesmerize the listener. Despite the melancholic mood, 'Inside Us' has a rhythmic part that sets the right mood and won’t stop the vibe at the party. An ideal soundtrack to immerse yourself on the dancefloor around 5 am.

LEFTIE//CAVEMAN ON A DATE

The veteran of Ukrainian drum'n'bass scene, musician with a rich background — Leftie, presented his mini album on 2064年 Recordings. It's a special occasion, since he is very reverent about his music and quite rarely puts it out.
This release combines lots of ideas and styles and every single track is a chapter with its own story and meaning taken from his personal audio diary. The journey starts with wonderful ambient tune — ‘Rejection’, which submerges the listener into right atmosphere from the very first notes and emphasizes the mood with sounds of a summer rainfall. Tedium explores the tricky question of boredom — can you write a tune that transmits this feeling, but is not boring itself? ‘DTP’ — the most experimental work of the release — was generated exclusively from a recording made in a car after a small traffic accident. Every sound, one way or another, was designed from interior hum and emergency lights clicking, which once again proves that there are no limits in creation.
The title track of the release — ‘Caveman On A Date’ — explores the feelings of an introvert dealing with an outside world. Tribal aesthetics, spontaneity of events and changes in groove intensity mix into a peculiar audio cocktail of emotions, not bereft of self irony. ‘Two Angry Developers Fixing A Problem While I Play With My Synth’ tells one of thousands office stories, which happened to all of us. What makes this particular story special is that its foundation was performed live on a synth right at the office. ‘Comets’ and ‘Cassiopeia’ are all about Leftie's love for outer space. The latter also actively uses the sounds of cosmic events and bodies provided by NASA. The journey finishes in awe of the beauty of the universe and creates a cyclic feeling linking back to the start of the release, so you'll definitely want to take this trip again!

LEFTIE
Alex Shatalov a.k.a. Leftie is a veteran of the Ukrainian breakbeat scene. Alex grew fond of hip-hop and drum'n'bass music in his teenage years and started producing own music in 1999.
After getting in touch with a local party scene Leftie also became a DJ known for his special selection and love for the cultural roots. At that time Alex also signed some of his tracks to local
 
labels and became an active member of the Ukrainian electronic music community. Years of involvement resulted in him joining ‘22:22 Studio’ where now he teaches production and works on his music.
Leftie is a frequent guest of local parties and radio shows and though he is mostly known for his drum'n'bass exploits, there are absolutely no genre restrictions to what he does in the studio. Alex strives to imbue his music with depth and cinematic feeling to paint a picture or tell a story, whatever stylistic form it might take.
