With the VOI025 VOITAX welcomes an ambitious music lover from the south of Germany that has been a relentless contributor to the world of electronic music – Farron. He left his first footprints on Ilian Tape already back in 2009 under his previous moniker LaChriz, followed by further releases on Woods ‘N Bass Records, Out-ER, and Baud Music. His label Shaw Cuts, founded in 2015, was a milestone for the artist and was also responsible for Farron, the artist’s latest and most fruitful solo alias. Since the label’s genesis, we have seen the artist and label go from strength to strength – both amassing a very credible catalogue! Alongside the announcement of his freshly created platform, Farron also managed to land more releases on Forbidden Planet, Renascene, XCPT and Subosc.

Marking Voitax’s 25th release »Venice Pavilion«, Farron delivers a beautiful blend of electronics that straddle the lines between jungle, IDM, electro, and techno. The A-Side kicks off with rough breaks, moody Reese basses, and fast footwork rhythms that crown the EP with its very own sparkling character – modern jungle topped with dystopian pads and pressing basslines are perfectly melted into the break-fuelled ride.

The flip side doesn’t cool things down – fluid drum patterns and hammering toms are continually chased by dramatic synths, with a constant weight brought to the table by the chunky low ends. The energy is maintained throughout, as jungle and electro live side by side in harmony in the track list before the release is brought to an emotional halt with a classy ambient piece.

Having grown up as a skater in a small town close to Munich, Farron, real name Christoph, began to build his musical foundation upon hip hop, reggae, and punk from an early age. Electronic music did not have a significant role in his early years, however his curiosity started to grow when he first permeated the nearby clubs in Munich. Christoph found himself entering exciting new realms after enriching visits to local club Harry Klein. With the following years spent visiting various clubs around the nearby Bavarian capital, as well as a growing interest in a wide range of artists and labels, his first sound was shaped and helped him build a music direction. As his studio equipment expanded, and after clocking up countless hours In his studio, the German producer, known LaChriz at the time, saw the fruits of his labour land on various labels such as Woods ’N Bass Records, Out-ER, and Baud Music and more notably on Ilian Tape.

With the producer’s pursuit of independence, came the desire to establish his own label. A place that serves as a musical platform for not only himself, but somewhere that likeminded artists can also be invited to express themselves fully. His label Shaw Cuts, founded in 2015, was a milestone for the artist and was also responsible for Farron, the artist’s latest and most fruitful solo alias. Since the label’s genesis, we have seen the artist and label go from strength to strength – both amassing a very credible catalogue! JVXTA is a DJ and producer based in London (UK). He also co-founded the label Hardmatter.
  
Here, Scissor And Thread, the Brooklyn imprint headed by Francis Harris and Anthony Collins share JVXTA’s debut album - Euston Blues. 

The album is a collection of moods and textures, from woozy soundscapes like opener No One Needs to Know and Voyager, to grooving, dusty house tracks like Hold On, Water Temple and Lost in Place. 

Tracks develop from ambient textures into leftfield beat excursions (Beyond) and incorporate thoughtful samples such as the spoken word poetry in The Stolen Child.

Elements of free improvisation and experimentation pepper the album, while a strong thread of atmospheric cohesion winds its way through the eight tracks - making Euston Blues a truly rewarding and rich listening experience. 

"Euston Blues synthesises deep chords, classic house rhythms and jazz laden influences to chronicle an intimate journey of physical and psychological isolation." says Charles Field, the man behind the JVXTA project.

29 Speedway announces their second solo release “Hydra” by Japanese experimental electronic musician Yolabmi. A staple of the DIY experimental electronic scene in Tokyo, Yolabmi frequents hubs like FORESTLIMIT, spread, and spazio-rita. “Hydra” diverges from Yolabmi’s earlier body of work that previously explored soft ambient sounds, acoustic textures, and field recordings of wildlife; tracks that feel like they’re straight out of Tsukamoto’s 80s machine-body horror films, heavy with repetition and glitch where sampling creates mechanical conversations.Yolabmi’s grasp on sound design has been central to their creative process and is a through line across their shifting sound. In this 8-track EP, we hear Yolabmi strip away embellishments to focus on using sound design for its percussive and atmospheric capacities. Elements shift, tick, drip, chirp, and groan, building to a dark fugue. “Hydra” is a dizzying ride with an undercurrent of drones and a constellation of sounds that feel like they’re traveling at at the speed of light.

