Sound Avenue opens 2022's second quarter with a new single from label boss Madloch and frequent studio partner Subnode. Now approaching four years in their creative partnership, the Belgian duo had a noteworthy 2021, releasing two well-received singles across the year. September saw Madloch and Subnode deliver their ‘A Short Moment' to commemorate Another Life Music's one hundredth release. Backed by remixes from Petar Dundov and Zoi (CA), it was quickly followed by what was arguably the duo's most enigmatic work to date in ‘Utopia'. Landing in October amidst support from Eelke Kleijn, Laurent Garnier and Nick Warren, the sleek yet powerful creation received remixes from iconic duo Hernan Cattaneo & Soundexile, along with rising Aussie talent Microlot. Now, presenting their first project of 2022, Madloch and Subnode return to Sound Avenue with the much anticipated ‘Bariloche', alongside remixes from Jean Caillou and Fabian Balino. 

Returning to the label and providing the first interpretation of ‘Bariloche' is Jean Caillou. First emerging in 2016, the Swiss artist quickly established himself with releases via Magician On Duty, RYNTH, Sag and Tre and Underyourskin Records, where his deep, melodious sound flourished. Moving forward, July of 2019 saw the Zurich resident make his Sound Avenue debut with a well-received remix of Joe Miller's ‘The Days'. A deep and enchanting creation which ultimately set the course for Jean to deliver two EPs and a remix over the next two years. Perhaps most lauded was last months ‘Simplon', a five-track showcase which quickly found favour with Atish, Be Svendsen and Nick Warren. Now returning to the label for his third remix, Jean dials in a lush interpretation of ‘Bariloche'. Taking inspiration from the original, the Swiss artist flexes his free-thinking muscles and crafts a version that lands comfortably between the surreal and exotic. Additional drive resonates from life-like pulses and deliberate percussion, while never letting go of its tranquil vibration and haunted minimalism, which ultimately makes this a late-night delight. 

The release concludes with Fabian Balino returning to the label and providing the second and final interpretation of ‘Bariloche'. Born in New York but raised in Uruguay, Fabian Balino is no stranger to the Sound Avenue label family, having released five originals and a remix since his debut via 2021's ‘Correlation' Vol. 4 collection. Also, an accomplished DJ, the New York resident has taken his groovy sound to the city's nightlife, performing at PHD Dream Downtown, XVI Rooftop and 1Oak, where he supported international star Felix Da Housecat. Continuing to build a bond with Sound Avenue, Fabian now returns to the label with a groovy take on ‘Bariloche'. Tempo and drive come up a touch as the piece takes shape, with siren-like tones and wavering sonics creating an air of anticipation. More enthralling yet is a heartfelt harmonic wave, gently rising as percussion flickers off in the distance, with the second of two breaks drawing closer. Tranquil tones and dulcet chord stabs intertwine as the interlude evolves, eventually reaching an understanded apex and soaring, key changing finale. A sensational interpretation from Fabian, making for a successful Sound Avenue return for himself, Jean Caillou, Madloch and Subnode.

Continuing to add new talent to their roster, Nikko.Z's Dopamine White welcomes Munz (AR) to the label for his debut EP. Argentinean artist Munz (AR) first emerged last year with a contribution to Another Life Music's popular ‘Autumn Vibes' collection. Immediately recognized for his classic progressive sound, the Cordoba resident would go on to appear on the Swiss imprint three additional times, along with Balkan Connection's BC2 and Droid9. Now adding Dopamine White to his resume, Munz (AR) unveils his most anticipated release to date ‘New Cosmos'. 

Coming in as one of Munz's most emotive productions to date, it is the uplifting qualities of the title selection which lead the release off. Played out over eight magical minutes, its warm pulsating groove, crunchy rhythms and heartfelt chord changes unite for goosebump worthy moments across the first act. A concise break sits at the core of the piece, evoking bucolic imagery as liquid-like melodies work in clever coaction, eventually breaking off into a tension filled drum roll, thumping drop and poignant finale.

Continuing in a progressive headspace are the equally impressive grooves of ‘Just Us'. Well in line with its predecessor, Munz marries electric rhythms and lively percussive arrangements over an energetic groove. Once again, nostalgic chord changes play throughout the storyboard, evoking a rollercoaster of emotions leading into the main break. Evolving further across the centrepiece, spoken word vocals create a compelling narrative, nicely juxtaposed with trance-inducing atmospheres as the beats drop for a suitably uplifting conclusion.

The release concludes in fine fashion with the deeper vibes of ‘Lucid Dreams'. Beginning with perfectly sculpted beats and a wide array of whimsical meanderings, it's a compelling creation from the start. Warm atmospheres and bubbly arps gently encase the framework, as smooth rhythms and chunky grooves drive momentum forward. An intense and colourful second act fully saturates your pleasure centres, before eventually melting down into one final, mesmerizing break, before a timely drop resets the groove for a stirring finale. It rounds out what is an inspired collection of music from Munz (AR), who has solidified himself as one Argentina's top emerging talents.

Industry veteran Ewan Rill drops his latest EP on a label that could be considered an industry legend by itself; Manual Music. Ewan's first releases date back to 2011 whilst Manual Music launched in 2005. All these years of combined experience have led to what you've got in front of you right now: the 'Empathy Revolution EP'. The perfect example that music is constantly evolving, as Ewan has incorporated his trademark progressive groove with phat gritty synths, giving each song a bit of a melodic edge. The arrangements do feel quite analogue and "techno" without loosing themselves in straight forward boringness.
