Jamie Paton makes music that could be described as “Leftfield techno” or “Slowmotion house”. “Disk Memories” is his second release on Höga Nord Rekords and Paton still work in the same spirit as on the previous HNR release from 2017.
“Disk Memories” is barren electronic music for the Brexit generation. Paton has established a dystopic electronic sound that aims straight at your frontal lobe, burns in your bones, and projects a lost Europe’s anxiety on the grey London skies.
The music breathes of the cold 1980’s, a time of crisis in England’s history and a vibe to be recognize in today’s society: right-wing winds once again blows hard over the British Isles and Jamie Paton’s music catches the insecurity the wind carries with it.

In this first days of 2019 we have the fantastic new track from Discos Capablanca's Golpe De Estado - 'Liquido'...
When we say 'new' this is a track which has existed in some shape or form for a decade, a production from Hugo Capablanca and Oklo Gabon was reportedly rejected from a label for being too weird.  A decade on Marc Piñol heard the track, was blown away by it and asked Hugo to remix it.
The result is a shonky New York influenced lo intensity houser chock full of live instrumentation.  Bongos, sax, flute and freejazz which would not sound out of place in a Kenny Dope or Louie Vega set, think Nu Yorcian Soul remade in the Catalan and you are somewhere near close, but not close enough. 
Do yourself a favour, hit play melt away.

PREMIERE | Golpe De Estado - Liquido (Marc Piñol Remix) [Discos Capablanca] 2019

In a post truth world with an emboldened far right, JD Twitch and JG Wilkes have decided to make a stand and have branched out with a new sub label from the mighty Optimo Trax, called AF Trax, an abreviation of Against Fascism Trax. 
Optimo have put together a manifesto which firmly nails their political leanings to the post. Challenging the idea that music and politics don't mix, they assert that if it can be used in music to tackle ignorance and to celebrate the struggles and marginalisation which led to dance music becoming such a thriving global scene, then dance music is overtly political after all. All profits generated by the label will be donated to Hope Not Hate, the UK based anti-racism organisation. 
One of the highlights from the debut EP on the label from Guy Veale AKA Logtoad is the quirky but deadly drum laden analogue zinger which is Ratchet Beat.  Beats, breaks and hi hats jot out a complex rhythmic journey before being punctuated by dirty acid bass leaving us in no doubt that the key battles fought against fascism will be on the dancefloor.

PREMIERE | Logtoad - Ratchet Beat [Against Fascism Trax] 2019

Kalahari Oyster Cult are shedding light on an old classic via a new series of reissues called Kalahari Oyster Tribe.  First up is the hyper obscure Le Batterie reissuing 'Let There Be Drums' and 'Shogun'. 
Both tracks on this EP have been no stranger to unofficial edits, Kalahari Oyster Tribe opt to give this classic EP the love in deserves drafting in the magnificently talented Benedikt Frey to give this 1983 Discogs rarity it's first official remix (along with Max Abysmal's equally brilliant remix).
Frey's mix certainly lets the drums do the talking with his trademark analogue thunderous bottom end while taking some of the toppier parts and bringing them into the forefront of the track, taking an all the best elements of the original while adding his own dark twist, a sound which he has cultivated over the years with releases and remixes on ESP Institute, Hivern Discs, Phantasy and LDDLM amongst others. Kalahari have proved themselves worthy diggers by unearthing this classic piece of French Electronica and they have been kind enough to get one of the most talented producers out there to polish it up and deliver it to you rougher than ever.

Bio

Born in Berlin in the early 90's and raised by it's unique underground sound, Hephaistos found his emotional shelter in fast rhythms and progressive melodies. He started producing music at an early age and always liked to experiment with different musical styles and approaches. Now taking things to a more serious matter, Hephaistos is remembering his darker roots and exposes his feelings underlined with driving basslines.

I Get Harder

Forever is in multiplicity and mutation. Musician and visual artist Nicola Tirabasso (VISIO), together with Haunter founders Daniele Guerrini and Francesco Birsa Alessandri called for a collective effort in order to celebrate these elements of experience. In opposition to linear notions of time itself. An attempt to let perceptions of future and past bleed together, to establish every moment as an infinite process of consumption and re-generation. A compilation of 33 artists, each contributing in their own peculiar style, adding their own blends to the palette and exposing the lineage of their work. It is precisely to state that the perennial immanence of difference is what constitutes the basis for true unity, that the curators have grouped an utterly diverse cast of contributors, whose output strikes a vastity of moods and textures, and grows out of very distinct intentionalities and backgrounds. Making kin without borders, letting mutual support evolve into a chimeric infinity.

