Jack Lester, based in San Diego, CA has spent his life living up and down the coast of California. His origins as a producer and DJ begin in the Los Angeles area, where he became involved in a scene of local grass-roots festivals and parties. Coming from an eclectic background of rock, metal and hip-hop influences, Jack’s productions have since evolved into a sound that incorporates elements of acid house, breaks, electro and techno. Putting a larger focus on energy, rhythm and sound selection than fitting into one particular genre, his productions and DJ sets display a range of musicality while staying true to his unique sound- with a common theme of acid throughout.

Although that statement is more an alliteration than a rhyme, it has not deterred us at Play Pal from gathering together talent from across the globe for a sixth compilation showcasing an array of producers and musicians who like to lurk in the darker recesses of the musical spectrum.

The roster for this new compilation includes talented artists and friends such as Arvin Fajar, Andreas Rund, Vongold, Alberto Melloni, M Love, Leo af Ekenstam, and Manner Of Speaking.

Following on from the success of Jorkes's Sweet Dream EP on the influential Live At Robert Johnson label, a wealth of innovative electronic talents all serve up their own remixes of it including Paris Böhm, Alinka, ROTCIV, Hard Ton, and more.

German-born but Austria-based Jorkes runs the Freeride Millenium label with her muse, lover, and partner Daniel Rajcsanyi aka. Paris Böhm. Her provocative work centralizes gender, queer and egalitarian attitudes, and her Sweet Dreams EP showed the many different sides of her sound.

It is Radio8000 resident ParisBöhm who offers the first remix of 'CDEvaLo'. It's slow and sensuous, with intimate spoken word vocals and lithe synths while the bubbling melodies add color. Next up is Ukraine-born but Berlin-based Alinka, whose hard-hitting sounds have come on the likes of Rekids and Crosstown. Her version of 'Sweet Dream' is uplifting and glossy with busy arps rising up over prickly drums. Acid gurgles add extra texture to this classy floor filler. Freeride Millenium associates Snecker aka Berghain resident DJ nd_baumecker and musician, singer, songwriter, producer, performer, and DJ Snax tackle the same track. In their hands, it becomes a steamy house cut with floating synth motifs and crisp claps over a tantalizing beat that never stops building.

ROTCIV is another Freeride Millenium artist who has a cultured and colorful sound built on alternating arpeggios, automated synth melodies, and weird vocals. His remix of 'You Will Be Mine' is a zoned-out vocal disco chugger with a rugged bassline. The cosmic rays up top and silky arps help the whole track take off. Italian duo and accomplished disco queens Hard Ton are all about hi-nrg beats and screaming acid bass whenever they release on Freeride Millenium or the likes of Toy Tonics. They remix 'You Will Be Mine' in typically high-impact fashion as crashing hits and drums pump the party underneath astral synths and libidinous vocals. Experimental Berlin art trio New Hook then step up to rework 'Robot Lover' into something beautifully atmospheric and melancholic with thoughtful chords over nu-disco grooves. This package is completed with a final fantastic Форм Remix of 'CDEvaLo' that adds yet another perspective.

All bases are covered in head-turning fashion on this vital remix EP.

We’re delighted to welcome italian producer Alberto Melloni on Ulla Records ! With his EP “Scaleno”, he displays the wide array of his production game, going from new beat to italo and synthwave, through 3 original tracks, supported by two remixes from Tech Support and Plexi Glass.

The eponymous opening track, “Scaleno”, sounds like an ode to the new beat era, with its punching drum beat, wild sound effects and slamming stabs. Then comes “Blonde”, entwining synths and pads, layed over an heavy rhythm section, the soundtrack to your night spree through the city. Finally, we’re having an uplifting ending with “False Piste”, an explosion of vibrant melodies, navigating somewhere between italo and synthwave.

We also wanted some ace remixers on board, so we asked London based Tech Support to put his magic hands on “Blonde”. He delivered an intense, heavy, club-ready remix, with its hypnotic groove and dreamy layers of synths. Then we have newcomers Plexi Glass, hailing from Rennes, who decided to pace it up on “False Piste”, unleashing frantics drums and galloping basslines, making for a supercharged remix.

‘Motion’ is the new EP release on PAN’s sublabel CODES from Belgian producer SKY H1.

Having previously collaborated with producers and collectives such as Bala Club and Creamcake, Brussels-based SKY H1 has since performed at the likes of multi-media 3HD Festival and Amsterdam’s Sonic Acts to high acclaim for her distinctly forward-thinking sound.

Drawing from a background of widely-varying musical tastes from Ambient to Grime, her own work is an amalgamation of emotive compositions of orchestral Elysian synths, often displaced with sparse percussive elements.

The new record, ‘Motion’ is a highly personal endeavour, constructed from the results of a turbulent time - where she describes it as ‘a flash of her emotional state over the last few months’. “It signi-fies leaving behind a period in my life and stepping into something new.” She explains.

Moving through bleak soundscapes layering vaporous choral synths, ethereal vocals and glassy, lucid tones crafted in complex structures, the record bears moments of melancholy as well as joy on tracks like ‘Tell Me’ and ‘I Think I Am’. “It's about going through the different stages of grief and accepting the positive effects the loss of someone can have on you.” She says. “It's about experiencing an intensely emotional time with a lot of ups and downs, and I think this is transparent in the way the tracks are ordered.”.

Imaski is the self-titled debut of a new project from Peter Kirn - flirtatious, techno-tinged hyperreal pop. Here, Kirn - known as the technologist behind CDM (createdigitalmusic.com) and co-creator of the MeeBlip synth - reveals his creative side, honed in live club sets in Berlin and beyond.

Remixers Jamaica Suk (L.A.G., Face to Face) and Moderna (Ghostly International) contribute dancefloor-friendly takes on “Sisters” and “Hyperloop,” respectively. Jamaica Suk produces a heavy, hypnotic take on “Sisters.” 

LA based rising techno talent Moderna applies her signature amorous touches while teasing the darker side of sounds and vocals on her massive “Hyperloop” remix.

Crossing media, Imaski is also an audiovisual project, including two original music videos by Wroclaw-based photo artist and filmmaker AnnaMaria Olech. With bright, saturated colors and a sensitive, intimate relationship with her models, AnnaMaria provides fanciful portraits of “Don’t think of me” and “Sisters.”
