Saytek is back on his Cubism imprint this June with the ‘Live (not) on Tour’ release featuring five tracks taken from live streams over last year. 

Over the past few years, UK artist, Saytek (aka Joseph Keevill) has carved himself a reputation as one of the electronic music scene's most innovative live acts thanks to his impressive improvised shows. 

Saytek has been described by Cox as "Absolute Genius when it comes to live" - a sentiment echoed by his fans and many across the industry due to his mastery of machines (including analogue synths, sequencers and drum machines) combined with unique energy and an ear for melody. His sound is broad and genre-defying, taking listeners on a journey through underground house, acid & techno that is tough yet intricate and deep. Saytek's esteemed "Live On Tour" series features an accumulation of live tracks recorded at shows over the years and has been met with acclaim from Carl Cox, Nicole Moudaber and John Digweed, who all supported on their renowned radio shows. 

Due to the pandemic, "Live On Tour" was brought to a close, but this period has led to Saytek creating more live material than ever with various live streams performed over the last year. Saytek is keen to keep releases flowing on Cubism, so the tracks on offer here were recorded live during Saytek's streams and edited out with next to no post-production. 

The five tracks display Saytek's energetic production prowess with uplifting atmospheres, rolling grooves and invigorating synthesis featuring throughout the cuts.

Each copy sold will plant a tree in the Amazon Rainforest thanks to a partnership with "One Tree Planted". As climate change and ecological crises intensify, all of the SolarSoundSystem branches are joining forces more than ever to make culture a mouthpiece for environmental causes. Over the years, the organization, that has been minimizing carbon impacts in parties and music festivals, has been fortunate enough to be supported by renowned international artists and wishes to honor them, show gratitude, and freeze this support forever ! "Solar Tracks # 01", of which the first 300 copies will be numbered, carries 6 tracks of DJs and producers that have been playing on the SolarSoundSystems these past twenty years, from the United Kingdom, France, Switzerland, Basque Country, Mexico and Israel. PREMIERE #767 | Gregorythme - The Party Is Over (Solar Edit) [SolarSoundSystem] 2020

When reaching the heart of darkness alley and staring into the bassbins, feeling the low frequency soundwaves pounding rhythmically into the chest, there is only one thing you can do and that is to allow the kick drum to carry you away, it doesn't even matter where.
Alvaro Cabana takes control here and made an epic, otherworldly electro-acid beast which kicks hard and deliberate, hi hats that slice like switchblades and attack laden bleeps that bite hard into your cranium. This one builds and builds and builds peaks but somehow remains cool, synth-esque stabs, congas and toms decorate it like sugarskulls with pads on the breakdown wonky synths and heavy distorted appregio just before the drop kicks in. Six and a half minutes of an epic stomper which will surely carry you away. Just remember, you're safe in the dark alley, for now.

Saytek ‘Live On Tour Volume 1'

Premiere: Saytek - Where My Sound Lives (Live) [Cubism]

Strohm is the solo project by the young musician from Zurich, with which he is experimenting into different directions within electronic music. Strohm often gets inspired by field recordings or starts with raw live jams to use them as a basis for some sound design. His tracks are typically a little rough and include somewhat disturbing elements.
Schemes builds on a 3/4 industrial driven beat that Strohm wrote over a year ago. Just recently he revisited the idea and in a few sessions added the vocals to it, which center on the theme of shaping relationships rather than letting them evolve naturally. His friend came up with some synth pads and arpeggios, which helped to complete the track. 
Schemes is part of a compilation of the Futur8000 collective, which is based in Zurich and aims to unite young up-and-coming artists and producers from Switzerland and around the world by offering them a platform. On the compilation many different genres come together. Schemes represents the more raw, EBM and industrial inspired side of electronic music.

Our choice was Monsterotico where they've kept the reverse noises that punctuate this wavy mix and rebuilt it into a kick of acid laden beast of a builder which for the first minute or so, one might be mistaken in thinking it is not going to break into a heavy noisy techno track but they did it. Peak time atomic bomb. Get in.

This Is Our Time welcomes Aspetuck from the US to their label family with 'The Time Capsule Experiment' EP. His three original tracks are ranging from house, breakbeat to electro but all of them come with a nice twist. Jazzy chord & odd vocoder sounds accompany a cosmic soundscape on the EP starter 'Lift Point' and with tweaked chirps & eastern strings on a bare breakbeat, 'The Time Capsule Experiment' is definitely the most leftfield one on this EP. Closing off the release is the sinister electro 'Solace' of which we can only imagine a demon-summoning tribal ritual was the inspiration.
The EP comes with two remixes. Jeigo's rethinking of the title track is a meetup of two worlds: an aerial stomper for closing your set in the early morning hours. The dubby trance remix of 'Lift Point' is from the label boss Route 8 - his synth pads have never been so trippy like this!

