Israeli producer Yotam Avni is back with a fresh cut of uplifting, inspirational dance-floor music, along the same lines as some of the killer cuts he's produced for the likes of Robsoul, Be As One and Osunlade's Yoruba records imprint. Weaving elements of Detroit techno, jacking Chicago house and deep atmospheres, Yotam Avni's productions - either under his own name or pseudonyms - Avadon and Jersey Real Estate - are guaranteed to keep the midnight oil burning, no matter the crowd. It's with this reputation that Ovum Recordings welcomes the passionate producer to it's ever-swelling ranks.

Yotam's debut for Ovum Recordings is of the same quality and ilk that weve come to expect. The title track's original mix is proud and uptight, bursting in with a clipped but swollen kick drum, fat around the edges and deep in it's descent, before a vocal snippet chimes in through a mesh of bass gradually stomping its way into earshot with a gentle canter before those bass tones become a full on wobble and the driving rhythm to the track is notched up on the break, mixing Yotam's trademark uplifting house with galvanized, toughened techno beats. 

On the remix we welcome the Dutch bastion of techno Mr. Steve Rachmad, who delivers a superb rework under his darker and deeper Sterac alias. Jacking, rolling and pumping, his remix focuses on the filters. Dry flanges, acid stabs and filtered analogue synths sit atop a frenetic hi hat for a bass-less but high impact smasher. 

Closing the EP is the intriguingly titled Bbbooy Skat, that runs with a hypnotic, wavering acid synth lines and muted, clipped kick drums - reminiscent of his live looping techniques when Djing - before igniting into progressively building techno roller, adding elements of percussion atmosphere and melody, never once shifting focus from that hypno-top line. A subdued but effective midnight roller that offers an endless conclusion to another triumphant set from the Ovum Recordings crew.

Almost exactly three years after NR&, a project uniting &ME’s and Rampa’s production with the voice of New York Disco-House-siren Nomi, dropped their debut EP, we finally can announce a new chapter in this ongoing transatlantic menage. This very “Spoken For” EP is comprised of two new tracks, that again fuse songwriting with floor-demands and showcase the same crackling and pulse quickening passion that instantly has become NR&’s trademark. So here’s the evidence – a long distance relationship is not necessarily doomed to get boring after a while.

“Taste Like” on A might be conceived as the club-affair of those two new joints. A tune indulging in self-control, extending the pre- eruptive moment of excitement to track length. There is Nomi’s unmistakeable sexed up oration, flanked by an affirmative thunderstorm of claps, then a bass heavy bridge, overflowing into a noise brushed finale. Altogether a tasty flavour carrier for an effective floor heating.
“Spoken For” is not only the title track, but also the hymn coming out of the flipside ambush. There is no kick necessary to underpin what Nomi’s charismatic croon is laying down. Therefore a wise choice to let the arrangement of interspersed field recordings, percussive details and piano- and synth-decoration exercise in unobtrusiveness. Safe to say, this tune will refine many future peaktimes anyway.

Having had their Underyourskin Records debut with the ‘Letters EP‘ last year, the Hamburg producer duo Shkoon continues their musical journey with a six tracker on the label. ‘Build Your Castles‘ heroically presents the fusion between the Occident and contemporary electronic music and comes along with two new original versions, namely ‘Build Your Castles‘ and ‘Bushiya‘, each provided with two remixes. The EP‘s eponymous track remains true to the duo‘s striking style combing traditional oriental vocals and soundscapes with a yet more uplifting baseline that is ensnared by a synth soundframe that indicates an acid bleep outburst giving the track its distinctive note. Arutani‘s remix focuses on the traditional sound excerpts of the original, but remodels the original vibe into a downtempo construct that creates its very own dynamic that peaks when the vocals unfold. The second remix is provided by Miret, who endues the original with a way more techy baseline that turns it into a proper dancefloor weapon. ‘Bushiya‘s‘ fizzling synths that smoothly sneak around the oud and sticcado easily blurs the boundaries between traditional and contemporary music and evoke a grasping feeling of melancholy reinforced by an Arabian chant. Rodrigo Gallardo builds his remix around the oud-sound from the original and lays it on top of a luscious baseline that turns the track to an ambitious oriental listening experience yet maintaing its downtempo pace. Ali Farahani‘s retreat of ‘Bushiya‘ highlights the shaped sound of an Arabian flute while the synth-melody steps from the back- to the foreground and vibes smoothly with the stomping baseline.

Another free treat from us - a wonderful melodic track from Marcus Sur. Marcus' EP - The Traveller, was released by Motek Music earlier in the year and got huge support from the likes of John Digweed, Joseph Capriati, Nicole Moudaber, Sasha, Eelke Kleijn, Ruede Hagelstein, with the title track being played by Tube & Berger on the legendary BBC 1 Essential Mix in February. Das Trio @treibgut eine reine Improvisations-Band und stellt sich immer einfach so mit ihren Instrumenten und Geräten vor eine Menschenmenge. „Die Inspiration kommt dabei aus dem Moment und dem Zusammenspiel zu dritt“, erklären die Musiker aus Hamburg. Manchmal seien es sogar eigene kleine Fehler, die die Idee zum nächsten Track liefern würden. „Am Ende eines Gigs in der Hammahalle des Sisyphos ist dann irgendwie der Track „Phosphor“ entstanden. Das ist zwar auch schon wieder eine Weile her, aber irgendwie hat er uns nicht losgelassen, so dass wir ihn unbedingt aufnehmen und veröffentlichen wollten.“ Gesagt, getan. It's a (tiny) jubilee and we're gonna celebrate this with the SoKool boys from Berlin. Their label debut 'You Did It EP' is spiced with a little bunch of remixes and pops up as an exquisite music rounding off.

They did it - 'You Did It'. For an unstrained moving original, SoKool turn the knobs into a square and harsh bassline that puts a decent weight on a basic rhythm like kick, clap and unsteady hats. Smartly these forms an extraordinary mood, which tends to eternalness by adding a pensive melody. Remixer one is DkA from Bruxelles who striked recently (in collab. with Igor Vicente) on Mobilee, Get Physical or Hot Creations. Infusing a dragging synthbass and keepin' the melody fluid, makes it generate a highly obsessing tune. On the other hand, the charming Spanish guy FreedomB from Berlin delivers another groove bomb remix, bang!

SoKool's 'Sa Phia' appears gentle for a low-driven journey into a sparkling world of club fairy tales. Brave and daring creatures float for the sake of this beauty in a sound orgy. In turn, Carlo Ruetz takes it on by night: still on the easy trail, he keeps it rollin' in a wide room. A bowl of effects and clap games striping his remix. Surely more than just functional!
