Under the Botany moniker, Spencer Stephenson creates rich psychological and emotional experiences through audio. When he started creating his own music at age 15, he was enamored with Four Tet, Stars of the Lid, Madlib, and Dilla.  In his late teens, he went through a heavy period of discovery with Psychedelic rock, Krautrock, and Brit-folk. "I started imitating a lot of those forms in my own music, sampling them sometimes, recording from scratch sometimes, but really just trying to bridge a gap between those worlds and sample-based hip hop, and I’m still trying."

On his latest effort Dimming Awe, the Light is Raw, the 27-year-old producer and composer continues dissolving the borders between his disparate-yet-beloved psych, hip hop, and ambient influences.  Unlike his debut LP Lava Diviner, which peaked and valley-ed through a narrative arc, Dimming Awe focuses on the artist's ever-unfolding, present state of mind.  As a former jazz student, spiritual/free jazz philosophy regarding what he calls “emergent” music has increasingly become a guiding light when he creates.  "The more emergent I let my music be when I'm making it, the more I like the result, it feels like a truer reflection.  I feel like I am getting closer to doing that with computer-made music," he says.  "This album is a document of what I do, not a statement in any explicit way. I feel like I'm moving closer to a jazz underpinning that I've always felt, philosophically more than aesthetically…making music feels more like exhaling as I grow older.”

None of the Above aka N/O/T/A is an escape from reality plan. Made in between London and Toronto, it joins Dinamo Azari (AZARI & III) and Mixhell's Laima Leyton and Iggor Cavalera (SEPULTURA). Eager to collaborate and make music in a non compromised way, the trio brought together live and electronic drum beats, strong bass lines, unexpected samples and dark synths to an unknown place. It is none of the genres we are listening to nowadays but it still brings together a live feeling of techno, industrial and acid, yes, we love acid.

Ontal´s work excites many conflicting emotions. Exuberant, convoluted and theatrical plots define the watchwords attached to the Serbian duo. They represent one of the most paradigmatic examples of how industrial/techno can still offer a wide range of pleasant surprises. A visceral understanding of the scenic rhythm space vs. void establishes a metamorphic composition in short of an almost Baroque sensitivity. Always moving around an unstable fringe of intuition-rules-over-eclecticism, together with an attitude of total irreverence against the old aphorism, but keeping at the same time an incredible discipline of sophistication, produce a situation where anything touched by them have to be immediately placed at the top of the evolution line of the electronic music.

“Pietà” simply shows this feeling at their best.

Here's my remix for Martyn Hare's rowdy "Crowd Trouble". Other remixes on the 12" are from Inigo Kennedy, Joe Farr & SAWF remixes...For this, I went in with an energetic "EBM" kind of vibe. It was great to do this for Martyn as we go way back, when he booked me to play for him in Leeds in the  mid 2000's.

These are club tracks for the DJ looking to add a modern take on classic acid house to their arsenal.

Jaime Read and Felix Dickinson's pedigree as DJs and producers runs parallel to the history of UK house music. 

In 1991 Jaime Read was lent a couple digital synths and made a few tunes (one of which Richie Hawtin wanted to release). He next hired some studio time and made a number of tunes there, some of which would later appear on Target, Basement 282, Relief and Peace Frog records under Joe Lewis's name (the story behind this is well documented already). Soon after, he spent a lot of time partying in Brighton, where he met Felix Dickinson. Felix turned him on to a hell of a lot of music; and they started djing together at The Joint where they held a residency for 5 years with Bobby Coulman from Soft Rocks.  Jaime has since released records on his own label Push 2 Shove, Ugly Music, and more recently Housewax and Electrosouls. 

Felix’s Dickinson’s history started in the UK free party scene but has since taken him round the world many times over with a 10 year residency at the Lifeforce parties in Japan and repeat performances at festivals from Croatia to Nevada. Felix was making and playing music in those “warehouse days”, but he still consistently champions underground music to this very day, through his myriad musical guises including Foolish and Sly, LHAS Inc, Das Etwas, Bastedos, and Dedication, on labels like DFA, Eskimo, Rush Hour, International Feel and Futurboogie or his own label, Cynic Music.

One of Jaime's early aliases on his label Push 2 Shove was  L.H.A.S. (Larry Heard Appreciation Society), so when the two began making music together (as a fellow admirer of Larry's work) Felix suggested the Society expand and they change the name to L.H.A.S. Inc. to give a further nod to the work of Fingers Inc. (and to differentiate it from the solo work Jaime had done previously). It all got a bit confusing when Jaime revived LHAS a few years ago as to who was responsible for which tracks, so they've now gone back to just using their own names. 

Two legends still making relevant music today.  

There is a remix by Neville Watson. You may know him for his work with Kink, his releases on Clone and Creme or his sets alongside Laurent Garnier, Andrew Weatherall, Craig Richards and more at venues like Sub Club, Berghain, Panorama Bar and Fabric to name a few.

Kedr Livanskiy is Russian for Lebanese Cedar. 

The sinister synths in Sgoraet (English: Burning Down) are inspired by the otherworldliness of Russian winter; Russia in winter is a terrible thing, but it also has a strange romantic presence to it. The drum and bass coda emulates the feeling of impending death and transition to another state when winter is over one's shoulder. 

Kedr on growing up in Russia and the influence that had on her music: 
"Of course the big problem was perpetual drunkenness—people would drink themselves to death. I was born on October 4, 1990. It was a very interesting but critical time for Russia—a time of great change. The Soviet Union was no more, and old values were anathematized because of the reconstruction.

In my early teens no one seemed to understand me in this world (I thought), so I read Washington Irving novels and listened to The Cure. At around 20 years old I felt a real need to find myself, so I entered the directing department of the Moscow School of New Cinema. At the same time, electronic music fascinated me completely.

A small circle of my friends formed around a mutual interest in music. We always went to concerts together, of which were mostly international artists: Inga Copeland, DJ Spinn and DJ Rashad, Legowelt, Death Grips, Florian Kupfer, Dean Blunt, etc. It wasn’t long until we organized the community and DIY record label known as John’s Kingdom. It’s not only about music; it’s also a channel for art, videos and lifestyle. Now it’s the most alive and honest thing in Moscow.

My music is strongly inspired by Autechre, Aphex Twin and Boards of Canada, but with the lyrics and mood of Mazzy Star. I admire contemporaries Inga Copeland and Laurel Halo, however, my songs are more pop-leaning because of the powerful influence MTV had on my adolescence."

In 1991 @cisky created Teletype and Varyal for M.c.e. Records (Action4Action) and ‘the party’ in 1994 for the label whosdiselecta. 15 years later he founded Csk Recordings with Paolo Soncini (2006), after 7 years this label was renamed @csk-beat . Cisky & Soncini are now called Dog.ma (Dogmaitaly) and they run another label called Dogmatraxxx. But the mother ship remains csk beat and this latest release due in December,  is a new electronic acid trip by Csk (Cisky) including remixes by  K-Effect and @AntonioOtheo (Founder of Regith Rec). 

The latter delivering a fantastic dark and atmospheric rework which we have come to expect from the accomplished Mexican producer.