ZULI & Broshuda - Vector Cloak

Höga Nord is a label which has gone from strength to strength over the past few years with a 'rules are there are no rules' music policy. Whether releasing prog rock, 80s tinged electro or cosmic disco, there seems to be no genre that Höga Nord isn't prepared to tinker with in looking for that perfect sound. Latest in their catalogue is Global Music's - Hither Green/Shelley.
Much in the same way that London's Hither Green sits on the edge of Lewisham and Deptford, Global Music's Hither Green sits on the edge of Jungle and Breakbeat. Whether it's the Think or the Amen, it's warm and seems to take a sideways glance at the mid 90s rave scene while taking in influences like Aphex Twin and LFO. 
The artist themselves are cloaked in mystery. Little is known about them apart from the fact that they are from Gothenburg.
We can conject that they were likely listening Nicky Blackmarket Tape Packs and watching youtube clips of raves at Dreamscape and Labyrinth while producing this fantastic double sider. PREMIERE #557 | Global Tracks - Hither Green [Höga Nord] 2019

Marco Uson is a young Producer of Columbian and Spanish origin, treading the line between ambient and techno, this track easily falls into the former with not a hint of percussion in sight, filling the sound register with atmospherics which drift out of your speakers and into the deep dark recesses of the universe. Beginning of a long travel evokes space and distance and time and all of the other variables which permeate the Space/Time Continuum.
Uson has released on Iboga and Resopal Schallware, and previously received support from Christian Varela, Richie Hawtin and Marco Carola.
This latest release comes through Marco's own label 'Uzons Records' and demonstrates a maturity far beyond the stratosphere.
If journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, so does a journey that goes into inner or outer space so why not take that first step and make your magical journey through this ethereal soundscape.

PREMIERE #558 | Marco Uson - The Beginning Of A Long Travel [Uzons Records] 2019

Label In Disarray have been kind enough to deliver this hammer blow from Raw Ambassador, having already released on Alesandro Adriani's Mannequin Records, and this exactly the type of noise people have come to expect from this EP of Goth infused machine funk which does not relent from the opening riff. It comes on like a tramadol coated in napalm wrapped around a brick made of lead. caked in barbed wire.
Drums stagger from half to double time while giving no quarter in terms of intensity while a distorted square-tooth oscillator pierces through the listener's soul as if it's made from paper.    
This is heavy, heady EBM and the title gives more than a nod to DAF and Absolute Body Control both in title and in sound. Kicks like cannons, snares like the snap of an AK-47.
Having released Cassette EPs from the Autumns, L/F/D/M as well as the label boss Sixteen Steps; Raw Ambassador joins this exclusive roster of producers who specialise in uncompromising sounds. The Sounds of a label in disarray.

Probably named after a sublime song from English visionary producer Robert Wyatt, the freshly born Age Of Self is a brand new label/platform, built to stay genre-proof and without musical boundaries. As its very first release, they deliver 3 obscure club-not-club edits from the two Tel Aviv legends Nadav Spiegel and Maor Anava AKA Autarkic & Hectik.
This sophomore EP boasts a set of well picked edits which features the wonderful ‘Shit I Know’, which nods to Anava and Speigel’s love of japanese folklore. With a track guaranteed to light up the most tripped out wonky dancefloors. 
A slow paced broken beat mingles with a sludgy baseline, detuned guitars and a chanted vocal to create a slo-mo, lo-fi, creeper of a track which calmly (but not sensibly) gets those feet moving. 
Age of Self might well be a comment on the atomisation of society, it might be a phrase which rolls off the tongue nicely but whatever it means, however well you need to know yourself, this is one that you don’t want to listen to alone, Shit I know is best enjoyed with friends and loud, and can only leave you feeling excited for what else is to come from Anava and Spiegel’s new mouthpiece for a programme of music where anything goes. PREMIERE #560 | Autarkic & Hectik - The Shit i Know [Age Of Self] 2019

My Friend Dario and Hell Yeah label boss Marco Gallerani continue to develop their renewed friendship with another magical coming together. Many years after they used to make music together, they are now older, wiser, and frankly, better at what they do. And so it is here with Dario continuing to explore his unique electronics, all inspired by the Sicilian breeze. 
Dario is very involved with Catania's underground music scene: he has soaked it up and helped to shape it for many years and always with a warm Mediterranean current gently flowing through his work. His last EP, Calamari Fritti in late 2018, was a real gem, and this new one follows up in style. 
Opener “Prime Luci” is for early evening drinks on a coastal terrace as the water glistens and sun turns red, while “Domenica” is for early evening swaying, with deep disco drums and Casio chords enriching your soul. “Danoy” is a cosmic trip with melodic droplets and shimmering lead synths that melts you over and over again, and “Nonna” is an ambient excursion with a suggestion of menace in the creeping bass synths that keep you on edge. Closer "Monti Rossi Sunday Vibes" ends with slow and lumpy drums awash with wispy pads and cosmic suggestions. 
You might not have been to Sicily before, but after listening to this EP you sure will feel like you have.
