Kate Wolf speaks with the writer and scholar McKenzie Wark about her latest book, Raving. Raving beckons readers onto the dance floors of underground parties in New York, combining Wark’s own vivid experience of these spaces with her theories of the rave itself. Wark considers the rave’s potential for a break in linear time, and its offering of a different mode of self-embodiment or self-abandon; its condition as a communion place for a variety of queer and trans bodies; its array of substances; and of course, its techno soundtrack. In the book’s six essays Wark moves seamlessly from autofiction to reportage to cultural critique, and invites the voices of other ravers along for the ride.
Also, Malcolm Harris, author of Palo Alto: A History of California, Capitalism, and the World, returns once again to recommend Antony Loewenstein's The Palestine Laboratory.

Prague's Mor Wen is at the helm of this week's Rhythmic Culture podcast. Mor Wen is a part of Glory Affairs - a morphing group of collaborative friends combining various forms of audiovisual art. The collective's wish is to co-create bonds between both friends and strangers through reshaping different environments into temporary multi-genre living rooms. It combines and plays with sound, movement, cooking, painting, sculpting, costumes, performance and mainly light-hearted humor.

The Planeta Za + Ankali resident oscillates between community building, live performance, DJing, keeping the borders between blurred at all times. Among experiences which influenced her practice is a participation in physical theatre, intergenerational movement and cooking workshops, and teaching children in Prague’s Vietnamese cultural centre of Sapa.

Skupina & mappa's latest show maps field recordings of birdsongs from different parts of Eastern Europe. 

The archive of Dr. Ország Mihály and Peter Szöke, two legendary Hungarian ornithologists, features some of the well-hidden gems followed by recordings of Polish sound artist Izabela Dłużyk. Mihály persevered in his work despite being blind towards the end of his life, while Dłużyk was blind since birth. Both demonstrate tremendous sensitivity and honed listening practice. 

Additionally, the show includes a recording from the compilation „Sounds From Dangerous Places,“ where Peter Cusack explores the sonic environment of Chornobyl.
