Welcome to post-post-apocalyptic radio, we’re out the other side with some good momentum, and damn it feels good. Well, it just so happens that I have a mix that fits the mood perfectly, its from Eora specialist Patrin, an expert in audible emotional stabilisers. 

A theoretical therapist in his own right, Patrin is one of the heads behind a fellow ‘outside of the box’ mix series, Theory Therapy (huge tip!! // link below), which has been a personal favorite of mine and many others throughout the last year or so, especially for a much needed hit of inspiration through the recent bleakness. With their debut VA release that recently dropped, and the consistency of their mix series, it’s easy to see that they won’t be slowing down any time soon and I cannot wait to see where they go. 

Patrin in his own right has a beautiful idea of what music is, and what it can do, and that’s exactly what comes through in this mix. I’ve been struggling to really put this mix into words as it's quite emotional on all fronts, the eerie subtleties and haunting soundscapes actually builds the intensity to almost breaking point. It’s so perfectly layered and thought-out that you’d think he made it specifically for you. Ambient done so damn right it hurts, a perfect soundtrack to watching clouds and taking some time out for yourself, the importance of which is going to be unparalleled over the coming few months. This mix is pure relief, make sure you always keep it close by.

Mouthfull resident @bella-johansson returns with E36 of some times - from Stockholm, Sweden. 

Easing into the new year of broadcasting with an ambient, soothing energy—think elegant compositions weaving through piano, organ, and minimal synth, creating a space for reflection and warmth. 
The ethereal drift moves into fluid rhythms, gentle textures, and deeper percussion over the course of the two hours; a blend of mid-90s finds, but with focus on 2020’s releases.

Today is my late wife's birthday.  Her last birthday with us was in 2020.  So, if this track feels a bit more personal than most of the other Interbay tracks...that's because it is.

Sad, with some heartfelt but hard to say truths might not be your idea of birthday wishes, but I'm not sure how else to honor a day that will never be as happy as it had been before.  

I knew that I'd wanted to do a song specifically for today, but when I started the project, I assumed it would be a soft, piano-forward ballad.  The fact that it starts with music box and dark strings sent me on another path altogether.  You get to about 2/3rds of the way through the song, and suddenly you're in a mystery thriller and who knows what might be lurking behind every shadow.  Who can say if you're in danger or if you're just scaring yourself.

It was not my intention to bring everyone down with this track.  However, it certainly was my intention to express myself within the context of the music that I make.  And, as you know, some Interbay tracks end up being a path to more insights and expressions than others.

I think the track itself says anything else I would want to say about it, so let's post a smaller description than normal, today.  (My gift to you, I suppose. ;) )

I would appreciate you giving "Birthday Wishes" a listen.  I know it might be hard to "like" a song that is a bit darker and depressing than you'd typically find here, but if you think it was well done, give it a like for that.  Obviously, you reposting it, sharing it, adding it to a playlist, and/or commenting on it..all that or any of that would be welcome.

Ziggy Devriendt is a Belgian DJ known as Nosedrip. He has a focussed aesthetic that is all about dark music, heavy moods and enchanting trance vibes “that brings people to an early grave with a smile.” He has his own show on NTS that often gets wonderfully weird and freaky as it touches on post punk, new wave, synth and psych, as well as many occult sounds in between. He also played on the Red Light Radio stage at our recent festival and now casts another bit of brilliant sonic shade with this new mix for us. 

In just over an hour, Nosedrip stitches together a spine tingling and haunted selection of slithering electronic sounds from across the ages. Sometimes with eerie keys, at others with rasping electro grooves and always with a rather desolate sense of atmosphere, there is a proto-techno and primitive electronic feel to the whole thing. War reporting monologues and spoken word poetry from John Cooper Clarke only add to the absorbing but unsettling nature of the whole thing and it marks one of the most singular selections of our series.
