Everything Merged Vol 1

‘Everything Merged’ is 3024’s second series of compilations featuring artists from the 3024 Mentoring Program. At the beginning of the pandemic, label owner Martyn started forming a lively online community of artists, providing them with ideas and inspiration. This community grew larger and larger, and musicians started to connect both online and offline, across continents and genres. It resulted in the “It Was Always There” series of compilations from 2021, and countless independent releases, radio appearances and gigs, putting a host of artists on the map.

Working on the program made Martyn and partner Jeroen Erosie reconsider the purpose of running a record label in 2022. ‘Are we still interested in putting out records via the usual channels?’ Or should a label become more of an umbrella for various activities by a larger community, both online and IRL, with digital and physical products, in other words merge everything into one.

“Everything Merged vol. 1” features the awesome music of a group of 3024 alumni from across the globe, interpreting the post-pandemic phase of electronic music each in their individual ways. There are the contemporary percussive meditations of Adam 2, Solair, Klont and Brooklynite No Sir, the 90s garage and rave inspired music of Karis, Agôn, Slovenia’s Hatterri and Noise Casino from Colombia. The exuberant technicolorist bangers of Guava, Blu-e and Cress and the deep hypnotic explorations of India’s Chhabb, MarceauxMarceaux and The Exhausted.

From the percussive mastery of Sister Zo, Arcane Prospect and Manchester's DR MYSTERY to the sly techno mutations of Kudeki, Clay Wilson and Pino Peña, this collection highlights the wide variety of sounds and influences inhibiting the current electronic scene. Especially check out the post-pando exuberance of uuklyph, Henry Kerins and Padoa and the bass mutations of Dutch duo TMSV & Case, Kenji Ko, Ragdy and Rex the Bard!

BRC :  "I’d say the mix was like water, a natural flow that we usually lock into when we’re DJing together."


3024: What DJ inspires you at the moment / has inspired you throughout the years and why?

BRC: "For inspirations, I’d say a lot of the greats who came before us that we’ve had the opportunity to perform with. Juan Atkins, Carl Craig, etc. We haven’t had the opportunity to perform with him yet but Goldie is also an inspiration. These are folks that paved their own way ya know."



3024: What are you working on / what have you got forthcoming? 

BRC: "BRC 3 is in the works and is slated for release next year. We also have individual projects slated for release next year also."

I first met Leon Vynehall in Berlin before a gig at the amazing About_Blank. We had a fun conversation and he played a really good set that night. Much later I realized I had been playing one of his tracks ("Total S") for ages!  We stayed in touch and I asked if I could hear some of his new music. He sent me five tracks and I signed four, that's a pretty good score if you ask me! Smart and conscious about his music and his output, I think this EP is really only the beginning for Leon Vynehall. I'm glad I'm able to give it a platform and share these amazing tracks with you. Also special props to D&M for doing a great mastering job on these..

What do clouds sound like?  For 3024's first release of 2023, we are super proud to present an exploration of that question by the amazing Italian-Ivorian producer Ehua on her new EP.  

"Clouds EP" consists of four sonically and energetically varied tracks inspired by the paradoxical nature of these mood-shifting objects, suspended in space. They can be heavy or light, menacing or comforting, distraught or at ease. They are still but in motion, they can cause fear and confusion or give you strength, awareness and empowerment.  Ehua's music combines live handmade percussion and flutes (the ancient Duduk on Nefele and recorder on Vola) with fierce drum programming and synth work.  This is music for the mind and the 'floor! Enjoy.

3024: Please describe the mix in a single sentence ?

Tristan Arp:  120-180/90bpm freakouts, unexpected blends and slippery rhythms with some mischievous plot twists.


3024: What DJ inspires you at the moment / has inspired you throughout the years and why?

Tristan Arp:  DJ Firmeza from the Principe Discos family is one of my favorite DJs in the world. It’s always madness and ecstatic when he plays and the joy he gets from playing is infectious and life-affirming. 


3024: What are you working on / what have you got forthcoming?

