Reflect(arg) - Skywalker

"Cargo Cult" EP is not just a collection of songs. This study of human tendency to create illusory systems of faith and rituals in pursuit of unattainable or false ideals, criticism of the consumer society and blind, as well as deep immersion in personal existential dead ends and disappointments. This is a powerful conceptual frame for creating a memorable, thinking and emotionally charged musical work; created, produced and mixed by mandruvá & Ruksby.

External imitation without understanding the essence, blind faith in the ritual as a means of achieving the desired, the gap between action and the real result, the creation of illusory systems to obtain an unattainable good. The combination of "primitive", acoustic, ethnic sounds (drums, percussion, folklore motifs) with cold, mechanistic electronics, industrial, noise. 

This reflects a mixture of traditional and modern, ritual and technology. Repeating rhythms, mantras, looped samples, increasing tension - creating a sensation of the transient state of the participants in the cult.

'Into The Jungle' is the first collaboration between Desert Hearts Records boss, Mikey Lion, alongside Sol Selectas Records honcho, Sabo. Both known for regularly droppin' tribalistic drum grooves, Mikey & Sabo bonded over a common love of music and a less common love of skateboarding. They both knew it was only a matter of time before they got in the studio together to make some magic. The title track 'Into The Jungle' is a deep, forward thinking tune that takes the listener on a ride through the mystical depths of the jungle. You can almost feel the energy of the jungle breathing down your neck as you make your way through the song's rises and falls. 'Lonely Boy's Mighty Jungle Mix' takes it up another notch as the same mystic synths from the original track build for nearly 4 minutes before exploding into a massive high energy drop. The result is a 9 minute epic that is sure to rock any peak time dance floor. The next track on the EP titled 'Sally', is a much darker, stomper of a tune you wouldn't normally expect from Mikey & Sabo. Laced with big kicks, heavy synths, and cryptic vocals to boot, 'Sally' was made for peak time in a dark warehouse. Finally, to round off the EP, 'Sally' gets remixed by badass Joyce Muniz who brings a cranking tech house vibe to the track. The bassline chugs along to constantly changing high hats until the acid synth at the end brings the whole thing home. In typical Desert Hearts fashion, this entire EP was made to crush dance floors.

Martin HERRS, DJ and producer.
Born in Spain in 1994. He creates a fusion of avant-garde and indigenous percussions that give meaning to the dance floor.
His interest in music began at a very young age, using various AKA's for moments in his life.
Absorbing new trends and always keeping the pulse of electronic dance music.

In his musical journey he releases music on Label such as Constant Circles, Omeni, Click Records, Annuna Music, Solar distance and some more releases that are expected in the next months such as MoBlack and Akbal

One of their projects is ANNUNA MUSIC, dedicated to the release of independent music based in Ibiza.
Annuna launched its first party concept in the summer of 2019 at Rooftop 9 (Sol House Ibiza), providing a sensory experience for the ears.

Southern California is a hotbed of talent in the dance music scene and one of the artists who is quickly ascending through the ranks is @Casmalia. Based out of San Diego, she’s been dominating the decks and delivering some truly hypnotic tunes that have landed on labels including Box of Cats, Hood Politics, My Techno Weighs A Ton, and Admit One, just to name a few.

While her skills in the studio are put on full display with her original releases like “Money,” “Alive,” and “Hold On,” Casmalia also has put her spin on a number of tracks like MK’s “17” and most recently, Big Boi’s “Kryptonite.” But she isn’t an artist who lives and breathes in the studio either, having taken the stage at festivals like Northern Nights and clubs like Spin in San Diego and Circle OC.

Shifting focus from live shows to livestreams during the pandemic, Casmalia has done everything from spinning high-quality sets to hosting production streams to help other artists in the scene continue to grow. As limited engagement shows resurface with serious social distancing measures in place, she’s also been announced to play at The Midway in San Francisco on August 27. (As long as those measures are followed and it goes ahead according to plan, of course.)

After stunning us with her releases and getting down and dirty to her mixes in the comfort of our own rave cave, when the opportunity to chat with Casmalia presented itself we jumped at the opportunity.
