For the second release in our Re-Issue Series we’ve teamed up with London duo Euphonic for a cherry picked deep dive into their back catalogue exploring some of their finest works, fusing Jungle, Breaks, and Down Tempo with unique programming, bass lines and traditional jazz/blues instrumentation.

“Low Orbit Archives” features a number of artists whom they have collaborated with since the project's inception back in 1997, including dr. Israel, Soothsayer, Kirsty Rock and Neech. Euphonic is led by producer Rob Henry and former Graffiti artist turned DJ, Nick Trimm.

The “Low Orbit Archives” compilation continues, following Part 1 of the projects recently released 10" vinyl "Jah Science", with an additional 8 tracks spread across the 12” and digital exclusives. The release aims to offer a wide but cohesive spectrum of genres and styles for audio lovers and record collectors. All tracks have been unearthed from CD, Vinyl and DAT, and newly remastered.

Known for crafting infectious rhythms infused with an otherworldly strangeness, UK-based producer CAIN makes his debut on Darker Than Wax with Sarissa - a seven-tracker driven by his signature percussive style. 

Written in his native highlands of Scotland and heavily influenced by the mountainous landscapes, Sarissa seeks to fuse together organic and synthetic sounds in unusual ways. True to his ethos of joining the dots between folk music from cultures around the world, the melodies and rhythms explored throughout are tied together by their timeless, ethereal quality. Interlocking rhythms lead the way as the skeleton in this music with cinematic harmonies woven in and out, leading the listener through dark valleys and emotional peaks. 

Each tune tells its own story and has a distinct feel from the next – from the jilting rhythms and hazy rave feel of ‘Sarissa’, the crawling basslines of ‘Gecko’, and the ethereal lightness of ‘Marwa’ to the harmonic weight of Kuro. The seven cuts making up Sarissa are equally effective as dancefloor weapons, or as accompaniments on long foggy walks.

The room was cold and damp, only a few slivers of sun lit the space through the thick barred windows. He studied the mould on the ceiling, wondering how long it had been left to rot away. Like the rest of the room it was unkempt and ignored; a place intended to induce suffering. The circumstances that led him here were still unclear; just like that he'd been plucked from his life and plunged into darkness, with no answers to his never-ending circle of questions. What had he done to deserve this? Was it a case of mistaken identity? Would these four walls be the only thing he'd ever see again? Silence... All he could do was wait.

Two years on from his debut release for Milan's Kaleido imprint, Berlin-based Egyptian producer and vocalist tips his hat to the traditional sounds of his homeland with a six-track EP for Awkwardly Social. Afriki may draw from Arabian melodies and sounds but Azemad approaches these through a contemporary lens, blending them with crisp breaks, frenetic drum workouts, dub-wise atmospheres and his moody verses. You can hear a heap of different influences across the LP, from breakbeat, DnB and jungle to electro, dub and IDM, which help fashion a release that truly sounds like no other.

In this place respite was a privilege, it never came for free or without some last minute condition attached to it. From dusk till dawn you were expected to work yourself to the bone; and when you weren't physically doing so, you couldn't help but think about it. How much of your daily thoughts it consumed; how little you found time to delight in your interests and hobbies - it had simply become the be-all and end-all. Could you steer your thoughts onto an unrelated subject? Could there be space for your own enjoyment? Somebody had to show us where we could find the "switch off" button...

Reel Long Overdub have launched a new compilation series, Reel Small World, to celebrate those wonderful connections you make with other like-minded music lovers around the world. With the aim of profiling burgeoning scenes and artists in countries across the globe, for the first release they've teamed up with New Delhi-based producer Monophonik, who has released on the label several times before, to shine a light on the scene in his home of India. Featuring ten producers including GoodMostlyBad, FILM and Rafiki, the release traces the sounds setting the electronic underground scene alight, from trance, techno and jungle to minimal and breaks. All money raised from the release will be donated to Salaam Baalak Trust who support children living on the streets.

It were as if he were swimming in some sort of thick soup, the air was exhaustive to breathe and engulfed the senses in a dense weighty fog. It was like moving through heavy cream, weighed down by the very thing which kept him afloat.

He wondered how obvious it was to those all around him, did they notice as he weaved slowly between passers by as if in some sort of dream like haze. Did they notice as he tiptoed between the glow of flickering streetlights as the sounds and sirens of the city all around him swallowed it all up like some sort of pointed shark.

Who knew where his mind was? For he did not...

Kulture Galerie kickstart a new venture with the first release on the new label coming on strong and featuring a heavyweight cast of producers. Abdul Raeva, Gene Tellem and Nesa Azadikhah all feature on the first record on the imprint which is run by Metropolitan Soul Museum.

However, it is the Alien D track which we showcase today, music from a producer who we reckon is one to watch at the moment...