Tristan Arp: Coming up this year are a couple of polyrhythmic bass EPs for 3024 in the summer and NYC’s Slink in the fall. First Japan tour coming up this summer! Meanwhile I’m challenging myself to explore and experiment all I can with my second full-length album. Also, my collaborators in Asa Tone, Melati and Kaazi, were able to come from Indonesia to Mexico City in February to work on our 2nd album. It was our first time making new tunes together in the same room since pre-pandemic, which was so rejuvenating for my collaborative spirit and spirit in general.

3024 TAPES 003 : Tristan Arp

Three years after their first collaboration, culminating in the release of “The Passenger”, Om Unit and Martyn are back on 3024 with another four track exploration of tempo and vibrations on a new EP called “AJ^6”.

The two ‘veteran’ producers have been highly prolific over the past years, with Om Unit making waves with his massive Acid Dub Studies project as well as new work under his Philip D. Kick alias, and Martyn spearheading and mentoring a robust group of new musicians responsible for no less than five (!) compilations on 3024. What brings the two producers together in the studio once again is the constant hunger for new and interesting sounds on the outer rim of the ‘bass continuum’. Instead of tirelessly rehashing old tropes they are continuously inspired to write new music that’s both current as well as firmly in their aesthetic profile.

‘Basilisk’ and ‘The Trenches’ are great examples of the duo blending odd tempos with dub wise heaviness. ‘Basilisk’ has already been doing some serious damage on the dance floor with its punchy 107 beat structure and headzy breakdown, while the almost imperial march of ‘The Trenches’ introduces a bubbly bass line. ‘Illroy’ and ‘Dragonfly’ both inhabit a dreamier, more melodic universe and have a timeless, ambivalent quality to them, somewhere between a lost b-side of an early 00s Hospital Records release and something on Scuffed. 3024: Please describe the mix in a single sentence ?

I thought I’d make a mix in the currently popular yet controversial 140-160bpm range, as there’s some amazing music in this space between techno and jungle that doesn’t revolve around straight kicks, and I think it deserves more attention.

3024: What DJ inspires you at the moment / has inspired you throughout the years and why?

Throughout the years.. well apart from this guy Martyn I’d have to say Andi Baumecker. I don’t know many DJs with such a depth of knowledge across so many genres. His passion for music is relentless and continuously inspiring.

Recently I’ve been really into Polygonia. Brilliant producer and DJ from Munich creating ethereal worlds through sound so convincing you can almost step into them. I went to see her open Berghain last September and it was incredible, like being in a rainforest on acid. 

3024: What are you working on / what have you got forthcoming?

There’s a new EP coming this summer which will be announced soon, and a few remixes before that, for Jakojako and Hercules & Love Affair (with Mr Baumecker). Otherwise, I’m having fun developing a new live set involving MIDI controlled lights, which I premiered at Superbooth last week.

3024 TAPES 005 : Barker

3024 are very proud to present a new EP by Mexico City based luminary Tristan Arp.

'End of a Line or Part of a Circle?' hints at timelines, lifecycles, and the shifting perspectives that come with zooming out from a human lens. The insect club universe of “Panspecies Rights” imagines the sound of every life form rising up in protest, while the title track as well as “Branching Streams” outline a snaking labyrinth of musical paths and plot twists.

A club-not-club hybrid of dance-floor freakouts and downtempo zones, the EP shows Tristan Arp’s range as a producer, as encouraged by Martyn throughout the making of the record. While “A Livable Earth” sits somewhere between wide-eyed fantasy and precarious reality, “The Language Change,” imagines a new language for non-human collaboration.

Tristan Arp is co-founder of the Human Pitch collective alongside Simisea, formed while living in New York before moving to Mexico City in 2019. He is also a frequent collaborator with Kellen303 (for unknown untitled), Nico for Grid and as a member of the group Asa Tone (on Leaving Records).

Yushh: A good level of nuts and emotions 

3024: What DJ inspires you at the moment / has inspired you throughout the years and why?

Yushh : Tom Boogizm has played some of my favourite sets over the past couple of years. Unexpected twists and turns but always huge vibes. I’m lucky in Bristol to be around people like Bruce and Batu who’ve always been inspiring to me as DJs - Love the way they carve out their sets in a unique and unpredictable way. I-sha is also a huge inspiration - her sets don’t even sound like dj sets more like a live - so considered and patient and incredible selections. 


3024: What are you working on / what have you got forthcoming?

