Picking up on the launch of Marie Montexier’s Paryìa label with a trippy EP by a.b.u.3.0.3., the second release comes from the Dublin based shooting star Small Crab.

The Skin & Blister founding member delivers three percussive breaky tracks that highlight a wide range of her musical influences. Combining smooth textures with tribal rhythms the ’Flowing with Honey’ EP perfectly rounds off with a bass heavy remix by London based producer Talik, who recently gained attention through highly acclaimed releases on 3024 and Intercept.

Fittingly, Control Freak's first full length LP comes from the artist who launched our imprint near-on 4 years ago. @keplrr's ‘Petra’ is a remarkable entry into the canon of contemporary ‘non-functional’ techno.

After a string of acclaimed EPs and singles, the South London-based DJ/producer brings his unique ear for sound design to the forefront across his debut album, a continuous piece with many recurring musical themes and motifs. Drifting between dream states and the psychedelic, ‘Petra’ sees Keplrr set aside the rigid constraints of club music and delve deep into the wells of the subconscious.

The album moves deftly through styles: meandering ambient/downtempo pieces, including a collaboration with classically trained Jazz singer Livi Graham, to the deep & techno-influenced ‘Two Prophets Lay Here’, reaching its crescendo in the IDM-inflected ‘Celestial Body’.

Premiere: Talik 'Gripping Dust'

The night was young but it already seemed ever so frantic and free in the club. It was as if they had already been there for hours as they danced and moved between the flickering lights as smoke began to fill the air. From the corner of his eye he watched as fellow dancers and revellers continued to file down the stairs and into the murky abyss below.

Perhaps this was his favourite time of the night? The quiet calm before the storm – the music loud but not yet punishing, the pace moody and slow in time with his swaying hips.

He watched as the world beneath became busier and one by one the people came and went. This was a special place, that much was true. Perhaps 10-11 was the best time of all?

Redstone Press continue in the pursuit of leftfield Bass music and harder sounds – the next EP on the label coming from Tano and featuring remixes by the likes of Toumba and Delay Grounds. This one features off piste rhythms and percussion – keeping the energy flowing in the best and weirdest of ways.

On this record, the London-based producer explores and experiments with the twitchy, flickering movements of animals of the night, their behaviors perhaps analogous to our own in dark and loud rooms surrounded by strangers- alone but together.  Through four beautiful tracks we are shown a more energetic side of Talik's music, layered with the moods of her earlier work for Intercept, Pressure Dome and Control Freak.

Welcome to Lacuna, a new imprint by Dublin-based DJ Cachai that aims to map out prescient club sounds from artists around the globe. Chile’s Ripio and London’s DJ Double Oh! are up first with a split EP showcasing four exhilarating tracks of hybridised latinx bass sounds from across both sides of the Atlantic.


Lacuna… an unfilled space… a label recognising an opportunity to add to the dynamic conversations within the global bass music paradigm. Cachai, its founder, envisions this bright future via a sonic dialogue between artists from distinct corners of the world that opt to swerve dancefloor norms to instead forge new vistas through sub-heavy sounds and futurist rhythms. Its inaugural release features Ripio and DJ Double Oh!, presenting their inimitable interpretations of the latinx sounds.

 

Ripio kicks off the first half, landing with Aterrizaje. A chunky bassline ignites the reggaeton rhythm, while sharp saws percolate around its heated core. Mejor en español opts for a moodier groove, upping the tempo with a sharper dembow groove that pervades with a melancholy mist throughout.


DJ Double Oh! tags in for the second half, riding a patient tribal groove on Arranca with a glorious momentum that’ll have dancefloors sweating with warm-adled glee. BDYWRK heats up the ‘floor with its futurist soca rhythmic complexions, affecting its minimalist percussive drive with dub fx along its pumping journey.

Her thoughts were bubbling, they ran wild and recklessly from subject to subject taking up brainspace. She looked through glass eyes, glazed and distant by what sat behind.

Wandering between the cars, the people, the noise. She was simply lost in her own little world, delighted and happy to be at a disconnect from it all. It was magic up here.

The rain was falling heavily, puddles were forming by the corners of the road. It would only get colder and wetter from here but meanwhile she felt warm.

Talik appears on a new compilation celebrating five years of Pressure Dome. Her track is excellent, deep and weaving. The label invites friends and family to contribute as they mark a special milestone.