HYPER OPAL follow up with a rousing single on Blizzard Audio Club entitled ‘A Light Speed’ off their forthcoming album.
HYPER OPAL is a multinational post-rock, electronica pop-hybrid comprised of Marie Hoffmann (V4NT4BL4CK) and Tidiane Cacique (Leave Things) who are the co-creators of Nordpath Records. Combining the unique elements of their native lands (Germany and France), the duo's sound is focused on the remains of humanity as seen through a technological line of sight, that is in part fueled by the progressive environment of Berlin. The moody vocals of Marie Hoffmann come to the listener as if her spirit were trapped inside the water, her soul wandering the woodlands. This combined with the passionate, sometimes rebellious, haunted rhythms of Tidiane creates a style of music some refer to as empathy driven "Tech Noir”. The duo deliver their debut album on the new Swiss imprint Blizzard Audio Club this September following on from releases from Pavel and E&A Rüeger,
‘A Light Speed’ is a deeply emotive cut featuring brooding vocals and rousing pads that shine underneath all in harmony with shoegaze laced atmospheres and hypnotic melodies fluttering throughout.
“We started to create this song in summer 2018, which was the first remarkable hot and dry summer. For months there had been no rain and everyone who does not live too much in the city bubble knew the price of this dryness will be paid by the flora and fauna for long-term. Gras, bushes, young trees with insufficiently deep roots were suffering and died. The thistles I walk on represent this dryness and pain, and the sentimentality when remembering the former green meadow. In early autumn we went to Dordogne (countryside in France) where you could get a real impression of what is going on in the nature. Dried out rivers and meadows, yellow was the new green. Not one year later Friday for Future was called out and more protests than ever opened up. We know that we caused this extreme climate, but in the moment it arrives, we are defenseless and delivered. I shot there a series of overexposed pictures. So, the only thing I could do was to document the horror and try to calm down.” - HYPER OPAL

NEP was a loose multimedia collective formed in 1982 Zagreb, ex-Yugoslavia. The founder Dejan Krsic collaborated with various artists in a quest of re-thinking the stale concepts of art history, position of the author and the barriers between pop and elitist high culture. Heavily influenced by Walter Benjamin and Andy Warhol in theory and Brian Eno and Kraftwerk in music, Krsic created NEP as an umbrella term (NEP meaning Nova Evropa or New Europe) of diverse rule-breaking activities, covering graphic design, music, photography, video, news-media and theoretical work. 
Musically NEP focused on experiments in ambient and tape-music, self-released and hard to find compilation tapes like “The Cassette Played Poptones” (1988). Deeply immersed in pop-culture, politics and art theory Dejan Krsic’s search for perfect pop music with cutting critical edge peaked in 1989, the year 'Decadance' track was conceived in studio. Fox & His Friends team (Leri Ahel & Zeljko Luketic) published the extended 12” single in 2017 with Snuffo Remix on B-side. It received rave reviews in music media like MixMag and DJ Mag and it is still played on dance-floors around the world. But the story around the NEP is musically (as well as artistically) much wider: for the first time Fox & His Friends team compiles best cuts from unreleased and rare NEP self-released tapes, covering the period from 1985 to 1989 on seminal POP NOT POP abum. 
Dejan Krsic is now famous graphic designer and art historian in Croatia. Other collaborators include Laibach and Borghesia photographer Jane Stravs, artist and TV director Gordana Brzovic, Jovan Culibrk, now Bishop at The Serbian Orthodox Church and Anja Rupel, singer of cult Yugoslavian synth-pop group Videosex as well as the other members of Videosex, Iztok Turk and Janez Krizaj who produced some of the tracks. Other collaborators were talented producers Robert Logozar and Davor Daga Devcic, singers Linda Cooper, Natalija, Alexx Kovacs, Goran Vejvoda... The list of collaborations is long. 
Some of the memorable moments on POP NOT POP album are early demo version of Decadance track 'How Do I Dance To This Music?' with porn samples and drum machine experiments in the spirit of cut’n’paste early Cabaret Voltaire, then Krsic's reinterpretation of legendary Kraftwerk’s Trans Europe Express anthem as 'Transcendance', or 'Radical Chic', where Dejan himself and Anja Rupel from Videosex make lovely couple of dandy-esque fashionistas, singing chart-friendly radio synthpop tune that contrasts the A-side (The 'NOT POP' side) - full of experiments, dark wave and industrial nods to Test Department and low-fi period of Cabs. B-side is 'THE POP' side that will surprise most of the NEP followers from their early experimental cassette days. Sunny, danceable, joyfull pop that reveals the many unknown faces of NEP. 
As Kraftwerk today is more of a concept than a band, NEP does the same by re-writing its products (musical, graphical, theoretical, activist) and constantly puts them in permanent state of change or re-mix. In the future, only NEP logo will be enough to consider something an art piece, and NEP will be everybody who wants to, as their Art Manifest (parts of it cited on the gatefold cover) claims. Until that day comes, ‘POP NOT POP’ is a document of how the vivid and creative were underground art scenes in socialist Yugoslavia. Some of the graphic work, cut-ups from theory and Manifesto are also included on this LP, designed by Dejan Krsic himself. This release is made from the original master tapes and published for the first time on vinyl.