Yushh : I’ve just finished up a few remixes which should be dropping pretty soon and hoping to finish up another EP and maybe even a mini album by the end of the year. Otherwise I'm looking forward to diving headfirst into festival season then heading to Asia and Auz later in the year for the first time which is crazy exciting.

After debuting on 3024 in July 2021 with "I See Faces in the Trees" on the label's first Artist Mentorship Compilation, we are very proud to present Talik's Firefly EP. 

On this record, the London-based producer explores and experiments with the twitchy, flickering movements of animals of the night, their behaviors perhaps analogous to our own in dark and loud rooms surrounded by strangers- alone but together.  Through four beautiful tracks we are shown a more energetic side of Talik's music, layered with the moods of her earlier work for Intercept, Pressure Dome and Control Freak.

The city of Rotterdam in The Netherlands was of vital importance to the birth of 3024, (both Martyn and Jeroen Erosie lived there for a few years, and the label was named after its zip code!)  It's a bit of a full circle moment to be able to welcome Mike & Joginda aka Black Cadmium to our mix series!


3024: Please describe the mix in a single sentence ?

BC: This is black/afro electronics


3024: What DJ inspires you at the moment / has inspired you throughout the years and why?

BC: Prominent Detroit techno artists like Juan Atkins, Jeff Mills, Kevin Saunderson, Robert Hood have inspired us a lot till this day, but also Rotterdam local hero Benny Rodrigues still triggers us, as well as Ben UFO and his hybrid sound and all-rounders Acemoma. But most of all we inspire each other.


3024: What are you working on / what have you got forthcoming?

BC: At the moment we are mainly busy giving shape and direction to our label and event organization GLXY. We just dropped a compilation with very cool local artists and we have a brand new release forthcoming on Omnidisc, from label owner and Miami based Danny Daze! Really can't wait for this one.

3024 TAPES 007 : Black Cadmium

Otik - Cosmosis
Release date: 24 November 2023

London-based producer Otik releases his first album 'Cosmosis' on Martyn's label 3024. The 11-track LP signifies the fourth album on the imprint across its ten-year tenure, showcasing a more introspective side to Otik's musical output.

The album leans into delicate melodies, hazy atmospheres and lush analogue sounds, often evoking blissed-out feels and ripples of brilliant colour. Produced three years ago during lockdown, 'Cosmosis' comes after a period of spiritual struggles, where Otik questioned his faith, religious beliefs, and the concepts of right and wrong. While the pandemic allowed ample time for reflection, Otik translated these thoughts into music from his Peckham-based studio, later finding a home on 3024's evolving discography.

Following Otik's EP 'Soulo' in 2021, 'Cosmosis' marks the second release from the Bristol-born DJ and producer on 3024. This time, his sound stems from a broader palette, touching on slower, aerated ambient notes through to rugged D'n'B, displaying the far-reaching breadth, vision and maturity of Otik's aesthetic.

Keen to release a body of work that explores the journey of enlightenment and the struggles to get there, Otik drew inspiration from the luminary filmmaker Terrence Malick and how Malick portrayed ideas and philosophies in films like The Tree of Life and Voyage of Time. As a result, the record conveys a compelling narrative of rebirth, told through exquisite sound design and a push-pull pace that oscillates across the album.

The lead single 'Cosmosis' binds astral breakbeats with a star-lined melody stitched against a spacious backdrop. Sparse, celestial vocals punctuate the soundscape and add a spiritual feel, culminating in a dazzling trip at just over five minutes.

3024: Jasmín, can you describe your mix in a single sentence ?

Playing in the middle of a very fun night made me pick my boldest tracks in the playlist I had prepared, including a bunch of UK classics. 

3024: What DJ inspires you at the moment / has inspired you throughout the years and why?

So many of them, but Batu is always a favourite of mine. He plays eclectic, but it always comes together as a whole. I saw him close De School in December on a Timedance night I had opened, and I just had to stay until the end (somewhat past 8:00), because I was really dancing, but he also kept me so curious about what he was going to play next. It’s a true skill to be able to surprise people without it feeling too random, and keep up a groove for the whole set at the same time. 

3024: What are you working on / what have you got forthcoming?

