Lisbon-based label Karakter is back for its 18th release, the 3rd of the year, and this time featuring a mighty collaboration between two rising Mexican artists: Javier Martínez (SXDNS104) and Fernando Velázquez, mostly known as Undefined Pattern (SXDNS197). "Lane Reduction" was born when the two young producers decided to create their own vision of what a dance peak night track should be. Inspired by long road trips, they delivered two cosmic, dark anthems for the dance floor (one day, we shall return!), both filled with rugged basslines, cosmic synths, and dystopian percussions. The outstanding remix duty was provided with love by none other than Cornelius Doctor and Motel 77 (SXDNS094).

One of the masterminds behind the vital French label HARD FIST, Cornelius Doctor needs no further introduction. Owner of a very peculiar sonority, he spared no efforts to deliver an insightful interpretation of “Delta Junction”. As usual, Cornelius brought some weirdness and inventiveness to the party, adding throbbing vocal layers and intense percussive elements that entirely changed the mood of the solid original. Sometimes that’s the job of the remixer, isn’t it?

PREMIERE196 // Javier Martinez & Undefined Pattern - Delta Junction (Cornelius Doctor Remix)

During the first lockdown in Tel Aviv, Guy Shaked – also known as Takiru – decided to take his music to other musical dimensions and explore his production abilities in different genres and tempos. The result is “Voices of July”, a colourful EP, featuring three originals and three remixes, in which every tune has its special story and mood. 

Takiru is well known for his previous releases that received support from acclaimed artists such as Moscoman, Jenia Tarsol, Chaim, and many more, and now he is proud to present his debut release on the respected Lisbon-based label Karakter. The remixes were made with love by Rina & Benji, A-Tweed (SXDNS222/FREEDL029) and Tempura The Purple Boy. 

Premiered here, A-Tweed’s version of the most romantic track of the release. In his interpretation of “Je Taime”, the Italian producer brought the love theme to his world, soaking the original into his characteristic weirdness: Distinctive percussive elements and a throbbing bassline yield the danceability, while the ethereal vocals deliver an eerie and erotic atmosphere.

Teaming up with long-time collaborator Monika Heidemann for two of the tracks, ‘I Want The Night’ and ‘Connected’ pump soulfully and emotionally just as much as they do cosmically as Monika purrs and drawls her vocals in perfect harmony with Juan’s driven-but-forever-unhurried beats.

Elsewhere ‘Wipeout’ is a one-way ticket to peaktime while remixes from Correspondant familiar Terr and recently rebooted cult NYC act Dorothy’s Fortress both make MacLean gleam in two very different ways. The night is ours…

The aim of the series is to create a go-to collection for those looking for original up-and-coming talent from around the globe. And as with

Freakazzé II is a DJ and production duo from Hamburg that roams between slow rave and dark disco, wavy 80s synths and punk drums. Their brilliant 'Blaupause' is a heavy plodder with frazzled synths searching the face of the soot-black groove.

French minimalist electro and cold new wave sounds define the music of Nomenklatür. They have so far released their ravey take on techno on Bass Agenda and Beachcoma and here excel with 'Keeping Distance.' It pairs ice-cold drums and hits with meandering guitar leads that bring a sense of real-world melancholy next to the cosmic chords.

Mexico's Oscar Avendaño aka Levantine plays bass and keys inspired by the Madchester era. He is a storytelling artist with credits on labels like About Disco Records, Hype Muzik and many more. His 'Ultradisco' is a chunky post-punk take on disco with plenty of raw attitude, hypnotic chord vamps and jangling melodic fragments.

Leo Af Ekenstam is a newly emerging alias from a Swedish artist who has been making music for years. With this project, he brings a dark disco sound exemplified by 'Stanford Torus.' It is a spacious and cinematic cut with pulsing bass and slapping hits that jerk you into action as the ambient pads up top bring a pensive mood.

Vladislav is the man behind Orchid, a producer with a penchant for the 80s and 90s era of electronica. Now based in Moscow, he has released on U’re Guay Records and Esthetique already this year. 'Erotica' is a steamy
post-disco track with a libidinous female vocal and retro-future chords that bring a real atmosphere to the club.

Paris-based Zaratustra started out making techno but has moved into more melodic sounds with productions coming on Planet Ibiza and Kosa Records soon. House, techno and EBM inform his sounds. 'Thoth' is an
adventurous and epic track that builds slowly on a muted acid line before the surging deep house drums voyage off into the stars.

Altered States Vol.5 is another diverse and essential collection of fresh club sounds from hot emerging talents.

PREMIERE #977 | Teniente Castillo - Recalibration [Roam] 2020

Eliezer has more than 20 years of experience behind the decks, in the studio, and as an authority in nightlife in Israel. As an active producer, he’s released on contemporary labels such as Days of Being Wild, Night Noise, Unterman, and Prins Thomas’ imprint Internasjonal under the alias Midnight Dicers and he also runs his own New Day Every Day imprint. Here he works with Isadora, a musician, songwriter and poet known as the lead singer of her eponymously entitled band. The tracks were made in the studio that was inside Eliezer’s club, and he says, “It’s been a long journey as two of them started as a sketch back in 2009 but together with Isadora they got the perfect touch and finish.” Arresting opener ‘Bright Light’ is a dazzling disco cut with shimmering chords and punchy kicks that make you march as Isadora adds fluid, soulful vocals. The excellent ‘Gold E Bella’ started as “a bizarre bass and atmosphere mix, and with the speech from Isadora it became a dance floor bomb.” It’s tense, full of twists and turns and dark disco energy. The heavier ‘Get Down’ has a real sense of menacing energy, with laser like synths, deadpan vocals and punk spirit. Last of all, Dan Wainwright’s X-Rated Remix of ‘Bright Light’ brings howling chords and jittery, dubbed out drums that reverberate with late night kinetics. Once again here Night Noise platform exciting talents with brilliantly inventive sounds.
