Alexander Church kicks off 2023 with a return to his thought-provoking Configurations of Self label, again calling upon vocalist Rebekah K to add an extra dimension.

This label has become a superb showcase of Church's sounds, whether solo or with frequent collaborator James Welsh. They are complex and challenging in the way they fuse all manner of electronic genres, but never fail to make an emotional connection. He has been exploring these worlds since the 90s under a range of aliases and always conveys deep thought in what he does from lush melodies to brutalist techno. Rebekah K has appeared in Church productions in the past, most recently with Configurations 17, and once again she adds some vital ingredients to these new cuts.

Exquisite eight-minute opener 'To Be Real' is a widescreen track with rich synths and meaningful chords over a deep rolling beat. The clean, soulful vocals from Rebekah K are given room to breathe and really resonate in this escapist track. 'All Gone' is trip-hop through a cosmic electronic lens, with lurching beats and glistening star-like synths accompanying the aching and angelic vocals of Rebekah K. It's another moving and absorbingly atmospheric piece. Closer 'Need You' rolls on deep drums that eventually bristle with metallic percussion and more astral synth work. As the groove drives on, Rebekah K's voice shivers in the airwaves above to bring that all-important human touch. All tracks also come as subtly paired back and dynamic dubs.

Beautiful, isn’t it? Now let’s focus on the music, shall we? Martin Kuška is the mastermind behind the project Goodbye Mirage. His brand-new release is coming hot on Electric Shapes: The "Turning Point Observer" EP is a ten-track endeavour divided into five well-constructed originals and five essential remixes made with love by Tassilo Vanhöfen, Feel Fly, Etbonz, Herzel, and Tadan. A true journey through which “you can constantly search for something new – the endless faith or doubt, the loneliness of days or the shining energy of social moments yet to come, body to body”.

Premiered here, “Meaning Of The Triptych”, the opening track of the EP, is an intricate lucid-dream-infused cut in which Breakbeat and Leftfield converge and give birth to a Brian-Eno-meets-Underworld piece – that’s how good it is!

Italian imprint Opilec Music and It’s founder I-Robots presents a new release this September, entitled ‘Dimah’ and coming
courtesy of Hong Kong’s Ocean Lam and Ukrainian artist Andrey Sirotkin.
Ocean Lam has become a figurehead for the Hong Kong underground over the past decade as well as further afield throughout
Asia and Europe, DJing at notable festivals and clubs like Sonar Hong Kong, Wilde Möhre and Club Der Visionaere, this latest release adds to Ocean’s growing catalogue which has seen her release on Detroit’s Moteur Ville Musique and Germany’s Biotop.
Here, Ocean joins forces with Kyiv’s Andrey Sirotkin, founder of Vyrii Records, global DJ since 2004 and a regular at many of the Ukrainian capital’s leading nightclubs. The package is presented on Opilec Music by its leading man, I-Robots who is a friend of Ocean and has played her parties in Hong Kong several times and heard the initial demo when Ocean was in Turin in April of 2023, soon after this release was born…
Leading is the ‘I-Robots Edit’ of ‘Dimah’, a subtly unfurling journey through a gritty bass line, textural atmospherics, dubbed
out stab sequences and crunchy drums. The ‘I-Robots Extended Reconstruction’ follows and takes thing down a more loop-led
route via circling bass flutters, crisp 4/4 drums, dub reggae chants and ever unfolding, fluctuating dub delays throughout, a
‘Dub Reconstruction’ follows this, as the name would suggest laying focus solely on the raw groove.
Following next is the ‘Reconstruction Take 1’, a more tension led interpretation fuelled by howling textural synths, robust
upfront drums and the compositions driving bass line before ‘Reconstruction Take 2’ eases in an amalgamation of new
resonant chords and dubbed out effects across its nine-minute duration. A ‘Dub Reconstruction’ version then rounds out the
release.

Midnight Savari returns with his third release on Jakarta's Akamady Records, run by KOMODO @komodo-jkt. The EP starts off with Strange Coincidences, a deep space arpeggiated disco tune, a nod to disco heads out there. Best served eyes-closed, heart-open, and feet ready to dance your troubles away. Psychic Tower, an alchemical endeavor to convert symbols and lines from the ancient "I Ching" into a corresponding musical theme. The track introduces the transcendental Sundanese "karinding" jaw-harp intermingled with a classic acid line. Lastly, Zoo Keeper is a 105-bpm swung oldschool hip-hop beat with trippy breaks, rolling basslines, imaginary zoo animals, more karinding, and topped with some tripped-out vocals from your local zoo guide.

A deep techno/analogue house release that features a remix by Perseus Traxx,  the original music is from Benjamin Philippe Zulauf who fuses analogue sounds with immersive atmosphere in the style of others such as Fred P and Basic Soul Unit.
Out on the 29th of September, the release is forthcoming via Benjamin Philippe Zulauf’s own record Hummingbird by BPZ, but he has also released music on other imprints including Claap Rec, Vekton Black and Fourier Transform.
Perseus Traxx is a well-known producer known for his use of hardware equipment and releases on respected vinyl labels such as labels such as Boe Recordings, Horn Wax, M>O>S Recordings, I Love Acid, Chiwax, and more.

From the Baudelairean-decadentist motif of Las Flores Del Mal to the darker calm of a Lullaby, which does not want to let us sleep, this EP is tense between death and resurrection. Fuelled by the pulsating beats of the global groove and house scene, their sets are electrifying, promising a kaleidoscope of danceable rhythms.

In addition to their first release, which will be out soon in digital format, they have often had the chance to prove their skills alongside other big DJs at events throughout the Rhine-Main area. On top, they recently became part of the Tanz In Frankfurt booking agency.