Right now I’m just trying to make a lot of different tracks to eventually have a good amount of music to choose from for a full EP. Not sure yet what’s going to come out of that. So nothing forthcoming yet. Between DJing, some freelance work, and life (lol), it’s not always easy to find a full day where I can sit down and completely focus on making music. I’m hoping 2024 is the year of the great workflow for me!

Otik returns to the 3024 imprint with “Cloud Runner”, his third release on the influential label. The music on this EP is loosely based on the musical interpretations of the London-based producer’s favorite movies, an approach he previously explored while introducing his audience to the music from his debut album “Cosmosis”, which was released late last year. This EP once again shows Otik’s versatility and breadth, with tracks spanning charting various BPMs and moods while still maintaining his signature aesthetic.

3024: Otik, can you describe your mix in a single sentence?

"An ethereal and drum heavy journey between 160 and 170bpm, which includes old and new inspirations for my recent ‘Cloud Runner’ EP on 3024."

3024: What DJ inspires you at the moment / has inspired you throughout the years and why?

"I’ve actually talked about this recently, but I’ve always been in awe of Midland’s sets. The way he can read a crowd and create heart stopping moments on the spot with ease has really inspired me to become a better DJ."

3024: What are you working on / what have you got forthcoming?

"I’m currently finishing up two records for the same label, I can’t say who yet but I’m really happy with how they sound. The music focuses a bit more on the dance floor, 4x4 rhythms and sits within the 135-140pm range, which I haven’t experimented with for a while."

MARTYN - THROUGH LINES (COMPILATION LP)

Welcome to “Through Lines”, a collection of hand picked tracks by genre nomad and bass innovator Martyn, made between 2005 and 2015, carefully recovered and remastered for vinyl and digital release on 3024. Previously only available on 12” across a scattering of different labels, this set includes essential ‘Martyn Music’ (as the producer likes to classify it); tracks like “Vancouver” (A 140 staple to this day), “Mega Drive Generation” and his classic remix of TRG’s
“Broken Heart”, as well as deeper cuts like the rare "Friedrichstrasse” and house gem “For Lost Relatives”. “Through Lines” comes with a 40-page booklet featuring a collection of essays Martyn has written about the era, music making in general and these tracks in particular, designed by Jeroen Erosie.

This is not just a compilation of remastered music, it’s a document of an era of UK inspired dance music where ideas, genres, tempos and scenes seemed to rapidly merge and splinter off. An exciting time where producers constantly tried to one-up each other with new ideas and influences, in a vibrant international scene of small club nights from FWD>> and DMZ in London to Red Zone (co-run by Martyn) in the periphery, the earliest online forums like Dubstepforum and radio shows like Dj Flight’s BBC 1xtra show and Mary Anne Hobbs’ Breezeblock. Innovation in music never happens in a vacuum and is always a product of community, producers, writers, and other makers continuously inspiring and pushing each
other to come up with the next thing. This ethos is present in all of Martyn’s music throughout the years, but also in his work with Jeroen Erosie as 3024 and within the 3024 Mentoring Program he runs today.

The third installment of 3024′s KJL series is a reissue of a track off my first album “Great Lengths”. “Is This Insanity?” was the first collaboration with the inimitable vocalist and great friend Stephen Gordon a.k.a. The Spaceape – who sadly passed away on October 2nd 2014. The song was written shortly after Stephen’s daughter was born and deals with the rollercoaster of emotions one goes through taking care of a new life. You carry on because there’s a responsibility, but at the same time you ask yourself whether this is insanity? The tune got a massive boost in 2010 in the shape of Ben Klock’s monumental remix of it. That record has been out of stock for ages, so I put that on the B-side here for you. I treat this record as a memory but you’re more than welcome to bang it out in the club of course! Enjoy..“

3024 is back with another fully loaded release bringing together an unlikely band of artists into a surprisingly coherent Various Artists EP. Label owner Martyn kicks off the show with the twisted UKG reese bass roller "Frozen Bread Snaps", followed by a nifty dnb workout by Sin, Gremlinz & Jesta called "Door of Guf". The flip features UK "hard drum" master Noire with the headzy "Ballas" and last but certainly not least there's the sonic bliss of "Dusty Glass Bubbles" by the inimitable Parris. Enjoy!
