UPDATE JANUARY 2015

This track listing is unique... it is an interpretation and reflection of my life, notably over the last few years. It starts from the expression of dysphoria (sadness) associated with my gender. This goes back most notably to the 1980s but 'the sadness' was most pronounced in the 3 years prior to 2012 as desperation set in.

Trance music had always uplifted me in bad times... but over the past 2 years it has come to mean something different... celebration. This track listing attempts to musically represent the last 3 years of my life...

The melancholy and sadness of the past decade and a half are reflected in the sullen yet beautiful first 2 tracks. 'Southern Sun' with its subliminal fading lyric "set me free". (Missing from the list is 'Adagio for Strings' which would be at the very beginning, Emotional strings, never quite getting there...

'The Awakening'.... this represents the moment when I knew I had to make steps to change my life... or face continuation of misery. This is also reflected in Stine Grove's lyrics in Crossroads. 'Can't deny what's always been inside'... 'There's a whisper in the hallway singing 'Dont just let it be'.. I stood at a crossroads - back to misery, forward along a scary path, or down into black water....

The firm strong beat passage of 'Aeon of Revenge' my determination to go through with my journey.

'Autumn Tactics' - the awareness that I have reached the Autumn of my life, but for me the season turns into summer "The Hiding Sun, like the Hiding Sun, feels like its just begun, The Hiding Sun, like the Hiding Sun, waiting for Summer Sun".

'Don't Give Up' - its hard to do what I've done, VERY hard. I've had to face and tell family, friends and fellow professionals, clients etc. Giving up could have been an easy way out... but consigned the rest of my life to a hell.

Eventually, as I began to pass into summer, my achievements and feelings were so so very close to the lyrics of 'Such is Life'. "I'm making changes now...", "Seems like I've, been waiting, Held in tight, I'm aching, I'm seeing clearly now, Wipe away the tears, and I will be free, I am free". After 59 years, I was free and flying.... I can't tell you how that feels!! I was the bird released from a cage, a prisoner for life, now liberated.... just try to imagine!

'Drifting Away' - like a bird soaring high "I'm flying, I'm gonna head for paradise".

Transition is tough... I've lost loved ones along the way, not least my son and my sister... The verse lyric in 'The Heart Speaks' is SO apt. It IS a "dusty road" and a "weary track". The streets aren't gold,  the sun shines sometimes but it can disappear in a 'black clouded silhouette', shadowed by the regret that I didn't do this earlier in my life. The chorus lyric is sublime. It was myself that told me' not to fly', it was time to 'look up from the shadows and into the sky', and yes, "The Heart speaks words that minds will never write". All the way through my journey I have followed my heart, not my head. The final line, "Hold on to the promise, It'll be alright" - a reminder to keep the faith!

Since I discovered true happiness and congruency between my heart and soul, and my gender/life existence, I have felt happiness I never thought existed. I came to believe that I'd never really felt true happiness. Waves of sheer euphoria swept through me even when I was doing the most mundane things. I felt like I was flying. 'Big Sky' should be in this list!

Trance music changed for me. Instead of uplifting me from (sometimes) despair, it now reflected my euphoric feelings and I would spend evenings dancing to classic anthems from the last decade and more... 

The next tracks reflect my sheer joy with my life. There are very pertinent classic anthems in the mix. I can't include them all (sadly!). Who cannot dance to Strings for Yasmin for instance???

I saw Paul Oakenfold at Ministry of Sound in October '13,  I first heard PO back in the mid nineties. My son was playing a PO Essential Selection CD and I thought 'Hey, that's really good". I borrowed that CD from my son and it took him 2 years to get it back! 3 years later I saw him in the Empire Theatre, Middlesbrough... he just swept me away. Since those times I have followed him and his music from afar. He just has an ear for beautiful melodic music, I believe that to do that, like me he too 'feels' music.....

And then... then.... along came Lange and We Are Lucky People. Truth was I'd been listening to his Trance Nation Mix traveling to and from work for months. As is my ignorant bliss, I'm not very 'geeky' with knowing names of artists and tracks... I just listen. There were several tracks on that double continuous mix CD which I'd come to love. I decided to make up a CD of the full individual tracks of my favourites. Low and behold.... Lange, Lange, Lange.... Drifting Away is in this mix already (and Fiji was always a favourite Classic of mine). I started to look instead of just listen. I bought and discovered We Are Lucky People. Listened, again and again and again, over and over. I loved it's sheer beauty, depth, technicalities and the music was simply perfection to my 'taste'. Off to Intercity Radio episodes to hear his interviews with the lyricists, Betsie Larkin, Stine Grove et al. I simply fell in love with this brilliant album. I still return today, and discover all the tiniest intricacies. 

But, this was all happening in synch with other wonderful changes in my life. Not least the start of a wonderful summer and a significant step in my changes progression. It all came together, summer, life-changes, music in one beautiful and wonderfully HAPPY emotional life-event!

So... off on another journey... hearing and buying all I could by Lange. 

I first saw him do a Producer's Set in Manchester (Majefa) in August. I laughed and cried simultaneously to both We Are Lucky People and Follow Me. I've since seen him at All Hands on Decks, Ministry, As-One, and a hugely emotional gig in Bergen (and should have been Amsterdam). I sat through the enormity that was Intercity200 24 hour trance-a-thon. I cried all the way though the last hour and for an hour after (thanks Andy Duguid!). Since July, I had blustered into the Twittersphere... So not only did Lange make music that hit my spot, I discovered he also liked kittens and Rich Tea biscuits, which became a bit of a running gag for a while. But on top of that I could see that here was a wonderful man. Sensitive, loving of his wife, modest, clearly very happy, and considerate of others (including me), encouraging to young talent and caring of our environment. I felt an accord with myself - my own views, beliefs and how I am. 

Happiness Happening became my Anthem! Happiness had become a life-force. It surrounded me like a force-field.

My profession is Architecture. It is a creative profession. Buildings to me are about people enjoying their environment.  Buildings are experiential. I design experiences and aim for moments of delight. So I have immense respect for creativity by others. I see (hear) intricate creativity in Lange's work, and have immense respect of him for that. We all need a hero... perhaps he is mine.

In the year 1936 Samuel Barber composed a beautiful classic piece of music, which got the name "Adagio For Strings".  A composition that was used a lot, such as in famous movies like “Platoon”. In 1995 UK based producer William Orbit started to work on an album with synthesizer interpretations of some classical pieces. In 1999 Ferry Corsten was asked to make a remix of William’s version of “Adagio For Strings”. Ferry’s remix got released late 1999 and an edit of Ferry’s version, was even used as the radio / video version.

Ferry’s remix won a "Dancestar Award" in 2000 for best remix of the year of 1999.

North Pole (2010 Edit) (Track 2 on "Dreamcatcher") – It all began back in 2006 as the original cut of this track, with its epic, teasing breakdown and explosive choruses, made its mark. Reworked and rewired for 2010 with a deep and chunky bottom end, this mix has a somewhat more progressive feel but retains that unmistakeable lead melody at its very heart.
