On his debut release, the Franco-Cameroonian producer teams up with newly-christened Paris imprint, Deardogs, on four genre-defying tracks which combine popular reference, epic synth melodies and sharp percussion. 

The fire cooked his eyes as they faced them, nude. He no longer experienced the flames with sight alone, but felt the heat overwhelm his body so that he himself became one amongst them. He lost perception of his own relation to space and resigned to a condition of placelessness. Here, he felt most at home and would remain until the world's cold waves swept him back to shore.

Through his DJ sets, membership of Parisian collective Bruits de la Passion and residency on LYL radio, Zulu explores the myriad forms of rap music from across the globe, skilfully interweaving tracks with electronic instrumentals to deftly confuse generic boundaries. With this in mind, some of the more eagle-eared listeners will recognise the referential significance of Zulu's debut release. The title track of 'Smart and Loyal' EP, released as a single last week, is a track which basks in the strange and incongruous, featuring the unmistakable tag of DJ Khaled which continuously leaps to the surface before suffocating beneath razor-sharp breaks and doomy synths.
This is where Zulu thrives: in the intersection between playfulness, pastiche and sincerity, letting you get comfortable before scolding you for laughing.

Our pick 'Mentally I'm Here' - a nominal (and no doubt ironic) reference to internet culture - further embodies this trope, as well as Zulu's mastery of the switch-up. This track is tumultuous, steadily building tension which suddenly dffuses you wonder why you were afraid. Watch out for Zulu, we think he might be on to something...

Oramics Premiere is our new series on SoundCloud and YouTube that will showcase fresh tracks and videos from female, non-binary and queer producers. We want to use our platform to celebrate emerging talents and independent labels that support them.

Nino Davadze is an experimental musician and multimedia artist from Tbilisi, Georgia. She draws inspiration from classical music training and choral singing in an Orthodox church in the Georgian countryside. Nino’s formative years in She eld, UK, had sparked the idea of combining two parallel universes into her compositions - avant-garde electronic sound and storytelling using the spoken word and field recordings. Nino’s recent live performances brought her to share the stage with the likes of Mark Fell, Sote and Rian Treanor, as well as collaborations with Mutant Radio, New Drama Festival, and CES Records, the platforms that are at the forefront of Georgian contemporary art.

The symbiosis of knife-edged experimental electronics, synthesised vocals and field recordings by Tbilisi-based composer and multidisciplinary artist Nino Davadze. She debuts on the London art platform inklingroom with ‘Geometry of Soviet Women’ - two tracks that shuttle between the deconstructed club and ambient aim to encapsulate contemporary Georgian society's resilience and vulnerability from the eco-feminist perspective.

Hailing from Tbilisi, the experimental artist Nino Davadze uses her heavily distorted sound pallet, minimalist ambient soundscapes and profound lyrics as a language to express how her motherland is adapting to important changes in the new era.
The rawness of field recordings with heavily distorted drums, dark industrial bass, and sinister vocals ties all the abstract nostalgic reflections happening in urban spaces in the Georgian capital Tbilisi. Davadze tries to capture the intricate utopian vision and a fragile voice of anger, a desperate message, and a letter from the beloved city with a tangible memory of its people. Through the harsh, abrasive, metallic tones, Nino aims to create a sense of urgency; it’s the language she uses to manifest resistance.

After diversifying with the release of a couple of tapes over the last few years, BFDM’s little sis — Homemade Soundsystem — returns to what it knows what to do best: a two-track bass-heavy dancehall 7 inch. This one is courtesy of Parisian producer Krikor, who was already behind the outfit’s first release back in 2019. The well named Captivation Riddim starts off as a slow-but-rough compelling tune with haunting and trippy vocal samples creating an adequately driving mood. On the flip, Liberation Riddim is a percussive chopped-up party starter, ideal for changing gears with multiple BPM shifts and breaks throughout the track.

Under his Xr/spool: moniker Michelangelo Perrone enjoys the exploration of unknown territories in which forces of the universe interact with time and space in order to distort reality. 
The notion of constrast is essential to capture the meaning of "Void Lands", a distant world  in which the beauty of nature is closely linked to its brutality and both of those merge in a pleasant agitation. 
This chimera is translated into music thanks to wild but mastered interactions through which powerful polyrithmia stands against hypnotic samples, mostly issued from the artist's personnal field recordings. 
For his first album, Xr/spool: paints a dark and mysterious canvas that invites us to pay more attention to the smallest details that may help us to grasp the complexity of this new world we're in.
