London producer Yosh continues his hot streak of putting out a twelve inch a month with typically breaksy, UK focused EP on Distant Horizons that further earmarks the emerging artist as one of the producers to watch in 2021.

Following releases on Time Is Now and an announcement on Desert Sound Colony’s Holding Hands sub-label, Yosh serves up four steppers that navigate us from the doors of the club to front left of the speaker. ‘Don’t Say’ is a fast cut of subby breakbeat-garage; the producer’s knack for emotionally stimulating vocal samples and peak-time basslines moving into the frame.

‘All That Acid’ gives squirming acid lines and stripped-back percussion, mutating the breaksy, UK energy into something more electro focused, and in doing so provides what could be the score for an old racing video game, before ‘Choose One’ takes us back into familiar Yosh territory with a cut of dreamy garage, with the odd dubby wobble for good measure.

We finish on a personal note with ‘Home’, a cut that epitomises that good feeling that can only come with returning to a place of comfort; relaxed atmospherics and 2-step rhythms providing the perfect warm up number.

MKII is one of the most prolific and well-regarded artists on the UK Garage scene, with his inimitable emotive style having found a home on 3000 Bass, Four40 and Southpoint.

Downplay is proud to welcome back London-based producer MKII to the label for his brand new EP, “Darkness”. Cultivating his inimitable sound into a landmark release for the artist, the EP sees MKII continue to mutate the modern 2-step sound into increasingly surreal sonic shapes. Retrofitting the core aesthetics of late 80s proto-rave with the new twist of future breaks, there’s an atmosphere of sinister melancholy reminiscent of early Omni Trio.

From the cinematic vibes of opening track ‘Darkness’ and ‘Spice’ through to the future garage sensibilities of ‘Tank’ and ‘Stranger’, this EP showcases an artist at the height of their capabilities creating a unique strain of UK Garage that is as focused on melody and mood as it is movement.

Slime Recordings is proud to present ‘Parisian Windows’, the debut album from Scottish producer Blackboxx.

Throughout the last decade, Blackboxx has been a name synonymous with deep, emotive electronica. From his fledgling early releases that flirted with the cinematic appeal of future garage through to his more organic downtempo cuts of recent years, he has maintained a gift for effortlessly drawing the listener in to his intimate soundscapes.

‘Parisian Windows’ sees the culmination of the Blackboxx journey so far, with an accomplished song cycle of meditative music that feels nuanced in it’s composi-tion and contemplative in it’s outlook. Recorded over the past few years as the artist moved halfway across the world for a new start, it’s as much a snapshot of a life in motion as it is a musical document of his progress as an artist.

Infused with a sense of melancholy and longing, the album expertly combines lush instrumentation with delicate percussion for a truly beguiling audio adven-ture that evokes hazy summer nights in far-flung places.