We are thrilled to announce our latest release, a reissue of the 1987 hidden gem Resonance, by Japanese pianist Yumiko Morioka. Originally released on Akira Ito’s ‘Green & Water’ label Resonance remains her only solo record - a truly stunning, timeless collection of compositions that deserves to find a new audience in 2020. 

Just a little over two years ago, Yumiko was fortunate to escape with her life when a neighbour woke her in the middle of the night to tell her that wildfires were closing in. Thirty minutes later her California home, along with all her musical recordings and equipment, was destroyed.

Now back living in Tokyo, where Resonance was created, she is doing well and is excited that her music is being given a new lease of life. It’s our great fortune that Yumiko, and the music she recorded back in 1987, survived and we’re honoured to be able to share the remastered recordings with the world.

Resonance draws influence from the popular environmental music culture prevalent in Japan during the late 80s, but it’s also heavily inspired by Western musicians like Erik Satie and Brian Eno. Listening today, it still feels fresh and pertinent; like the great pioneers of classical and ambient music, there's a timelessness to Resonance - a comforting, familiar feeling, as if these melodies have always existed.

"I could see the little flag running in the wheat field, disappearing every now and then.
We had gotten used to the air being dry and the sun was crushing us to the ground. The outside world was a slightly moving painting in a window frame. Yesterday we made bread and braided it in the shape of a jury mast knot, too lovely to be cut in pieces. When the sun would finally set after everlasting hours, we would climb on the roof, carrying big glass jars. We would stand there, jars opened and would start humming, and blowing, and whispering, for the clouds to travel to us. Sometimes we would feel a bit of a breeze tickling the back of our necks, and we would hold the jars above our heads, hopeful to capture some of the fiery red clouds.
Today we ate all the knotted bread with plum jam amd cold milk. It gave us enough energy to hum and blow and whisper, that right when the sun was saying goodbyes, we trapped the last clouds there were in the sky. They were coral pink, and a little bit of the night was there too.
We all dreamed of our prisoners, sleeping in the jars, maybe wondering why the twilight was so dark, so long and so tight. In the morning, we starred at the jars for an hour and could have sworn we saw a tiny star crying.

"Indefinite Lattices, the new 12-inch record by Glyn Maier, is rock music of a very different order. During visits to two mineral-rich sites, Maier collected field recordings of these environments which were then re-synthesized into four extended compositions. At Ringing Rocks in Pennsylvania, a field of boulders make bell-like tones when struck, as well as low-frequency tones that are unhearable by humans. (Scientists have yet to discern why the rocks ring, but believe it may have to do with the freeze-thaw cycle that produced them.) The other site visited by Maier—the fairly remote Kaʻena Point on the coast of O’ahu, Hawaii—was believed to be the departure point for souls leaving this world.

The unstable rhythmic patterns from these spaces, as well as Maier’s tappings, scrapes, and footsteps throughout the two sites, are paired with lullabilic progressions and ghostly effects. Instead of the artist’s personal expressions, the tracks on Indefinite Lattices are envisioned as lithic formations in their own right, as things grown rather than produced. They seem to have peaceful but complex lives of their own. Guided by notions of deep ecology—and an anti-colonialism that recognizes the bloody histories of these two sites—Maier refashions the instrumental utility of electronic music so that the agency of environments is emphasized.

Like watching rocks fall down a cliffside and splashing into a stream, or the humbling calm of a thunderstorm, one is left wondering whether this record is the result of human intention or a combination of natural forces. Treading the line between traditional and experimental approaches to ambient music, Maier edits the contingency of his gear’s electrical signals and the recorded environments into tightly conceived compositions. Indefinite Lattices is documentation of moments in the geological process, but also illustrates the geologic nature of art itself.

From the curdled invocation of opener ‘I Bowed On My Knees’ to the enrapturing devotional of ‘While My Heart Still Beats’ to the final judgement of ‘Kneel For Mercy’, the album wrenches highly emotive textures utilising a blend of centuries-old chant styles and orchestration consisting of  chamber strings, tape loops and plangent processed sounds.
