We open the Memory Leaks series with an interview with Andrii Strahov, a member of the Verba Khlyos (Верба Хльос) band, with whom we will delve into the memories of the Kyiv avant-garde scene of the late 1980s / early 1990s.

In this episode, in addition to Verb Khlyos, we will talk about Sugar White Death and Oleksandr Yurchenko, pioneers of independent music in Ukraine.

The Memory Leaks: The Story of Ukrainian Indie, Underground and Beyond project is part of the Альтернативи: New voices Ukraine initiative. This podcast series will highlight the history of the Ukrainian independent music scene through the concept of cultural memory as a source of knowledge about ourselves. Memory Leaks explores the development of the scene, tracing how the home studio avant-garde of the 90s evolved into the electronic cross-genre experiments of today.

In this episode of IRIY.Frequencies we spotlight Wisdom Teeth (@wisdomteeth-uk), the groundbreaking London-based label founded by K-Lone and Facta.

The label emerged during the post-dubstep fallout when the London club scene was oversaturated with dubstep and Garage tracks, prompting crowds to shift towards more German-sounding techno. Wisdom Teeth was one of the first labels to merge classical UK sound's bass-heavy, broken rhythms with industrial techno. However, the label began incorporating more experimental and ambient sounds after a few releases, eventually becoming quintessentially left field.
